Relationship Note on Fianna

My dear friend,

I wish you all the happiness in your retirement. I wish you fair winds and following seas. I wish you swift and Great roads. I wish you a whuffle from every horse whose path you cross.

Rosie and I will think of you whenever we ride, and I will give her and apple and tell her stories of you.

Be well and be safe.

Your friend,

Corban

Relationship Note on Fianna

When we were young, Dame Judyth used to make me, Locke and Lenne read _The History of the Leaders of the Oathlands_ by Scholar Abelard (though she allowed us to read the sagas of the heroes of the Northlands in the winter), and then compose arguments as to which leaders were best. Lenne and I unfailingly chose great warriors or adventurers, but Dame Judyth most often sided with Locke. Vision, patience and love of one's people are the greatest qualities in a leader, she'd say.

Growing up, it was easy to admire Asger and his limitless ambition. My love is with him still. As I grow older and hear the voices of our people, and think of the future in which my son's life will unfold, I recognize that my House is blessed with a truly great leader. My cousin Fianna has vision, and a patient wisdom, which forms a firm foundation for us all. When family members disagree, she listens to each and makes a decision such that all are treated with respect and dignity. It unites us. It gives us purpose. Her energy is spent in projects that benefit the lives of all who call the duchy of Stormwall home, and a deep and endless spring of strength flows within her.

When future generations read the sagas of the Northlands to compose arguments for the greatest leaders, whomever the brightest sibling chooses, Duchess Fianna Crovane will certainly be among them.

How good it was to learn more about how to joust in the saddle with Duchess Fianna. I hardly think there is a soul in Arvum that knows more about horses than she, and I can already feel my technique begin to improve with Rosie.

It doesn't hurt that she enjoys the Stormwall Estate's arena far better than the training area we have set up at the Crown stables. A change of scenery, I suppose.

Shriek? Stray cat? Surely you mean 'battle cry' and 'bear,' right, Cousin?

I'll do my best to keep wolfie out of the hall - but I really want to try and scare Rukhnis at least once, and I feel like the hall is the perfect ambush point - either right when she wakes up or when she's returning from a long shift at the clinic.

I had so much fun, I think my head will hurt for a week. Congratulations, Cousin.

Construction on Port Eirlys seems well under way, and I, like probably everyone else in Stormwall, cannot wait to see it completed.

Got invited to this thing at the Black Hall of Axes by Duchess Fianna. Should be a fantastic evening.

I have started to finally settle down in Arx, when I find that things have changed all the more.

You have been more than a helpful friend and confidant.

I look forward to where the journey takes us.

Another animal lover, I look forwards to seeing the new breed of warhorse she is working on. It should be a rather educational experience. Hopefully we will be able to work together on a few projects of my own.

Relationship Note on Fianna

I have written here several times about Rosie, the roan warhorse, my trusty steed. She most-recently led me to victory in the joust held in memory of Prince Barric.

I suppose, then, that I ought to write here a note of gratitude to the excellent horse rider that led me to Rosie. Lady Fianna Crovane is a fine judge of horses as anyone, picking Rosie perfectly for my needs and training her for me so we rode together from the first like it had been months together.

I am thankful for her skill and friendship and for the opportunities we have to ride together. I know she will use these same skills well in defense of the Lodge and the pasturage near it.

You've not met my hawk, Aletta, then?

Horse, hawk, hound. Three animals suited for the hunt, and I do train all three. The methods are different, of course; a hawk won't care a whit for the rewards a horse loves.

I would wear this. Without hesitation.

Still seems a little tame, though?

I've seen it. It's quite nice.

I notice some men shave all their body-fur. What's the point of that? Doesn't it get cold? And how will you know there's small, potentially poisonous bugs or parasites crawling across your vulnerable, blood-rich flesh if you have no hair on your legs or arms or all over (I know some of my family run the woods naked, and remain completely hairy because they're -smart-)?

She's incredibly fond of Yaya (who wouldn't be?) and a terrific trainer to Dumpling. And me, if I'm being frank, I've learned at least as much, maybe more than Dumpling has.

I happen to take my job as Inquisitor highly seriously.
It just so happens that I am responsible for any 'uprisings' the Duke may experience for the foreseeable future. You know. Inquisition stuff. And bunnies. That too, yeah.

I've lost all three of my brothers, and my sister remains busy and traveling - I'd borrow Asger as a brother but that'd be weird and ugh I don't envy any sisters or brothers he may have. I can't imagine what growing up with him was like.

That being said, I shall borrow you as a sister instead.
