Demons. Blood magic. And now I hear rumors of Thraxian ships that will be crewed by women. Hopefully the latter won't be as disastrous as the former but I wouldn't bet on it. What strange times these are.

And so it ends. Former High Lord Donrai Thrax has been laid to rest. Purified by the flames of a funeral pyre, words said over him by those of the Faith, his ashes should be heading out to sea to be scattered across the waves where the tides can carry them to the furthest shores.

Children. The treasure was children. Which, admittedly, was a bit disappointing as actual treasure would have been nice. Instead, the hold was full of hostages to guarantee the loyalty of their parents, who, we can assume, command various tribes of Abandoned. Which presents us with a nice little problem.
It'll take some time to return them all to their homes. But should we? They were captured once, they can be captured again. They'd be safer with us. Not incidentally, this would put their parents in the same exact situation they were in, except with the Thrax holding hostages even if that wasn't the purpose of keeping them.
I could make arguments for both keeping them and returning them. I'm rather glad it's not my decision.

Leading up to and during the battle against the Bringers and shavs, I was patrolling the coast. On at least five occasions, I came across groups of Abandoned trying to join up with the larger group. I could identify most of them as having come from the Mourning Isles. Why? Just to fight against the Compact or has someone been recruiting them somehow? Were they promised something?

It was suggested that I relate this story so that it would be on record in the Archive. Having given it some thought, I agree. There should be a record of it. To those who'll say it's just a story, I say this: it is no story. It is fact and I swear by the gods that it happened as I put forth.
When I was a boy, I saw the kraken. I was not a fanciful child and I was old enough to know what I saw. There is no other creature to compare to it so there could be no mistake. The creature rose from the water and attacked a Thrax ship. Its tentacles, of which there were many, wrapped around the sailors and dragged them into its mouth which was easily twice the size of the largest man on board. Their weapons were useless against it and it made short work of them. Soon enough, every man on board was gone, devoured by the creature. And then it left, leaving the ship to drift, without a crew, at the mercy of the wind and currents.
The kraken is real. If your ship is attacked by it, I wish you luck and give you this advice: don't waste your time on the tentacles. If it has risen above the water, cast your spears and aim your arrows at its eyes. If you have flaming pitch, use it. Act quickly and without hesitation before it is too late. You won't kill the beast but maybe you can drive it off before the last of you is dead. May Mangata bless you.

I didn't know Fawkuhl at all. I'd never met him nor spoken to to him. Because of his position and the dark forces we're constantly being attacked and manipulated by, I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I've met Dominus Aldwin. He's a wise and learned scholar. His very first official words to us all as Dominus are encouraging. I have great hopes that he can mend the rift between the Faith and the Houses. Divided and at odds, we can only fall to the demons and the forces arrayed against us.

Not what I expected in a Templar.
Fit? Yes. Strong? Yes. Handsome? A nice bonus but not a requirement for the job. Dogmatic? As expected. But intelligent. More intelligent than most people give him credit for, I'd guess. I enjoy our talks. As I said, not what I expected from a chance meeting.

Donrai is dead, murdered along with two of his guards by an assassin. Or maybe more than one.
Dagon was heir and claimed the title of High Lord but was challenged and lost.
Now, House Thrax stands united behind High Lord Victus, our blades ready. We will find out who killed Donrai and take the appropriate action.
