In event of my death:-

I don't care for white journals. Haven't for a long time. My thoughts are between me and Vellichor and that's how they're going to remain. But in event of my death, there's a few things that those poor few of you who care what I think should know.

Fight. Fight for what is right with all that you have, and all that you are. Choose Gloria, not cowardice. Choose Limerance, not fear. There are things more marvellous and terrible in this world than most can imagine, or will see. We don't remember the heroes of the past for their pragmatic choices. The safe choices. The smart choices. We remember them for the times where they decided that Abyss be damned and to do it anyways.

It's those last choices, that will make the Dream remember you. That will entertain the Mother of Beginnings and Queen of Endings when you return to Her. So that the threads of your current lives may be taken to weave future lives. There's no point to fearing Death, She will come for us all in our time, but when you return to the Shining Lands let it be with a tale to make Her smile.

So do not weep. Do not rage. Drink. Be merry. Share tales of your adventures and mine, and for the love of the gods, let me sleep!

Three brave ladies saved a man from a fire and caught an arsonist. Not a trained knight among them, just courage, wits, and the desire to do what's right. I am in turns humbled and amazed by them.

The mettle shown by the warriors and healers who fought to wrest Bastion back from the enemy today should be commended. Though grave injuries were sustained, victory was achieved and the work of healing can now begin.

It was my honour to battle Kyra, Templar of Gloria today in the Sanctum of Genesis. A formiddable opponent, who came out the better of our contest. Though I know not what she is recruiting for, she is oath-sworn to protect. May the Gods watch over her and those who accompany her on her future endeavours.

This journal is dedicated to my brother. He knows why. Consider your request fulfilled, Scipio.

While I'm on the subject- my gratitude to Princess Macda 'Punchy' Grayson, Lord Ian Kennex, Lord Vitalis Clement, and my sister Cufre. Without whom I wouldn't still be breathing to dictate this entry for the Archives. Brave people, all, in the face of grave danger.

I am grateful that we all survive to tell the tale, this time.

Two warhorses and a membership to Whisper House. A fine 'gift' to come round to after convalescing in the hospital for a few days. Not, mind, that the physicians want me climbing on a horse and undoing all their hard work in the immediate future, but I look forward to seeing my new steeds and letting Wrecking Ball enjoy his remaining years in a good pasture with fine food and lots of care.

The many brave soldiers of the Compact once again showed their mettle on the field of battle.

Those lost will have tales of fine bravery with which to regale the Queen.

My condolences to the families of the fallen.

Recently I was blessed with stalwart companions who held the line in the face of difficult odds. And I would like it recorded for the future that Marquessa Sunniva Harthall, Lady Adalyn Clement, Lord Michael Bisland, Lady Kalani Seleki and Master Evaristo Arterius are as fine a group as one could wish for.

Vellichor knows I don't usually care to share the bulk of my journals openly, scholar, but. I came across a series of questions posed by Lord Orland Amadeo and answered by a few more and thought that, perhaps, there was merit in answering them myself. So. Here goes.

1. What is are you afraid of?

Failing to correct the mistakes of my ancestors. Failing to live up to the precepts of Gloria, the Sentinel and Death in particular. The Abyss. Failure. Yes. Perhaps summed up simply, scholar, as failure.

2. What are your opinions on honor?

It is our word. Our bond. We should always strive to live up to the ideals of Gloria. And where we do not speak with truth and honesty, where we act with deceit, it is a stain upon the threads of our souls.

3. What path do you see for yourself?

The impending war weighs upon my mind. The fourth such major conflict in my lifetime. My duty in regards to it is clear- I will fight to protect Arx and Arvum to the best of my abilities. Survival is never guaranteed in such things, and should I die I will return to the Mother with many fine stories and few regrets. If I survive, however, and I intend to survive, scholar. I will hunt down the pieces of my ancestors legacy and see them cleansed or destroyed bit by bit. Piece by piece until none remain.

My liege willing, my family will be recognized among the peerage at last, and I will begin the long task of trying to cleanse and repair my ancestral lands alongside my siblings. If I die having made these differences? I will count it a good life, and take peace in the confidence that my siblings will continue the work in my absence.

4. You can give one piece of advice who really needs advice to live by...what do you tell them.

We will all die in the end, what matters is how you lived. Live with honor, truth, and all the ferocity you can muster, that when you return to Her you will be remembered, and the threads of your life be worth weaving into a new one.

Whiskey. Take note, scholar, should future generations ask. The best booze is whiskey. Ideally with just a hint of fiery cinnamon to it.

It is a sad thing, that we face the prospect of an attempted invasion from our former King. That where the Compact could be made mightier with the inclusion of a free Dune Kingdom we face a conqueror against his own people. Instead of rejoicing for the Compact's achievements under the guidance of his son we face a greater threat than those who have come before.

I mourn for those who are going to be forced to fight us under the influence of Mutay'a'sib and his Magisters. I mourn for the lives that will be lost in this conflict- but the guidance of the Faith is clear. Our oaths to Alaric IV take primacy, and for the sake of the future of the Compact we cannot consign ourselves to chains even when the one extending them is our former liege.

I pray that he might yet come to his senses, even as I prepare for war. My duty is clear, but this is a war I do not relish. May those who die return to the Wheel swiftly, and Mother willing, be reborn in peaceful times.

A busy series of weeks of late, and far too much time spent on ships to accomplish it. So the trip with Baroness Saik to help map some of her lands was a welcome reprieve. With only a bruise from my own foolish misstep to mark the occasion- and a couple of fish that glow a delightful blue to bring home. There's something soothing about watching them swim about, it almost makes the idea of ocean bearable.

Those who doubt the existence of the Mother of Beginnings and Queen of Endings, I put to you- what do you believe happened all those years ago when She appeared to the city to warn us of the army led by Tolamar Brand that threatened all of us?

She made Her presence known, in this, Her city. And while I am neither Harlequin nor Godsworn, as a Deathspeaker I am prepared to speak on the history of our great city and its connection with the Mother to any prepared to listen with open ears.

I'm not often one to write in the whites, but my valet brought my attention to the Legate of the Lost's moving hymn about the Mother of Beginnings earlier today, and it is glorious.

The Midnight Ball of Death was utterly marvelous, and our Queen positively radiant. All in all it was a fantastic night for which its hosts should be commended.

This week my family was fortunate- my sister, Amantha, and I both won gowns at the Fire and Ice ball. From what I saw of hers before it was taken away it was a lovely thing of butterflies. The one I received is a glorious piece of the night sky in umbra sewn with silver thread. It's in a somewhat Lycene style, which I wont pretend is my usual wont, but I am delighted by the way it falls, and the elegant simplicity of the threading over a weight of gems. I don't know who its creator is, but hopefully they might read this entry and know it has found a good home.

I'm not exactly a 'floral' person myself. My valet tried to suggest I should be a Snapdragon, which I disagreed with... until I saw what they look like after the flower itself has died. So, yes, I am a Snapdragon... after the bloom has gone off. Those tiny little 'skulls' look gorgeous.
