I remember fondly many tales from my girlhood that were told by one of the many tutors we had in Farhaven. But perhaps one of the ones that ring so true now is the tale about a young woman who desired a great many things and the lengths she'd go to acquire them. She would wheedle, she would deal and bargain, and sure enough, she'd always get what she wanted no matter the cost to herself and those around her, to those relationships she enjoyed, never realizing what she was doing outside of that victory of hers.

For a time she'd be satisfied with whatever trinket or lover or pretty little thing she had obtained, content to bask in another victory despite that dearly paid price, for everything has a price. A victory that slowly, but surely as always, turned to ash in her mouth. A victory that soon became boredom with that once coveted desire of hers. And from that boredom would blossom that need, that urge to go hunting for something new to spike that feeling inside of her back up. She would take and take and take until there was nothing left. Until there was no one left for her to turn to, to deal with, or simply enjoy their companionship. The young woman had burned every bridge in her pursuits, ruined everything in her lust and greed to have every single thing she wanted.

There is no happy ending to this tale, no. The young woman did not learn the error of her ways, for it was far too late for her to be anything more than what she was, hollow and aching, hungry, and unsatisfied. I always wondered what became of her, this one who took everything for granted and discarded people and things with such wild abandon, but my tutor would simply shake their head and smile. And gods and spirits, it was such a sad smile. The lesson remains, though, to be careful with everything and to appreciate all we have, great or small. And to give freely all that we can afford to give.

Relationship Note on Gwenna

When I first arrived in Arx nearly five years ago, one of the first people to welcome me was Princess Gwenna. It had been a little while since we had last seen each other back in Farhaven, duty sending us in separate directions, but she was as warm and loving as I remembered her. She quickly brought me up to speed on things going on about the city, saw that I was settled into a suite of rooms, and given a proper wardrobe as mine had gotten waylaid on the way to the city thanks to some nasty spring storms. She made the Villa feel as if I were still back home in Farhaven. It is something she still does to this day.

She has always supported my dreams, listened to my ideas, and soothed my worries. Without her counsel, I doubt I would have accomplished a few undertakings of mine. Truly she is a light in the darkest of places, warm and soothing to the spirit, and Redrain is blessed to have her. I am thankful to call her not just a cousin, but a friend as well.

To have her support on this latest venture, as well as the blessing of our High Lord and the help of her husband, Lorenzo, and my sweet sister, Helena, has meant the world to me. What wonders we do when we work together! I look forward to many such things in the years to come for I know with my family at my side anything can be accomplished.

I am so glad so many came out to celebrate what makes Redrain, well, Redrain! The second running of the Tankard Run was a smashing success. We had quite a few runners and watching them make their way up and down the course was thrilling. In the end, High Lord Victus Thrax took first place followed by Lord Rysen Crovane in second, and the third-place spot taken up by the impressive Lady Katya Grimhall. Lady Katya is one to watch out for! I've not seen such spirit in someone not of the northlands in some time.

Of course, I can't go without thanking those tireless people who lent their aid to this year's Taste of Arx--Lord Rysen, Lady Brianna, and my beloved sister, Helena. Each made such wonderful contributions to the event, be it a game or just showcasing their talent. But on top of that, there was also my favorite cousin Gwenna who lent her aid in the form of adorable cow plushies! I am truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends within the fealty.

It is my fondest hope that everyone left with pleasant memories and perhaps a new friend or two made. Princess Sabella was wise to want to put this on again, for it is important to be reminded of what makes this Compact so special. I look forward to passing on the baton to someone else if there is to be a third Taste of Arx, it'll be nice to see what someone else can do.

I was promised a puppy. Well, sort of promised a puppy.

Gods and spirits, it has been years since I had a puppy! I sent Simon back home to Farhaven once I realized that city life did not suit him nearly as much as rolling through the hills chasing butterflies would. Mother writes to me often to tell me how much he's enjoying his life as a spoiled and utterly pampered prince amongst dogs in the kennels at Farhaven. Of course, I visit him when I have a chance to return home. How could I not hug my puppy? Though he has long outgrown his puppyhood, he will always be my puppy.

I wonder if Mister would enjoy having a sibling. Not that anything ever disturbs that snoozebeast's naps in front of the fire. It would be an adjustment, but one I would gladly make.

I am so happy to hear of the arrival of the newest bundle of joy to the Redrain family. I wish nothing but the best for Gwenna and Lorenzo's beautiful baby. I can't wait to spoil little Jorah rotten.

It was delightful having the family, our friends, and allies, together for dinner, to see so many faces, new and old alike. It warms my heart to share such space with so many wonderful people. We will have to do it again, and soon. I'm happy everyone seemed to enjoy those adorable plush cows that Princess Gwenna had crafted up. I know I'll be hugging mine for some time to come!

Relationship Note on Agatha

The Red Bear of Redrain has returned at last, and I couldn't be happier for it! It is always a joy having my family around me, and I feel all the better having Aggie here with us once again. Hearing her loud laughter spilling through the halls fills me with warmth. We need her more than ever.

Relationship Note on Reigna

I couldn't be happier for my protege upon hearing of her latest appointment, and this one is to the Crown Ministries no less! There could be no other choice to fulfill such a role, and I know that she will bring such brilliance to it along with her warm, caring heart and her knowledge of healing.

Relationship Note on Ida

As always, Dame Ida produces genuinely excellent work. I commissioned two pairs of hairpins inspired by the Northlands from her for my raffle basket, and they are perfect in every single way. Not that I'm surprised by this as I own more sets of hairpins forged by her hand than I know what to do with sometimes. Each one is a treasure, and I know that these will find the right home.

We are blessed to have so many amazing craftspeople in our fair city. I only hope they know how sincerely appreciated they are for supplying us with such beautiful things.

Relationship Note on Apollo

There is no uncertainty in my mind that Apollo is blessed by Jayus when it comes to his craftsmanship. The snow-bear coat and gloves I commissioned from him for my basket for Princess Sabella's raffle are utterly breathtaking. I am almost sad to let them go, but I know that whoever comes to own them will be as enchanted with them as I am.

I cannot thank him enough for his hard work and exceptional skill. He is by far the leatherworker of choice for me and I always look forward to seeing what will come from his shop in the future.

This winter has left me dwelling inside more than out. I should fix that by perhaps getting the Bear Scouts together for some snow games. I admit that I'm stealing this idea somewhat from Artur, but I'm sure he won't mind. At least not until it comes time for snowball fight practice. They'll need to work on their aim after all!

Relationship Note on Gwenna

While on a bit of an adventure through the Villa to find something (not) purple and new, I stumbled across my favorite cousin in the Red Study reading. While Lille and I didn't find what we were looking for, we did find something much better. It is always a delight to catch up with Gwenna; she's a fantastic conversationalist and one of my favorite people to spend time with. We swapped a little bit about what we've been working on and potential future endeavors before it was back to the hunt for Lille and me, and the ledgers for her. Seeing Gwenna always puts a smile on my face.

Though, I think the Red Study needs a refresher when it comes to the books we keep in there for lighter reading. More adventure novels and less romance perhaps. I'm certain Dayne can help me with that.

Relationship Note on Helena

My little sister proves time and time again just how marvelous she truly is. I doubt there is anything in all of this vast world of ours that will ever stop her bright spirit. Having her in Arx is a blessing for not only me but for our family, our House. There's nothing I wouldn't do for her.

Relationship Note on Ida

Not only am I blessed to have this beautiful seraphinite bear necklace but I lucked upon some exquisite hairpins as well. Jayus truly blesses dame Ida's work, and my collection of hairpins wrought into this world by her skilled hands only continues to grow by leaps and bounds. I cannot wait to put together the perfect outfit to display both her and Lady Volcica's artistry. And these glorious gemstones, of course.

Relationship Note on Volcica

I received the gift of a beautiful necklace of a bear fashioned from seraphinite from Lady Volcica. It is simply stunning, and I shall wear it quite proudly. So many beautiful things come from the northlands, so I am unsurprised such a stone originates in the mines of the Bonespire. I shall treasure this gift always.

I also urge others to look into acquiring this stone for their jewelry. It is breathtaking! I feel so lucky to own this piece myself and to have such wonderful friends as Volcica.

I love it when I have a new project in the works — all of the planning, all of the plotting. I cannot wait for the result. In time, though. In time. Until then I will just content myself with each stage of the journey, for truly that is the most fun.

I adore flowers, especially those found in the northlands such as the glory-of-the-snow. It is a hardy, lovely flower, and it proves that even in the farthest reaches something that one can perceive as delicate can flourish and spread its glow across the land. Strength comes in many forms, is seen and admired in so many ways. To cast aspersions against those given the seemingly delicate title of a flower proves that one perhaps does not understand flowers, their nature, and the many forms and uses they have.

I'd suggest spending some time with those scholars who study the flora, then. Spend some time with those who love the land and the way it nourishes our bodies, minds, and spirits. Spend time with those apothecaries who use flowers and herbs. And yes, even with those who blend the teas that some of us love.

It is never too late to broaden one's horizons, open your mind to ideas, and learn something new, even about delicate flowers.

Two new volumes grace the shelves of my library. While they are not my tales, they are tales of someone I treasure and therefore hold an honored place amongst the rest of my collection. And with the way my collection has grown over the last three years, I think it is safe to say that I have found the joy of reading.

I'll leave the poetry writing and all the rest to my little sister.
