Sometimes it seems that answers create questions, not the other way around. as if I didn't have enough paperwork as it is, but such are duties.

I'm glad I made sure the jails had enough blankets and the like on hand, ones that weren't damaged beyond use that is. We seem to fare better with frostbites as opposed to last year.

There was guard however who thought it was a good idea to consume alcohol to keep warm, beyond the obvious consequences it seems to also have numbed his sensitivity to the cold, perhaps because it makes you feel warm. Regardless he's been summarily written up and reprimanded beyond the punishment he made for himself. It probably wisened the like minded as well.

Worrying about what you cannot do will just increase what you can't, while doing what you can may open ways to do what you could not before.

Yesterday I met a young squire in the barracks, intent on joining the iron guard one day. He was there to hear some stories of his mother and the silent war. Sparte asked me to impart some advice as well since he is intent on joining the guard. Told him a bit about what my grandfather taught me, beyond sword and spear. Seemed like a good squire from our little interaction, I hope the house he's staying with takes up my proposal, that he walks with the guard a few days. That way he might get a better idea about what he needs to learn and if it's truly what he wants.

The Pridehall Kite festival was quite nice, I only got to see the beginning though. I expect it flared up quite a bit more as it continued.

Recently I got new armour as was issued to every guard a while back. Still getting used to it and although it fits, I might see an armourer and leatherworker to fit it properly so it is a bit more comfortable, but that is to be expected of issued armour.

It seems it may be getting warmer again, with the winter ending and spring starting. I for one am glad although I will miss the white nights when the snow has disappeared fully.

Considering every life to be equal leaves me with many conundrums, for example is it ever acceptable for someone to have their life lost if it could be prevented? What then of a murderer who will murder if let free, should we rob him of his freedom or life or accept what his actions will be? Should we disregard who a person is when we can safe either one of good heart, good mind and good intentions or two off ill hearth, twisted mind and full of bad intentions?

Similarly if our lives are to be of equal value then should we even strive to have a good heart, mind and intent or should we ignore and do as we will.

Most of you, whose time I may have wasted by writing this, may have better answers than me.

I met a few noblemen who're accustomed to using pole arms, it's good to know there are those that appreciated them.

A few of the prisoners had frostbites, no severe cases that warm water couldn't solve but painful for them nevertheless. Remember to stay warm in these cold times.

Relationship Note on Calaudrin

I was always led to believe that grapes were the edible gift of choice, for one who is unwell.

Now I believe this ought to be remedied (hah). Peanut butter and jelly cookies are clearly the way forward. I
owe my thanks to Sir Calaudrin for broadening my horizons in this matter.

Interesting, the ways you stumble upon people.

I didn't imagine that six of us hauling an enormous brute of a man halfway across the city would be much of a bonding experience with a Princess. Frankly, I didn't imagine a Princess would even consider getting her hands dirty on some ragamuffin literally lifted out of the gutter in the Lowers. Coraline proved me spectacularly wrong, on both counts.

I'm also pleasantly surprised that Calaudrin didn't dropkick me out the door for putting quarantined lunatics in the cells.
