Today I met a man who introduced himself as "the Great." I found it so charming, choosing a sobriquet to self-appellate, so I thought it must become the new fashion. We should all choose an adjective with which to adorn ourselves, like our cloaks or our hats, and no one should be seen without one. I'm myself partial to the Brilliant, or maybe even the Vivacious, but I am open to persuasion on the specifics.

What a delight it was to return to the city from my latest trip to Lenosia and be greeted by a stack of letters and the promise of many intriguing conversations to be had upon the horizon.
If only my wardrobe showed an equal amount of promise. It has become outdated and stale in my absence. No doubt finding a new clothier will be one of the first items on my to-do list.
Along with a skilled perfumer. These bottles lining my shelves are all nearly empty and that will never do.

Well, I am returned from my gallivant and not a moment too soon, I think. (Perhaps a moment too late, alas! But we shall have more of that lament anon, perhaps in a black journal.)
Can it really have been a year?! I cannot believe it. How astonishing. The places I went and things I saw and new friends I made and wonderful experiences ... well, these are tales that are best held close in memory and in a less public forum than this journal... but, oh, it was wonderful. I hadn't meant to be away a year, but when one remains open to the beauty and wonder and wickedness of the world, one thing just seems to happen after another, and then another, and then...
And then: a year.
Well, yesterday evening, I decided to pay a visit to dear Count Artorius, and wore the most wonderfully impractical outfit in the most abominable weather. I was quite a vision of loveliness, clad in seasilk, graced with frost.
I made the acquaintance of Lady Desma, who was a perfectly lovely host, and I had the opportunity to see Lord Cadern who just by happenstance was coming to visit (or was it...?), who I am pleased to see remains one of the most charming carousers I have the pleasure of being acquainted with.
(It is a gift to have friends who meet your measure in such matters, I find. I do not hold with those whose strict interpretation of the Faith would see such as I condemned to the Abyss for the way I dance between raindrops. I was made as I am to experience life as I do, and if it were not perfectly within their plan, pleasure would not be so lovely - but I may be wrong, it is just possible and if so, why, what a pleasure it would be to have such fine friends to keep company with in the realm of eternal torments.)
Evidently, Count Artorius was not at home at the time, which was something of a shame, but a small matter. I imagine our paths shall cross again sometime soon, if only by happenstance. It cannot be avoided, one supposes, can it?

I miss you terribly. The longer that you are gone, the feeling is supposed to fade, and yet I can only think to myself of what might have been, had anything worked out differently. I see you in so much of my wardrobe, that for sweet moments it feels as if you have not left at all, yet there are no more sweet letters, nothing new, only the reminders of something that was, and the dangling thread of what never will be. I hope that our next turn at life, we are more fortunate.

I do not have guards. I had some at the start of my time in Arx, and quickly found them to be unnecessary, no matter where I go. All this talk of people punching nobles has not changed my mind on that either. I suppose when one is simply a lovable person, guilty of nothing, there is no need to fear attack.

Regarding a proper and elegant breakfast, I have a different opinion, and I am, after all, a master of good taste.
You could, of course, subscribe to a complex system of rules that guide the behaviors of those of any station above 'broke and homeless', but I believe that a simpler method may be used. The breakfast that is the very best of all breakfasts is the one that your partner from the previous night prepares for you(or orders prepared) before you have managed to flop an elegant hand out of bed.
