Relationship Note on Eleanor
I had the good fortune this last week of being allowed to train in morning drills with the King's Own! I was seeking additional training with my new sword and Lord Commander Eleanor has been instructing me. She's a teacher of the highest caliber and I find that I'm becoming just a bit more skilled each time. It's a different sort of fight, this smaller blade. Not as small as a dagger, of course. But there's a level of engagement and closing that I'm not quite used to. Also the weight is different. It requires entirely different footwork as well.
I find the practice is very good for me in other ways too. It keeps me from thinking too hard. I would never recommend hard thinking if you can help it.

Not to put too fine a point on this, but a lot of children /are/ born criminals. More children, I think, than are ever born in the Compact. Every single child born to Abandoned parents is by definition a criminal, and nothing stops anyone from simply murdering them for it.

I did not comment on hereditary debt because that was abolished some time ago and is no longer relevant to any discussion of thralls made under the auspices of criminal justice. An abolishment that I entirely agreed with, I might add. I said before that there were changes needed, and that corruption existed.
If it makes you feel better to continue to try to paint me as some sort of cruel tyrant, then by all means.

I did not design the system, nor, if you may recall, did I say that it was without flaw. But just because something has flaws does not mean it has no merit either. Change, I believe is a viable option. Refining a system is oft better than simply abandoning it entirely.
This is all conjecture, however, as the High Lord has made his promise, and like any honorable personage, shall be keeping it.
I simply challenge the apparent groundswell of righteousness to point out that these people that so often get labeled as innocent victims are, by and large, nothing of the sort.

Though we work together closely, it is rare that the Lord Commander and I find time to truly sit and catch up.

I am very grateful to those who came to share the history of their weapons recently in the Sanctum of Genesis. Among those who spoke was Dame Eleanor Allenatore, Lord Commander of the King's Own and Voice of the Crown. Though I had not met her before, her reputation and that of the First Captain of the King's Own, Sir Corban, were well known to me. It was a sincere pleasure to meet them in person, and let it be written now in these sacred records of Vellichor, that the aura of inspiration and hope that emanates from Dame Eleanor is inescapable, though beyond my ability to describe.
The Lord Commander presented The King's Own Silver Dueling Long Sword, a weapon of gleaming alaricite, diamonds and dawnstone. She spoke of its history - a history extending back to King Calithex of the Nox'alfar, a history which hung on her shoulders like a hallowed mantle, lending to Dame Eleanor's native kindness and vibrancy, a regal power, calling forth invincible courage in each man and woman who might stand by her in battle, such that even if their bodies should perish, their souls would fly to the Shinning Lands triumphant in the knowledge that the Compact and its gods and traditions would not be suffered to fall.
Many others also shared the history of their weapons, some humble, but imbued with great personal meaning, and others with long traditions. I truly enjoyed hearing each of them, and I learned a lot - both about the weapons, and about the constellation of warriors who wield them.

With the Hundred now temporarily down to Ninety-Nine, the search for the next Silver Sword begins. Already, I have received letters from this commander or that, saying that I "might want to take a look at" some knight or soldier. Tales of heroism from Setarco, Stormwall, and the Lodge are mentioned. Some, no doubt, are exaggerated. Others are truthful. But the King's Own is not just about deeds, but also character and determination.
We face much. Those who stand with us must be ready for any danger.

It is an unspeakable honor to take up the mantle of First Captain of the King's Own.
I hope only to live up to the trust that the Lord Commander has placed in me and to lead the Hundred with honor. They do their duties without complaint or dereliction every day. My only choice is to do the same.

I could not be happier for (or prouder of) our new Lord Commander, Eleanor Allenatore. To say that she has been training for this role all of her adult life is an understatement. A squire to the King's Own since the age of 14, she has the spirit of a knight within her.
She will lead the Hundred to new great things. She walks the path of heroes, of the greatest knights of all of Arvum. I am proud to serve her, the King, and the Compact.

Relationship Note on Eleanor
I was happy to have Dame Eleanor on my own ship during Setarco. I was happier still that she made it back to the city alive.
Her's is a legacy that has much yet to be written. I look forward to seeing it grow more and more as Silver Sword's new Lord Commander.

The First Captain stunned me today by announcing my promotion to Knight-Lieutenant. This is an honor beyond words.
The faith that the Lord Commander and First Captain have shown in me is humbling. I only hope that I may repay by my deeds in service to the Crown and Compact.
Now I must get to these patrol schedules. The First Captain did warn it was a lot of paperwork.

Relationship Note on Eleanor
Dame Eleanor is another who, like Felicia, did not come to the Hundred in the usual way. But for all that she is determined to be the best Knight she can possibly be. And the most loyal, the most faithful. I'm proud of her strength. More than that, I'm proud of her flexibility. She has had several shocks to the system of late, and handled them all with grace.
Pretty soon now she'll have her sink or swim moment. But she was born on the water - I know she'll swim.

Relationship Note on Eleanor
She's taking her first assignment where she's in command of other Knights on business of the King. I know in my heart of hearts I chose right when I let her join the King's Own - and while this first assignment is extremely dangerous, I believe she is going to acquit herself well. And come home safely. This is the most difficult part of command. But I know her father would be proud of the woman she has become. I am too.

I met Eleanor recently.
She's done so well for herself. One of the Hundred, the King's Own - father had written to say she'd become a Knight, but I had no idea just how far she'd come. I was so pleased for her - and I'm thrilled that we'll be sailing together and working together on our projects
