Relationship Note on Edward

A member of one of the vassal houses to Thrax, I was worried when I encountered this lord. In response, he was courteous, affable, and interested in our family history. And upon learning that we were descended from escaped thralls, he told me of a project overseen by Dame Coldrain: one that would see an island in The Mourning Isles given to former thralls to rule themselves.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

The Archlector of Skald and I seem, at first glance, to be kindred spirits, and his joy and humor put me at ease in a time when I needed it badly. I look forward to exploring a friendship with the man, and to learn more of the Lost God of First Choices from the archlector.

I have arrived in Arx.

Though I had hoped to travel with the rest of my family, local matters have monopolized their time. So, I find myself a kind of advance scout, taking the pulse of the city, learning of its troubles and glories, meeting its denizens and those who broker for power in its halls.

Marquessa Deepwood has been kind enough to open the doors of her estate to me, and though I have not encountered her here yet in the flesh, I find myself grateful that there is a friendly presence somewhere nearby, perhaps just out of sight. In the meanwhile I have set about exploring, and those explorations have already yielded some surprises.

First, a new friend in the form of the archlector of Skald. Second, a vassal of Thrax who seems interested in the self-governance of thralls. Third, a princess with a mind for refugees. Perhaps, sensing I am a kind of refugee myself, she has shown an interest in helping me to throw a party to celebrate my arrival and introduce me to people of import.

It is all rather frightening. But then, that is why I am here.

Fortunately, it would seem there are familiar ways to face my fears here in plenty. Arx is not far from the ocean, and there is river rafting, climbing, and a rather dangerous forest all within reach. I suspect, too, that there are greater dangers than all of these still hidden from me, terrible tests.

I welcome them.
