I am not sure what controversy there is in stating the accepted position of society. Though perhaps agreeing with tradition is the new Lycene form of edginess. I would most welcome this, and would encourage many others to adopt it.
Forced marriages are not the norm, and the Faith doesn't condone them. Yes there may be consequences for rejecting a political match, but the choice is important. It is like coming out against banning anyone with names starting with A from dancing. Yes, it would be a horrid practice, but no-one is proposing it, so it is a silliness.

Dear Valencia, you ought to know that the Faith /abhors/ forced marriages. One does not honor Limerance if they are doing it against their will. We have never partaken in such a thing and it would not be allowed.

I came to Arx during a rough time for House Thrax. I didn't understand it. I didn't know about the bridges that had been burnt. All I knew was that people left the room when I came in, and other people told me straight to my face that they wouldn't interact with me at all because I was an Islesman and they didn't socialize with my ilk. I was pretty lost at the time, and stood to lose myself more, the way things were going.
Valencia Velenosa not only reached out to me in a way that no one else did, she used her social pull to insist that people interact with me, and when I'd mess up, which anyone who knows me knows that I do, she'd smooth things over. She grabbed Arx by the shirt and all but ordered it to give me a chance, and her doing that probably saved me from sinking to become someone who I'd be ashamed to meet, now.
I don't know what's been going on over in the Lyceum ward, I doubt I'd understand if I did, and honestly, I don't care. Valencia was a friend when I needed one, and I know I'm not the only one for whom that's true.

Your courage in making such a publishing with the Scholars is commendable, and ought serve as an example for each and every member of our Compact. Where matters of justice and righteousness are concerned, there should never be any shame in voicing opposition to such a flagrant refusal to honor the living will of a Highlord.
Especially given that the Archduchess-Regent seems to have a poor understanding of the terms of her own regency. Whatever riches or strength she may have brought to the Lyceum, the suggestion that her selfish and blatant grab for personal power is meant to bring stability is a laughable idea. The Lyceum has a Archduke, already, and given her apparent disregard for honoring the will of Archduchess Eleyna, I find it immensely difficult to trust that the throne will be returned to its rightful holder in Prince Donato. Further, the incredibly thin veil that the Archduchess-Regent adopts when threatening those who owe her vassalage in a space as public as the Assembly of Peers is an embarrassment to her rule and to her family.

We went into an old cave in a territory I won't disclose, but we found lovely little fish who seem to glow in the darkness. Princess Valencia suggested we take some back. I gave them to my twins Idris and Iris as an early birthday-gift (they're six next month) and they now have a nightlight that helps them chase away shadows.

I do not often find myself so very much surprised by the actions of others.
I've mentioned in passing to friends, in recent weeks, about the fact that I would find it beneficial to learn to ride and get a horse of my own for journeys to and from Oakhaven. Princess Valencia of the Hart has been a receptive audience to some of these discussions and, this week, inquired, if I would be desiring to accompany her on rides in the forests near the city. The ride was beautiful, and we saw a number of deer - who escaped unscathed, unlike we - before returning to the city.
I know not if I have it in me to fall from the saddle as much as she mentions needs be done to be considered a 'horseman', but... words cannot express my gratitude at her kindness to give me an opportunity to pursue this want of mine.

I cannot help but notice how often Resolute and I end up over at Princess Valencia's Golden Hart. It's not just a matter perhaps of finding a comfortable place that's out of the horrid wind that howls through the city streets in the depths of winter, or how it makes the snow get everywhere under one's cloak - it's the warmth and graciousness of her company, and the enjoyable conversation. Seeing how she makes all who come through her door feel welcome, and tries to best meet the needs of those under her roof, and seeing the joy on her face each and every time said guests are delighted.
This world would be a far better place, were there more people like her highness within it.

Princess Valencia was a subversion of most my expectations in wondrous ways. Her open humility was so, I initially suspected some modicum of artifice. No--it is simply her inclination. She is silk over silver as other Foxes are, with a grace and sagacity to her word that belies the notes of innocence. Our chemistry came quick, through the eyes.
We are stars, each of us, you of particular effulgence. Rise on. I am endeared and humbled by you, and perhaps, in your company, I too may find my apex.

When I come back to the city, the Golden Hart has become one of the first places at which I call. Not only for the company of others, but also - and perhaps foremost - because of its radiant hostess. Valencia has lost none of the light that shines from within her since we last met. She is still a beacon in this city, and weathers her hardships with grace and kindness enough for two.
