It's nice to see him smile, to see a hint of the rambunctious youth he must have been before I knew him. He's still young for all the weight of responsibility on him, for all the bright force majeure that he is, and for a child whose family has only been the Faith, I thought it would be good to share the beneficence with all the children whose family is only the Faith.

Time spent with friends is heartwarming. These cold, challenging months that is as necessary as as the warmth from a cozy fire on the hearth. I did not know a tour of Saik Tower could turn so interesting when hearing another's observations.

How sad that every time we talk, the topics seem to be doom and gloom. Or about how busy we are. Or plans to be even more busy. One of these days we'll have to break out of the rut and find something light, fun, and interesting to do. Fishing? Swimming? A contest of how many different flowers can be found in the garden? Swinging off a balcony rail by rope... no, no, not that, might give the twins even more terrible-for-almost-five-year-oldsideas than they already have.

Strange how it is perfectly acceptable for Sir Jeffeth, the Grandmaster of the Knights of Solace to throw 'as a Godsworn' 'you disrespected a Godsworn' 'I'm a Godsworn, I know stuff!' all over in the language of his challenge and subsequent arguments, and it's "just a personal matter".
But the second Arianna puts the word 'Pravus' anywhere in a journal, you and other members of the Faith want to leap up and cry about how suddenly she's making it something bigger.
I am rather disappointed to see influential members of the Faith such as the Grandmaster of the Templars attempting to incite unrest and panic amongst the populace in these trying times by building this matter up into something it isn't, rather than simply going to his fellow Knight Grandmaster and addressing this incredibly distasteful Obeiron business.
I am /so/ surprised that this is the route the leadership of the Faith would opt to take.
I have seen nor heard anyone from Pravus, or anyone even remotely related to Pravus, supporting Princess Arianna. Because this /is/ a personal matter, and we are aware of that. She can handle it herself. You however, seem to be making a point of inflaming the matter until it is a distraction from the Compact's more pressing business.
Pravus has already dealt with an incursion from Skal'daja, we know that needs to be the focus of our attention at this time.
The Carnifex should perhaps turn his gaze that way, rather than focus on petty drama in the Capital.

It's never easy to make decisions when one carries as much responsibility as you do. As you've proven yourself to be a man guided by the grace of the gods, who knows when a fight is just and necessary, it is my hope that more feel inclined to reach out to the Templars in times of peril.

I am constantly humbled by the kind words and regard of Sir Preston, Grandmaster of the Templars. His faith in my abilities is something I will be forever grateful for, and his trust in me as both a smith and, it seems, a person, is something I hope I continue to earn. Were it not for my family, my children in particular, I would have long ago sought the path of the Templars due largely to Sir Preston's example.

Ah, but of course. I simply forgot to elucidate.
You see, in every turn of the Wheel a soul confronts its own "demon tree."
For some, these are the basest vices -- Dust, the abuse of haze or liquor, the gambling away of every last platinum duke. For these poor wretches, the "sacrifice of their blood" to the "tree" is obvious; as the tree's roots wrap tighter and tighter, squeezing every last drop of willpower from them, the damage to their metaphorical forearm is garish and visible for all to see.
For others, the "demon tree" is much more insidious -- the lure of poisonous ambition. What might lead one to forsake family and friends in their lust for ambition, tromping ruthlessly on the upturned faces of any who help them in their ascent from humble beginnings to the peaks of what power they thought possible and beyond. The gutted forearm in this case is so subtle that the victim might not see it at all until they are bled dry.
Tragedies, both.
And then, last but not least, there are those for whom the "demon tree" is literally a Gods-damned demon tree that possessed them and made them bleed for it and we burned the horrid little shit to ashes.
Praise be to Skald.

As I sit and reflect in the Shrine of the Thirteenth, I ask that journals be brought to me. Mostly those by friends and people whose opinions I respect. Interesting that I find within Sir Preston's history of Marach: a topic that I have studied recently, myself. Perhaps it is a bit of history I should not be looking into, it is true. But it is history nonetheless and there are lessons to be learned from it. His journals have led me to Rinel's and though I do not know them, I am curious to speak with them at some point.
It would seem that the gods have chosen me to undertake my devotions and my path further with the Scholars at just the right time: this conversation happening at the same time that I was studying the same topic. Things happen, as they say, for a reason.
It certainly gives me something to reflect upon.

The insight of the Grandmaster into such matters is, as ever, appreciated. None can doubt the devotion and zeal embodied in the leader of the Templars, and we as a Compact are all the stronger for their constant vigilance against threats to the Faith.
Yet I must correct the Grandmaster on one issue of fact--heretical writings of the Dominus Marach remain, found at times in the strangest of locations. For while those sworn to Lord Vellichor and Lady Gloria alike--let us not forget the presence of the Knights of the Library--bled and died in defense of knowledge, others did what they could to secret away documents that would arouse the wrath of the Orthodox. The Great Archive is too vast for even the flames of the Abyss to scour utterly; it was and remains beyond the capacity of mortal hands to break.
And so I must reurge in full my earlier journal. We worship all the Gods. But our vows are made to the God of History, and those who threaten the knowledge of His Archive, no matter how noble their intention, we shall oppose, no matter the consequence. We honour Lord Limerance in our devotion. We honour Lady Gloria in our zeal. And, should we fall as our predecessors did, we shall honour Lady Death as we are received into Her waiting arms.
For to everyone within the Dream, death shall come, soon or late. And no scholar can die better than facing fearful odds, for the knowledge of the Archive and the temples of her Gods.

Evil, no matter how small or where found, needs to be fought and eradicated. It's been over a year now since the Grandmaster let me have a taste of being a Templar. I've been assisting with supplies, crafters and economics. But given my last trip and what has been happening, I'm thinking I should take the next step, whatever that might be.

When I'd attack in the snows, back in the day, I planned on eating from the stores of them I moved against.

Imagine for a moment, Grandmaster, that this rude guest, to borrow your conceit, who has invited himself into your home has a very big stick. You are quite certain that you could not win in a contest of force with this guest - and yet you might be aware that this guest has members of his own family who also carry big sticks. Might it not be advisable to open your home to one of the virtuous kin of the rude guest, as having dealt with their indecorous relation all their life, might know full well the best way to subdue him?
