The past months have seen my trust betrayed more times than I care to mention, even for history's sake. If I see that fact alone, it makes for a dark story. But we have been facing darker times now than I have ever seen before, and for every example of my trust betrayed, I have two where faith was kept.

I am mystified by the number of meetings I have had over the last few weeks that consisted solely of some variation on 'can we be friends? no, no reason, just want to be friends, yay being friends'.
Is someone spreading a rumor that I am consuming the souls of those I do not like, again? It really is bothersome to have to put these fires out.

It is not very often at all that someone manages to catch me off guard. I admit that I was not at my best when we met; it has certainly been a trying few weeks. Still, she seems reasonably entertaining, and I do not object to her company. Once we had both calmed ourselves, I certainly enjoyed her conversation. I suspect that if she were not Duke Fidante's cousin, I would've found her offer much more tempting.
