I have spent an amazingly delightful night at the Inverno Estate with the Diamond Dalliance.
There is a lesson to be learned about oneself when engaged with such challenge - mainly about the difference between greed and ambition.
It also led to some incredible occurance I would never have imagined to come to pass.

I had the pleasure to host the Countess of the March of Caina in the Seraceni water gardens the other evening. To privateer sailors, nothing allures more than plunder and adventure - nothing save a petite, exquisitely dressed woman of wit and ambition.
It so happened that a business associate, Ludvigo Agorio, happened by, and I seized the opportunity to introduce him to Marquessa Inverno. Messere Ludvigo was so enchanted with the marquessa that when my retainer collected some contracts from the merchant the following morning, there was also enclosed a luxurious invitation. It expressed his deepest desire for Marquessa Inverno and me to join him for dinner at his mansion in the Upper Boroughs as honored guests. With deep regret, I had to inform him that the marquessa and I had important and pressing matters that prevented us from condescending to attend.
So deeply affected was Messerve Ludvigo with the wit and charm of Marquessa Tyche, that I have no doubt that even now he is devising some new scheme to gain her favor, assuming correctly, that, as in the meeting at the water garden, the marquessa's graceful touch might protect him from whatever dreadful and terrifying dangers to which people of business are sometimes exposed.

I am not certain it is a question of whether I am glad to have come here as much as it was necessary to. For more reasons than one, it was. I remain dubious that Arx can ever feel like home, but when a tree is cut from the forest and shaped into a vessel of the seas, it better belongs cutting through tides than lying at rest in its woodland origin.
So here I am, noting that while the heat of the Lyceum may not reside in this city's winter chill, it is alive like a fire in the company of my family. For this, I consider myself glad.

It is a great relief to be reunited with Gluttony. My father's sword -- every time I see it, I am reminded of all he managed to do with his life, and the ignoble way his life was taken from him. It has a strong legacy to it, and legacy comes with expectation. But I've no intention of living up to that legacy.
I will exceed it. Magnificently.
I have the Countess Tyche to thank for this joyous reunion, marred only slightly by the most minor of blunders. It will serve as a very memorable day, though perhaps not for the reasons one might have hoped. Nonetheless, the bond holds true indeed.
It will be my pleasure to serve as your sword.

I strongly urge those that have never been to a party thrown by a Countess on, or near, her birthday, to endeavor to do so the next time the opportunity presents itself. I found myself with a number of gems to spend and I'm having trouble deciding how to use them...

My cousin Tyche was surprised that I remembered her birthday.
The last time we were together for the day is one I have failed to forget. Each year, the day is seared into memory that time fails to wash away. Some things we simply never lapse on.
The message of her gift should be tangible to her. Having known her most of my life, I am not concerned that it isn't. Years have passed to bring us together again, and now our paths have become entwined as never before.

Unexpectedly, I stumbled across Lady Tyche at the Ambassador Salon yesterday evening. She was every bit as troublesome, delightful, and radiant as I remember her. We have put our past behind us and are starting a new friendship.
