Relationship Note on Mayir

Bossman has done alright for us (with Magpie, of course). We have ships! Two types of ships. Maybe three? I know, it's so odd to focus on that, but it means we're strong and capable and we can provide real value to what we're doing with our trade deals. My old lines of business (you know what I'm talking about) won't change, but I've got the opportunity to grow that business on a grander scale. Miss Magpie, I can't say enough, but we're in good hands. Oh, apparently the boat is called a caravel. F'n great. We fancy now!

Relationship Note on Mayir

SUBJECT: MAYIR GREYHOPE

Another kind soul who offered me a meal and a drink. Ale is not my favourite, but the generosity was appreciated. The poultry stew was /amazing/ though. I would definitely recommend the place to others. But be warned! I heard tales of a mistake that resulted in rancid meals being served. Scandalous.

Fortunately, everyone in their right mind knows that the best people are those that have made mistakes in the past and are now trying their hardest to make up for it. Well, in this case, it can apply to businesses as well.

Aside from being a good sort, it seems like he's also someone important in the Lower Boroughs. He talked of businesses and the fact that he owns a Caravel. A Caravel! I'll have to see it with my own two eyes to believe him. Oh, he also saw fit to mention that he was rich.

It made me snicker. But, I suppose that if I were rich, or owned such a grand ship, I'd want to talk about it too.

Before he tossed me out - kindly - he offered to help me set up shop here in Arx. I'll consider it carefully before deciding, as I need to make sure I'm ready for that kind of commitment in my life.

He's very trusting. Sure, he had back-up plans aplenty should his trust be broken but.. still, I hope it rarely is.

Relationship Note on Mayir

Mayir, you'll get the better of me next time round I'm sure.

Truth be told, to you or any who take the time to read these journals amongst all others now or in years to come, both our families are engaged in the business of shipping and moving goods about and that business has been kind to both.

So in honesty what does a merchant family do with three ships? We carry food and other goods to those that need them, and in time if Magnata and Gild be kind, we may acquire more ships or we may not.

We can only hope that history will show the rising tides lifts all our boats, and that the common folk of the lowers can enjoy success together.

Relationship Note on Mayir

I have heard from Mayir that some are questioning the success of the Culler Mercantile, bringing three caravels into our enterprise.

That is fair enough. We /have/ achieved heights that even many Mercantiles have not.

But look at it this way: The Cullers will be known as Arx's premier marine logistics provider. It would be damaging to our reputation to NOT have three caravels to meet our clients' needs.

So don't hate us; hire us.

Messengers always welcome.

Relationship Note on Mayir

Thank you, Mayir Grayhope, for clarifying the purpose of your fellow Grayhope's actions. To enrich the members of your family at the expense of the compact.

It does a lot to explain the hypocrisy as to why Thrax is allowed to take its time to free its slaves, to prevent undue harm from acting rashly, and yet without warning and with no proper justification for the haste of this action this embargo was put into place.

If it is to enrich the Grayhopes, it all makes sense.

Relationship Note on Mayir

Let it be known that so long as I live in the city of Arx, Mayir Grayhope shall never go thirsty.

I will cover his tab in perpetuity at the following drinking establishments:

The Queensrest
The Badger Boardinghouse

While I will not cover his drinks at the Ambassador Salon, I will pay for him to receive one (1) sparkling wine-soaked nectarine any day that they are in season.

Prince Niklas Grayson
"None more willing to pay for Mayir Grayhope's drinking habits than Grayson except maybe Mayir himself."

Relationship Note on Mayir

Working with a partner is a pretty new thing for me, really. I've hired people on before, and been hired on before, but those were all specific term relationships where the responsibilities and the division of the profits were explicitly spelled out at the start, and once the task was concluded, we all went on our way. Traveling as much as I did, there wasn't much opportunity to form lasting relationships, even if I'd wanted to.

But working with Mayir is actually quite fun. We don't necessarily see eye-to-eye on everything, but then, if we did that would be boring. And I suspect that I am the junior partner in this arrangement, just for reasons of still being the newcomer to the city and its markets, not to mention that I am on my own, and Mayir has a larger support network. But even so, he's always courteous and friendly and true. I'd say he reminds me of an Oathlander in that, but he'd probably be offended. For no reason! We are good people, and not nearly as stodgy as most people think us!

It is a good partnership, and a good friendship, too. I like having friends!

Relationship Note on Mayir

I don't know the first thing about sewing, I'm pretty terrible at holding my tongue, rowing is out for the foreseeable future, and the one time I tried to cook when I was still in Tor my father and I both fell disastrously ill. Disastrously. There's plenty more!

Thankfully these are things I can always have others do for me!

Your words are appreciated.

I'll admit it. Seeing a Mayir getting his Gray Crow makes me grin like a cream-fed cat. That kind of love is a rare one. Nice to see.

Here's to calmer seas, keeping the wind in your sails and good tides in your future.

Keep it on the surface, Captain. We got a long journey ahead.

Relationship Note on Mayir

I don't know how much weight my opinions carry. I mean, I doubt it's much because I make a habit of being ridiculous. However, I can say in all seriousness, Mayir Grayhope was the real hero out there in that battle. He's the one that saw the trap of the shark. He's the one that called for us not to attack it and focus on the fleet instead. High Lord Victus Thrax heeded his words.

If you run into my cousin, Mayir, you buy that man a drink and tell him that if he hadn't been there, I truly believe the entire fleet and Setarco would have been lost. Mayir is a fucking hero. I'll punch anyone that denies it.

That happened to me one time. I was 17, though. And drunk, probably. I spent a lot of 17 being drunk.
