There's a lot of rebuilding to do, a lot of people to catch up with, and a lot of reading to be done. At least Duchess Ann and Princess Gwenna both sent me bottles of whiskey, that'll help a great deal with getting back up to speed.

Reading books on strategy can be frustrating. You don't know whether the author put them in practice, or if they're just theorizing what works and what doesn't. Advice is good and well but I want them to be practical, not to be experiments that could be wildly wrong.

The war isn't over.
Don't try to pretend it is, because it isn't.
We are the victors of a costly, and I daresay pyrrhic battle, and that means nothing in the long run.
Those that are responsible, or not, for actions which led to the burning of Stormwall will answer for it in the final sum of their deeds. We don't need to rehash them now, although I understand these are important topics of discussion. So as to not repeat mistakes again.
Princess Marian used the tools she had to defeat an enemy that simply would not give up. That did not respond to our efficient and incisive defense with nothing except savagery.
All I know is that the war showed to me the points in which I am weakest as a ruler of people, as a leader of armies, and I will seek to correct those so as to not repeat my mistakes. I've begun studying again, and I hope to have experienced tutors to bestow their wisdom in tactics and strategy upon me. Or just a game of stones, that works, too.

I confess that I was afraid, when I first heard of the task ahead of us. Horses do not do well with the sea and there was the possibility the enemy would make deployment of things that Lord Tobias Telmar cautioned us about at the Aerie Peak.
And yet, your plan worked to defend the Northlands from the attacks of an impious and evil enemy.
We may have lost many that day, including Lady Eirlys Greenmarch, and we may have many more wounded than we may care to have, but we still carried the day. Under your direction, and your talent at arms.
You fought true to the words of your House, and truer still to the words of the Great House of the Oathlands. As so many of my cousins still think of you as their sister, so will I say and I believe my wife, Demura, will agree: you are welcome in Lyon's Redoubt at any time you wish, for as long as you wish, and we would be honored to have you teach lessons to young knights-to-be at our Academy. You would be received as kith and kin that you undoubtedly are, for we are now brethren-in-arms.

Since I don't think I'll get around to writing a will before I go:
My sword, Resplendent, will be given to my wife, Marquessa Demura Lyonesse, in the event I die. Should she refuse it, or otherwise is unable to receive what I bequeath upon her, it shall go to Prince Edain, High Lord of Sanctum or his son, Prince Samuel.
My suit of armor, assuming it's not useless after the battle, is to be remitted unto the care of the King's Own, since my brother-in-law served in them for quite sometime. I respect their work.
My books go to Princess Ann.
Any money in my possession or in my bank account is to be given to charity, particularly for those that settle orphans into happy families outside of Arx.

In the coming weeks I'll try to work on learning more about subjects of governance and leadership more so than war or even other typical scholarly things. I suppose it would befit a Prince to actually know what he's doing when it comes to helping the people; not just from a ground-up level.

I don't know if I'll be able to complete all the work I've got to do before we must march for war, but the missives I've received on the meeting briefings make me rather thoughtful. I want to march North -- I'd be of greater help there -- but I'll go where the High Lord needs me at.
