Relationship Note on Azova

So THAT'S where I know her from!

Not exactly what I was expecting but at least she's not someone I slept with and forgot about.

Sometimes I really hate these flashbacks, they are so weird and I could really do without the adrenaline rush. First I'm just watching Azova and Lord Porter, uhh ... sparring, I guess? And then I'm back there, Gyre coming at me. That hit to her knee felt like it was mine ... still don't know how that bastard got past my guard but at least the Mercies were able to get me back into fighting shape.

Ah well, at least I didn't miss too much of the conversation after that bout. I don't think anyone noticed me woolgathering for those few moments.

Relationship Note on Willow

When we speak I am reminded of the great differences between your leadership style and my cousins, not Lydia, but Nadia. It was a different world then and things have changed so much during that time.

In this changing landscape I am well pleased that you are still with us to keep us always moving forwards and looking out for us.

Perception, it is a powerful thing. How we believe something to be is how it -is- in our view until our perceptions change. That perception is based not only on what we know but it is based on how we feel. What we have heard. What tidbits we have managed to gather. Even the best of us cannot say we fully understand ourselves so how can we think we know anyone else. Truly?

Perception is a combination of what we see, what we feel, what we hope, and what we desire. More often than not our perception of a thing is very far from the truth of a thing. This is especially for people.

I had hoped that it was only heightened emotions that would make such a foul and ugly attempt be made. That with time calmer thoughts would prevail. Now I see I hoped for naught.

Pity.

Back less than a month and already someone tries to tear into me behind my back.

Relationship Note on Willow

Cousin Willow's cat is quite the huntress, unfortunately I don't think the tavern keeper at The Spirits would appreciate it if said cat at a live rabbit in the middle of the bar.

The defense of Stormwall went as well as expected. All things considered.

Brogan and I have spent a great deal of time together since I've come back to Arx. I appreciate his company immensely in these trying times. Its hard to believe that when I grew up, he was already a man. We are fast friends.

My uncle, drinking partner, confidante and drinking partner. (That needs to be said twice) I am glad to have you at my elbow, as steady as the oak tree in time. I hope you don't choke on mud when you lose.

As one of the men watching, I can confirm she really should have stretched more, she ended up flat on her back. I did not partake, I will reiterate.

Well, we fucking did it. We managed to slow down a column of twenty thousand Shavs, with only two hundred-and-some losses of our own. My hat does off to those who assisted us in this insane adventure.

Cristoph- Your planning was the most excellent I have ever seen, no offense to my friend and minister Calypso. Every strategy countered, every ploy exploited. We bled those fuckers nearly dry, and it's thanks to you.

Aislin- Dearest cousin and most wonderful scout, your knowledge of the land and the points we could use was invaluable. You allowed us to set the best of traps and kill thousands of these bastards for so few losses of our own.

Tivka - I will admit, I saw little of you in person, but you were almost as instrumental as Aislin in helping our forces keep clear of the enemy and waylay them at every turn, and for that, you have my thanks and the gratitude of my house.

Niamh - Your blade ended many, many shav lives, and that is the most I could ask of most anyone that comes with my on such adventures. May your sword stay sharp, for there are many more to slay before it is all done.

Jael- without your supplies, we would have faltered and floundered and not achieved a tenth of what we managed to do. the logistics officer, the unsung hero of any campaign (or so my brother likes to tell me constantly).

Isidora - Healers are the backbone of recovery from any campaign, and many of my men and Duke Cristoph's are alive now who wouldn't be, thanks to you and yours.

Demura - I don't know what the shit you DID to those shavs in the other column, but I saw the smoke from where I was standing, so you did an excellent job. Bravo.

Brand is approaching in the third column, I think. That's where our men were lost, most of them, trying to assault it. I don't know, I didn't get to set eyes on him, and probably should be very thankful I did not. I also saw little glimpses of a giant figure in the midst of the column, but was assuming my eyes were playing tricks on me until I got the River attack report from Calypso. Well, that's gonna be a bitch and a half to deal with, but as they proved over there, we can and we /will/ deal with it.

To my men? Thank you. For everything. I will carve your names into the Wall myself.

I accept, after hearing the Dominus, the respected authority in Arx on Pantheon matters and head of the Faith, speak about the vision, that it was one of hers.

I spoke about the need to kill the Silence. Have, more than once. About how they can be killed. I will not apologize for that, or for perhaps assuming that a sane goddess would not make every man, woman, and child in the city lose their minds with fear just a few dears before the battle for our lives.

However, as I said, I do acknowledge that it was a goddesse's vision and thus not a trick in itself. Just poor timing.

I woke up to a giant raven staring at my face the other day. The fact it was a mask didn't help really, as my sleep-addled brain tried to break it and flop out of bed all at once. Sure she got a kick out of it.

You're lucky you took my sword out of reach, woman, I swear.

To those suffering from the Dream of the Bringers:

I have met the Bringers on the Field of battle.

They are not Gods.

They are not immortal.

They can be fought.

They can be killed, even by regular steel.

They are might and strong

But they will die, all the same.

This is nothing but a trick, and can and MUST treat it as such.

Relationship Note on Cirroch

I still say that there was no way we could have known that copper mine was almost exhausted, and I'm sticking to that.

What the future might have been, had you married into the family back then. But I am eager to make the man's acquaintance now, and glad to see the North turning out another man of quality. We need such men now, more than ever.
