for what you see,
only your eyes would be
in love with me.
If you love me
for what you've heard,
then you would love me
for my words.
If you love
my heart and mind,
then you would love me
for all that I'm.
But if you don't love
my every flaw,
then you mustn't love me-
not at all.

The saddest word
in the whole wide world
is the word almost.
He was almost in love.
She was almost good for him.
He almost stopped her.
She almost waited.
He almost lived.
They almost made it.
II. Tiny Stories
No one warns little girls
how boys with such pretty eyes
who smell like smoke,
who taste like rain,
who talk like silver,
are reasons behind
tear soaked pillows,
half finished poems
and so many sad dreams.

It was like being exhumed, I answered. And brought to life in a flash of brilliance.
"What was it like to be loved in return?" asked Joy.
It was like being seen after perpetual darkness, I replied. To be heard after a lifetime of silence.
"What was it like to lose him?" asked Sorrow.
There was a long pause before I responded:
It was like hearing every goodbye ever said to me--said all at once.

Yes, all 50 of them. It's time they find a new home and there's a place down south that I think will appreciate them.
Yes, scholar I have gained a few since last we spoke. Stop giving me that look I'm fully aware of how much cat hair I have clinging to my clothing.

I can't say I've ever been so overjoyed in my life.
Thank you, giver of salacious breadcrumbs.

Anyone that says anything else is just sugar coating it.
Not that I don't enjoy the sugar coating, or even the madness. It's the sweetest drug.

I think I'm going to write another book, inspired by this rant and the Flower Cipher I see floating about:
The Hater's Guide To Sending Passive Aggressive Flowers.
Actually, it's almost finished.

Have you ever truly seen a butterfly? Leave the wings out of it and it's a wretched and hairy and twitchy body with too many darting legs and antennae. (Moths are far more pleasant, with predictable legs, fat fuzzy-in-a-cute-way body, and lovely powdery wings in far less gaudy colors).
A sunflower is too big and heavy by at least half. It reminds me of a severed head of a blonde man. No plant should contain so much... plant. The stem is fuzzy, which is disgusting and the central cluster is a hypnotizing clot of spirals that resembles a blood shot eye vainly attempting to look cheerful. It's thick and sinister, but tries to disguise itself as something pleasing to the eye like a dead woman whose smiling mouth is a jagged slash of blood and lipstick.
To the sunflower: I do not accept your false and charmless attempts at levity. You are a bad plant, and you have no right to grow as tall as you do. I am a human. I stand above you on the food chain. How dare you grow as tall as me.
No, Scholar do /not/ ask me about carnations.
No woman, I can assure you, has ever happily received a carnation as either a corsage or as part of a bouquet.
It has confirmed for her every doubt she ever had about you. “A carnation,” she says brightly, while in her head she has already left you for another.
I will not insult you by going into details. If you cannot immediately guess why carnations are unbearable, there is no hope for you.

The Lunaris is the central hub of the lower floor, leading to:
Cabaret - with nightly entertainment from some of the Compacts most wonderful performers
Arcadia - a sprawling garden with fountain and outdoor stage.
Needful Things/The Augury - Two shops owned and maintained by Neviah, wherein Empyrean members get a 50% discount. One being an apothecary and the other being odds and ends and occasionally a place to have your fortune told.
Casino - Well, generally a games room and is relatively new. We are still waiting on developing games for this.
Aerary - So new it hasn't officially opened yet! This will be an art gallery showcasing pieces from various artists around the Compact Paintings, sculptures, pieces of fine jewelry or fashion.
The upstairs area is the members area, though of course visitors are welcomed and encouraged. The central hub is a hookah lounge, from where you can access:
Baths - Featuring herbal baths to soothe aching muscles or wounds, an aching heart, or to preserve the youthful appearance of your skin or improve its softness.
Terrace - A beautiful view of the city, perfect for small parties.
Conservatory - A place to hear some of the Compact's most beautiful birds and see some beautiful plants in bloom all year round. (The bubbling tub is divine!)
Library - Featuring many books on many topics, and is constantly growing.

I feel refreshed, and I'm sure that wasn't even her intention. I didn't even have one of her famous cookies (yet). I look forward to working with her.
What a lovely lady.

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing."
I also can't help but to think there is perhaps no one better suited to these kinds of studies than Baroness Stormbreak. Her curiosity and quest for knowledge seems to be genuine. I think it would take her far and prove to be her greatest strength - if only more of the Compact had her open mind and willingness to learn. May she find the answers she seeks in Vellichor's honor and prove to be a beacon of knowledge and inspiration to us all.
