Let it be known for the record that there are no finer companions in arms than Princess Alis Valardin, Sword Ansel Telmar, and Lady Shae Keaton. The Mother Mercy, Princess Sophie Valardin, to heal and give words of encouragement was a true boon. Many things could have gone wrong, but didn't.

A great joy for our family! Margret and Alessandro have brought a new Greenmarch into the world, and I have a nephew to utterly spoil as a proper uncle. A hearty congratulations to the both of them and warm welcome to Marcus Greenmarch, well-named for our honorable ancestor.

Thank the Gods, and may you always repeat that phrase well into your old age, cousin.

Relationship Note on Felix

We of the West are blessed by smiths who work with the most exquisite skill and attention to the needs of their clients. Even the fussy ones like myself. Master Meadson is one of these extremely talented few. I asked for a sword and received a work of art.

While I generally avoided gatherings put on by the Salon for a good part of the time I've been in the city - under the mistaken impression I would find them boring or not worth my time - this is rapidly changing, and I find myself enjoying them a great deal. Today's, hosted by Princess Katarina and Lady Joslyn, was interesting and, dare I say it, fun? In any case, it was thought provoking, as usual, and I look forward to more.

And so the announcement becomes public, the courtship official. I am truly excited for these next three months to get to know Marquessa Quenia all the better, as she has been nothing but quite charming, intelligent, and witty company thus far. Having had the chance to get to know members of her family, I feel truly as though the Igniseris will welcome me quite with open arms when the time comes. I fully expect to have to spend the next three months having to prove myself, given the unfortunate circumstances of the past - but I am rather stubborn and shall not be dissuaded, as she is clearly a rare woman who can see me for what I am. Truly, the Gods have blessed me, and the next three months should be quite the voyage of discovery - and answering a great many questions!

And Lord Fecundo - the debate shall be settled by the end of the three months, I am sure of it!

Relationship Note on Astraea

I finally got the chance today to talk to Dame Astraea about Faith and family, knighthood and devotion, and it was an endlessly fascinating conversation. An unusually warm, humble, and forthright sort who was happy to answer my many - as usual - questions, and become another of the Godsworn to inspire me. Culminating in a spar to honor Gloria, it was truly the sort of occasion that can put one in a cheerful mood with words of wisdom to live by. A truly gracious soul.

Relationship Note on Edain

Got a rare chance to spar with the High Lord in this morning, and it reminded me of how fortunate we are to have him. House Valardin is full of exemplary individuals, paragons of knighthood and chivalry and faith, but I do not know if any combine them all - as well as wise and compassionate leadership - as Prince Edain. Ever since I took my vows of knighthood in Sanctum, I've never been anything but proud to belong to their fealty - and he is a perfect example as to why.

In general, visiting the Shrine of the Thirteenth tends to be a discomfiting experience for me - while I have lost the irrational fear I may have had at one time, I find that the eerie silence, ill-tended plants outside, glossy black surfaces...and of course, the Silent Reflections...leave me in a state of disquiet. Which is probably quite appropriate for contemplating one's responsibilities and vows as a Scholar - and what shall happen should one betray that sacred charge.

While the grim nature of the punishment is the first thing to come to mind, tongue and hand gone while thinking over their crimes....I found myself pondering - more than anything else - what it was that these former Scholars saw, what they read, that moved them to do betray their vows. Greed? Selfish motives? Curiosity? Dire threats that needed to be revealed? Of course, they cannot say, cannot write it out. They are mute reminders, but their lessons are both concrete and abstract - no matter what the reason, for good or ill, this is the fate that shall be delivered...and something all Scholars should be ready to face, should they come face to face with information they feel needs to come to light. The cost will be a heavy one.

Relationship Note on Delilah

Absolutely one of my favorite people I have met as of late, I should have known Lady Delilah would be as wonderful as her sister, just in a different kind of way. Whether dancing on moss, writing or reciting poetry on the spot, or making witty and quirky observations, she does her family as much justice as Lady Kenna.

While I am quite looking forward to the Gala that my cousin Monique is holding, I must admit that I have no end of stress in trying to figure out what to wear, especially when the theme is Legends. I shall have to seek someone knowledgeable in fashions for this, and then to design and create it.

Just as Sir Norwood Clement was so deserving of being elevated to Baron Norwood Clement through his tireless effort, loyalty to his House and his years of service, so too were the Count and Countess Keaton quite deserving of being elevated to a Marquis and Marquessa, their demense a true March. Both Marquis Kael and Marquessa Reigna have shown to be kind and just rulers of their demense and lieges to their vassals. Hard work and persistence paid off in enlarging their holdings, and done largely through diplomatic finesse, despite the fact that Marquis Kael has done a great service to the Compact with the Academy of War. And of course Marquessa Reigna is one of the most intelligent and sympathetic of all people, and her work shows from caring to the individual to the health of Arx as a whole. It is no surprise that there were no voices of dissent, as to have had an issue with rewarding a family as devoted to their people, fealty and the Compact would be to oppose all the positive qualities they embody. I was extremely pleased to have been at the Assembly for that moment, as I can think of few things that have made me happier to witness.

Cheap? That's an odd thing to say about your work, which is nothing short of masterful. I wear the outfit you made specially for me - and put much time and effort into ensuring it was precisely what I wanted - quite proudly. Very bizarre.

Relationship Note on Norwood

Baron Norwood. That's going to take awhile to get used to, I'm sure I'll botch it more than once and still refer to him as Sir Norwood. However, I have a feeling he'll understand. I highly doubt Duskshire could have been graced with a more just ruler with such a strong sense of honor, and his long years of dutiful and valorous service have made him exactly the sort of person deserving of elevation. I wish Baron Norwood the best, and shall endeavor to assist him in any way he shall require.

Relationship Note on Ailith

Seraph Ailith is simply one of the most intelligent, wise, compassionate, and empathetic people I have the honor of having gotten to know recently, and I thank the Gods for her. Several times now have I spoken to her for counsel, and never come away feeling anything other than how to proceed with more clarity. She does her office and the Faith a great deal of credit.

It's a curious thing to never have been out to sea, and now my first such voyage is coming up rather quickly. I am both rather thrilled and figuring that I should pray to Mangata for calm weather, although I doubt I should be so fortunate. I suppose the lesson I ought take from this is to do more sailing, although I can honestly say it never crossed my mind in the Greenwood that such a thing would be a concern. Change is constant, inevitable and desirable.

Relationship Note on Quenia

I had the good fortune to attend a dinner hosted by Marquessa Quenia Igniseri recently, and all of her innate qualities as a charming conversationalist, gracious hostess, and an all around intelligent individual were on full display. Having the opportunity to sit down, dine, and drink with her, her family and friends was a rather noteworthy occasion.

It is no secret that I've been proud to be an Oathlander since we bent the knee and I went to Sanctum for training by the Valardin, and received my knighting there with great honor and pride. However, as of late, this pride has become all the more powerful, all the more compelling, all the more inspirational. I must make a trip to see all of the notable towns and holds within its boundaries, and meet as many of its notables as possible. It is, after all, home - and always shall be.
