Twice I have failed. I told myself, 'this time would be different. this time would be better'.

There is little more worth saying.

My son will not know his mother, my daughter will likely only have fleeting, ghostly memories of her. But I can see her smile in their eyes.

I must do better. I have to do better.

With so much else weighing me down it's maybe a little silly to take on a new creative project, but honestly, I feel inspired and revitalized to be looking into something new, even if it's quite old. Look for my notes to the Bard's College for future casting . . . in honor of the Knights of Solace and the King's Own, this one is going to be beautiful IF IT KILLS ME.

Scholar, as I am writing this, I have returned to the lands of Cloudspine to see to the request for help by the miners working here and my first entry that I will be submitting after my return is one with sadness. It is also the first time I have pulled the blade given to me as the House Sword and had to use it to end a life. A shav who is only a bit younger than me, whose life is so much different than ours, perhaps a simpler life but one that is no doubt frayed with dangers. Dangers such as us. Though I was within my right as Sword of Blackram to dispatch this shav raider along with his brethren who have trespassed and claimed the land of my families as theirs, killed the innocent miners that worked under my family name, it still fills my heart with sadness and doubt as I feel there may have been a more peaceful path that was denied us. I will take the time to contemplate more once I have returned to Arx.

Arx has so many beautiful places!

Have you ever been to the roof terrace and gardens of the Golden Hart? If you haven't, you must! Such a romantic place! You can get such a wonderful view of the city! It's truly breathtaking. Oh, and, the secret gardens and pools on the back are quite splendid as well!

There's also the Botanical Gardens! I adore that place. Walking underneath the arbors, or just relaxing by the swings. It's just lovely! The perfect place to enjoy nature, read or sketch. They remind me a little of the gardens back in Pridehall.

Ah, and, then there are places such as the Bold, Mercier's Tea Shop and Lottie's Place. They are simply delightful!

Princess Sorrel and Lord Alecstazi performed admirably today. Rarely have I seen such a striking example of skill and power paired with honor and decency. The match must have pleased Gloria. It was a privilege to see it in person.

I have no love for bugs. If I ever do catch sight of such disgusting creatures again I will not think twice or thrice to stomp on them. Hideous little things.

There seems to be a surpassing number of threats to the realm that strike from the shadows. This isn't like how it is in the stories at all!

Heroes don't fight an ocean of faceless threats with quills and rolls of scrip - they challenge them to combat! Well, perhaps Mistress Theophania would challenge someone to a quill fight. That would be quite the sight!

Timing could be better, but we've got a large project in the works that likely won't come to light until after the council elections. What can you do? The project started before the council election was announced anyway, it's certainly not like we're doing it because of the elections. Nope, we just take care of the lowers as a matter of course.

I've never seen House Valardin sponsor a joust that wasn't excellently entertaining to observe. There's just something about an honor duel that observes the forms properly. Reminds me of something I can't quite remember.

I have spent too long in this heat. I need to seek a release from this Summer. It is camping time.

Lyseander Craw. I will not miss you. The Lowers is a brighter place now that you are gone. Here is to freedom from oppression! Huzzah!

I am getting married. It is surreal! I never thought of myself as the type to get married. Yet, here I am. I am in love with a man who celebrates life. He encourages freedom. He has pulled me back from the edge of despair and showed me the light of life. I love him. I love my Ravna.

Having missed the Unicorn Ball, I have to wonder...

Why was it a masked ball? Horses don't wear masks. Why are any balls masked balls? Is it because some people are ashamed of their face? Interesting faces are so much better than boring ones! Perfect rosy cheeks, beautiful full lips, blah blah blah.

A good scar adds character! There are so many gorgeous people in the city of Arx I can barely remember them all.

So many letters I need to write, want to write, should write. So many people I need to see, want to see, should see.

But when I put ink to parchment all that comes out is a stain.

When I move to walk out the door, the handle doesn't turn.

I need to figure out what is blocking me and remove the obstacle. I need to stop waiting and just do.

So much is different, so much is missed, but that doesn't mean what is new, or could be new, isn't waiting around the corner to bring joy. But if I never walk down the path, I won't turn that corner.

Relationship Note on Arik

I do not know who brought up the topic of the education of northern people, or why, or if there was a journal I missed or what (truth be told, I don't read very many these days). One thing I do know though is that Arik likes to yell. A lot. He's a boisterous brother.

It seems the time to leave for Brightshore is coming upon us soon, I'm entirely filled with excitement for the trip, and the chance to find a place that has not been seen by others in centuries. I had thought of trying to bring them some Frosthope, but I am not sure if the plant would be able to grow there or not. Either way, I hope to bring a plant with me, as my gift.

Relationship Note on Kedehern

It's been two months now since Keirlys and Kristoph were born, and I find myself even more in love with them then when I first held them. If you had asked me a few months ago if I could imagine feeling so much love for one person, I would not have been able to. But now, I am just in awe of them everyday. Sure, there are times of frustration, but it is worth it, they are worth it. And I'm thankful for my wonderful husband, too. He's been a wonderful partner, and an excellent father to our children.
