The battle at the Bay of Pieros was not the first time I had commanded ships to engage the Eurusi. The fight was fierce and bloody, but it seemed less desperate than the Battle at Sungreet, where I had a ship literally sunk beneath my feet and had to step onto the deck of another. I wish to praise the skill and heart of everyone who fought at Pieros, particularly those in the Northern fleet. I was impressed with how well everyone, across all the ships, worked together with one purpose: to protect Arvum. I witnessed many strange things that I cannot quite account for by calling them wild weather or unusual sea creatures. I can only say I am grateful that Arvum has many allies and its citizens have many talents.

Many thanks to the Carnifex, Sir Preston, for holding the Thanksgiving ceremony where I was knighted. I don't think I would have imagined myself as a Knight of the Faith even a few short years ago, but these days it seems particularly important to devote myself to protecting the innocent and staying true to my oaths. I thank Gloria and all of the Gods for my good fortune and the blessings I have been given.

The last couple weeks have passed in a blur of emotions and nervous excitement. Gwenna and Jorah are doing well, many thanks to all who expressed their congratulations. Every time I close my eyes, though, it seems the boy wakes and has us all up A couple of times, I have fallen asleep holding him just so I could make sure Gwenna got some rest. Lack of sleep, though, is temporary, and we are all thrilled with this new addition to the Redrain family. I look forward to many upcoming playdates over the years, particularly with Jorah's Greenmarch cousins. Also, sleep. I look forward to sleep.

Relationship Note on Ysabel

I have found myself a new protege, the very capable Baroness Ysabel Gilden. I expect this situation will be a benefit to us both, and I look forward to working on many successful projects with her in the future.

Relationship Note on Gwenna

It feels like I slept through the entire summer. Suddenly it's autumn, and I'm trying to list out everything I should have gotten done before now to feel like I've accomplished something.

Top of my list, though, is declaring to Vellichor and the world what a delight my wife Gwenna is. How dedicated, how patient, how good-natured she is, no matter what happens.

I do intend to make my activities this autumn make up for getting nothing done this summer. As for winter, forget it. I'll be hibernating.

Relationship Note on Luca

I heard the news that my dear cousin Luca returned to the Wheel. He lost a duel or perhaps made a misstep in a dance, I'm unclear on the circumstances. But I know the world is poorer for having lost his light. What kindness and good cheer he always showed, what loyalty, echoed throughout tributes made here to him. What exceptional company he always was when we had the chance to speak. How delighted the Queen of Endings must be to take him back into her embrace.

Relationship Note on Alessandro

Congratulations to my dear brother Alessandro, named Lord Magistrate of the District of the Central Ward! I am certain he will be wise and impartial in his rulings and a credit to his profession.

The rather belated reception that Gwenna and I had at Whisper House is something I'll remember forever, I think. Honestly, I do not regret waiting until summer, not in the slightest. Champion Bliss Whisper and Whisper House did an amazing job of planning the event and bringing in everything that was necessary. I'd encourage anyone planning on a wedding reception or similar party to get their assistance. Everyone is talking about the chocolate and icewine, and while they were wonderful, my favorite part was being there with my wonderful wife, among our family and friends. It seemed like we spent much of the party planning for the future and speculating on what we should do next. Of course, there is the Redrain Grand Library, which is in progress. Beyond that, we're making a list.

My dearest Gwenna and I went to speak to Champion Bliss Whisper to finalize Redrain's Whisper House contract. We also made plans for the party for our wedding reception... which at this point is six months late and even more delayed than the contract. Still, all things will happen in their own time. I'm thrilled to have a nighttime summer garden party like we had originally hoped for. Many things are better now than they would have been if we had rushed them.

Another year in the books. Broke open a bottle of whiskey from Farhaven with my dearest. It has been a good year.

I didn't make it to the Assembly that has been on everyone's lips these past few days, more's the pity. I say so because I heard a number of people were showing off their copper brooches and other items, which I find wonderful and exciting. Let's remember in these dark days that Copper would want us to hold fast and work together to continue the legacy she left.

My dearest Gwenna had a front row seat for the visitors' presentations, as she represented His Grace Prince Darren until he could arrive. I look with dismay at the options, because they all seem quite terrible, but I encourage everyone to act with prudence. There is still time to talk and plan and learn more, which we should do, until such time when a decision must be made.

I've been listening to the reports come in of progress on the great road. So much conflict is troubling, of course, but perhaps it should not be surprising when vast amounts of money and land are involved, along with freedom, independence, safety, privacy, ability to travel, and the rest of it that is so close to the human heart. While of course it's helpful to look at lessons learned from something like this, those involved need to decide where to go from here. The more blood that is spilled, the harder it will be to get both sides to agree to a peaceful solution. I encourage everyone to consider the Sentinel's justice and when we have harmed someone, what we can do to make them whole.

I ran across an acquaintance yesterday at the Shrine of Limerance. It had been some time since I'd seen him, but it was very nice to speak with him again for however briefly. He told me that he had plans to rebuild the clocktower, and I wish him luck in that effort. For my part, I took the copper twist pin off my own cloak and handed it to him, telling him about my campaign to get everyone to wear some copper. I hope he will wear it. Honestly, I hope everyone will wear one.

The response to the idea that Dame Ida and I had to get everyone to wear a bit of copper has been overwhelmingly positive. I have been amazed at all the people who want to get involved. We aren't done, not by a long shot, but it's so nice to go out in the streets and see that flash of metal around someone's neck or pinned to their shirt or cloak. I want people to focus on the positive, to stick together in times of trouble, and the best way to do that is by example. And isn't Copper the best example of all?

I happened by Dame Ida's shop yesterday to take a look at the new pieces she advertised having available. Though I didn't manage to see any of her new pieces, I did have the good fortune to meet up with the smith herself. She indulges me by letting me talk about ideas I think would be interesting to see in her shop, and sometimes she will make those pieces. Yesterday we spoke about our strange, foreign visitors who have dropped anchor in our harbor, and how we might give heart to the people of the Compact.

So we came upon the idea that it would be lovely to see everyone in the city wearing a bit of copper, in remembrance of the woman Copper, called the protector of Arvum, and the example she set for us. It would be a symbol that we all stand together in this, that Arvum can defend ourselves, and we do not need a foreign power's protection. Copper is such a common, ordinary metal, but rich in a variety of colors and suitable for many uses. One can imagine an elaborate piece of jewelry, or simply a copper coin on a ribbon. I hope it won't be long before we'll see the warm, bright shine worn throughout Arx's streets and halls.

Congratulations to my dear brother and his lovely wife Margret on the birth of their son Marcus. I'm thrilled to hear both mother and son are doing well, and Gwenna and I can hardly wait to come visit to see our new nephew. I'm excited! I've never been an uncle before!

My dearest Gwenna and I have been married 2 weeks now. The transition has been pretty easy, perhaps because we put off making it official for so long. My days have been busy with a number of projects, which has been nice to help me settle into the family. I look forward to the library we are talking about building, in particular. The hardest part has been remembering to say Redrain instead of Velenosa. Too many of my letters these days have an V scratched out before being signed with Redrain.

Relationship Note on Jordan

I am heartbroken to hear about Sir Jordan Ober's passing. Gwenna and I often tell the tale of how he played matchmaker for us: the first time he met either of us, he insisted to both of us that we meet the other. It's as if he somehow knew by instinct that we would be well-suited for one another. He was a good man, kind, friendly, and genuine. I am regretful, too, because if we had held our summer wedding as we had originally planned, he could have celebrated with us. Now we are planning a winter wedding, and it will be held without him. I think we will have to plan some memorial or donation to charity in his name.

Relationship Note on Evonleigh

I've taken on a lovely young woman as a protege, one Lady Evonleigh Whitehawk. I find I'm most interested in seeing what creative projects she is capable of. Since I'm completely lacking in creative abilities myself, I find the possibility to partake in such things quite exciting.

I was just saying the other day I wouldn't mind having a dog to keep my feet warm, especially in the colder months. I suppose we will have to pick one out together before long.

Last night's Gala was dazzling, to the credit of my very dear cousin Lady Monique Greenmarch and, I'm certain, numerous others who spent time and silver on a thousand perfect details. Gwenna and I managed to take a peek at the garden in Whisper House as well, which seems perfect for a nighttime wedding reception. I met so many new people and saw so many dear friends, I'm sure I'll be thinking of this event for ages.
