In the last year or so there have been a number of these auctions for people's time. I know that long past there has been argument in public discourse about them, but recently, there has been minimal to no backlash. Until Caspian 'People are silly' Wild's event.
Why?
Perhaps because the way he presented it and did it was 'silly'.
Many people are arguing over the act itself. Then Caspian goes on to 'educate' people on how to make criticisms of his actions. Perhaps we should be arguing less about the event itself and focus more on the real issue that started all of this:

There are few things I truly want in life. I try to keep my desires and expectations modest. I like to think I don't ask for much. I find myself at a time in my life where a few of the things I want are close to me, with a single guardian in front of them. If another person tells me to be patient I'm afraid I might lose my composure.

You're welcome. I hadn't planned to run the Gauntlet that night, but there was incentive given in the form of the Duke of Telmar himself showing up at midnight to give his opinion on the nighttime runs. How could I not, when his encouragement was so hearty and vociferous? I will forever remember him in his nightclothes, face flushed with the exertion of sharing his outlook so vigorously.

It feels strange to be back inside the walls of the city again, after a time spent outside of it. But of course, the call of family is strong and I could never stay away for long. Even if my twin is deserting me soon... I will miss having him around constantly, but I am glad for him. I suppose we couldn't stay attached at the hip forever. Still, I suppose it just means its time for me to make myself useful once more.

After missing the sprint, much to my dismay, I made sure I could at least attend the one event I was confident I could win. I have been proficient with a bow since I was a little girl; I am far more talented at archery than I am with a blade.
I did not win. The victory went to a commoner, Master Gerry, whose last two shots were truly remarkable. It was not an undeserved win, but I believe my own poor performance helped him win just as surely.
I was rewarded with a trophy nevertheless. I am not sure where to put it - I admit to not having thought that through before the event. It looks like my trunk will have to do.
I also received a flattering figurine of myself, crafted by Master Enzo, apparently as a gift. It is a clever way to get the nobility in his shop, no doubt. I visited shortly after receiving it and bought myself a splendid choker and another pair of earrings which go nicely with my favorite shade of red.
The figurine compliments my nightstand quite well.

I was invited by cousin to attend an event he set up to showcase the artists of the city and their works. It was... interesting. Meeting new people made it difficult to sit back and enjoy the performances, but it was interesting to see I was hardly alone in being a socially-awkward wallflower.
Sometimes I think I should take up a hobby like dancing or painting, then I remember it requires creativity to do not often practice.
