My first time in shipboard battle was rather eye opening.
War is never neat, nor fair. Yet to see mercenaries attack what was obviously a ship of white-robed Mercies of Lagoma was an affront to Lagoma and Gloria. While reparations were made, it still remains troubling to think that such would even occur.

These past days I have been spending with the Count Blanchard in his lands have been quite edifying. Though Highhill is small at the moment, it is best to be prepared to manage the needs of baronies as well as one own's seat before the troubles begin to come.

I apologize to any who may have been looking for me in recent times. After the expedition to High Hill, I chose to remain for an extended time, seeing to the health of the people there after their deeply traumatic experience. While I expect to be quite busy with matterns concerning High Hill in the future, I am reasonably certain I can attend to my other duties in Arx as well.

I am pleased to note that my experimentations with binding a bruised muscle to prevent incidental motion and thus speed the healing process seem to have borne fruit. The gathering of the improper humors has already begun to disperse.
I cannot say the same for the remedy for seasickness I took before leaving on the voyage. I continue to prefer the land whenever possible.

It is good to see a work complete at last. When I lay my hands upon the walls of the Rose of Solace, I think that, should all things proceed as they should, it will stand for long after I die. It will stand for long after my name is forgotten. Gods willing, it will stand so long until its own name is forgotten.
Further, it puts me in a mind to rebuild. Thinking about it and then Highhill reminds me that we are all always walking along the edge. I will take the things I have learned here with me as I go to reclaim that land, and prepare it so the tragedy of the Steelharts cannot happen again.

On waking up this day, I felt more myself than I have in months. There is work at my hands and duty to fill, once again, at last. While I am not yet fully recovered, I am now moving properly forward. I am eager.

A brief pause from tending to the garden again after a... tumultuous night. What I had intended to be a welcome for an honored and trusted vassal Count proved instead to be a night of confrontation (though knowing the man, it may have been more relaxing than if it were a simple quiet evening). Some might assume I am bothered by the incident.
To tell the truth, I am not. I am heartened, instead. Heartened whenever I am reminded of the capacity for a citizen of Arx to hold a righteous red rage against the injustices in this world that lurk in the darkness of night and the shadows of stately manors and cramped alleyways both. You may read this and believe I am being patronizing.
I assure you that I am not.
Such conversations remind me of the importance of my duties as Knight and Physician both. I feel firmer than I have in quite some time, and I hope you too may find your way to stability. I do not know you and you do not know me, but permit me to give this advice: Look to those who are around you and with you, whether it is doubt or frustration that you feel. I cannot know the Question that you chase. We exist in worlds out of step with one another. But there is always, always value in asking the Question aside from the content of the Answer, even if it is a ripple in a pond.
I do hope that we meet again in a more suitable time.

I've had a new weapon commissioned from Dame Alexis as something of a symbol of my new dedication to my family and my duties, a fine rubicund mace of admirable heft. In a moment of rare humor, I have christened it 'Bonesetter'. I wonder if the remainder of the Physicians Guild will approve of my levity.

In my attempts to reconnect with life, I have taken charge of a young sleuth hound, two years of age, having overheard a groundskeeper lament that he no longer had the energy to keep up with her.
Given the laconic nature of the creature, I am concerned about our man, but I digress.
Her name is Louiselle, she seems to prefer chicken over beef, and has a habit of lying over my feet as I sit that I confess is somehow heartening. She has taken the transfer of ownership well.
