Thoughts of a Friend and Student:
Who comes to a tavern and brings work with them? Someone who obviously isn't looking to do work. The conversation we got into about economics has had me thinking on it for days afterward. I can't say I'm as skilled as this man is with his numbers, I barely got through the third test he flung at me, and I'm certain there was more waiting. I think I spent the rest of the afternoon, quite puzzled about it all. I need more of his time, if he's willing, to consider me a friend and student both.
Is it terrible that I'm learning to smile more.

It depends on the size of the grouping. In this case, since I'm determined to have no less than twelve, I believe it would be called an 'odyssey'. If it were a smaller group, then it falls to a 'venture'.
We will have an Odyssey of phoenixes, though we will start with a venture. And technically they'll be dracophoenixes. Twice the fire!

Oh I don't doubt they will! Don't worry, I will happily teach them to use weapons, armor, strategy, and tactics so they can have a good strong defensible location as well.

I disagree.
A soldier follows orders. A person does not have to be a swordsman, or a combatant, to be a soldier. They just have to follow the orders of the organization they are in. Could a soldier be a warrior? Certainly. But a soldier is not defined by their skill at arms. It is their willingness to put the organization first.
Whether that is an army or military unit is irrelevant.
The blacksmith that works to fulfill the order that their organization requests of them is still a soldier for that organization.
A person may be the best warrior in all Arvum, but if they don't follow orders?

Valdemar and myself were as delighted for the opportunity to be of use to House RedTyde as you were to take us up on it and offer support of your own for our future endeavors. This is the Isles that we need, strong and united for the greater good, and I am proud to have done even the smallest work with you towards that goal.

On any given day I'd agree. Yet when evidence of inside information being given to the enemies of the Compact (for the purposes of sabotage, plunder and impacting the livelihood of our domain) then it's imperative to proceed with caution. Nobody is going to be accused of anything but those who have come forward to clear their good names are received without suspicion.
This was not an embargo. It was a simple ask that any /military/ vessels in our, admittedly small, patch of ocean that were not conducting military operations with us please depart. The enemy has taken sails and used other identifiers to masquerade themselves as members of the Compact. Again, we don't need to state just whose sails as that would be slanderous but the point being.
Espionage is good reason to withhold intimate details but for the sake of argument I have indeed reached out to the Duchess and was referred to a vassal whom I was never able to meet with. Everyone's busy, but the burden of communication is a two way street and one can only call out to the darkness for so long before assuming they are alone. Yes?

Gods. Not sure what I can say, except that you've been the most wonderful father I could ask for, and that I truly appreciate the many sacrifices you've made for me. (Even if it doesn't always seem as though I do. Sorry for that.) I just hope I can continue to make you proud of me, and not drive you to despair as much in the future.
But! The way you're telling it, it makes it sound like I was trying to whack the cat or something, which I would never have done. I loved The Captain! He was my best friend. It just so happened that I always had that sword in my hand whenever I was chasing him. Which is possibly why he was always running away from me. But still.

That almost feels like it might have been a remark meant to remind me of my age, which surely you would not do. I have a lot of books and they sometimes all start to look the same, faded as they are from the years. Besides, they are usually on the shelves when I'm not in such a panic to find one of them in particular.
