*A sketching of rude snowmen and a rude Edain, surrounding Eirlys, watching her sleep.*

Relationship Note on Victus

Otter pirates? That actually sounds adorable.

Relationship Note on Victus

Oh, certainly we have other methods of fishing in the mainlands for freshwater fish as well, from spear, to pole, to net, and bow and arrow, and more.

They simply aren't known as noodling, that's all.

I think I'd actually rather like to try my hand at some of the larger specimens out in the ocean at some point, if I can ever find the opportunity.

They practice Noodling in the Stoneburn Hills, as well. I've even done such, many times. There however, it means something very different, as I shall explain.

Specifically, it means using your bare hands to catch flathead catfish for sport and food. The choice of catfish as the prey is not arbitrary, but comes from the circumstances of their habitat. Flathead catfish live in holes or under brush in rivers and lakes and thus are easier to capture due to the unmoving nature of their dwelling. To begin, a noodler goes underwater to depths ranging from only a few feet to twenty feet and places his hand inside a discovered catfish hole. If all goes as planned, the catfish will swim forward and latch onto the fisherman's hand, usually as a defensive maneuver, in order to try to escape the hole. If the fish is particularly large, the noodler can hook the hand around its gills.

Mind, the average flathead is around forty pounds, though I've caught fish as heavy as one hundred twenty pounds. These are fairly muscular beasts, and there have been fish spotted that weigh over three hundred, so it can be a fairly dangerous activity, and I don't recommend it for the inexperienced, lest they lose an arm, or worse, drown.

Fine. So be it.

I like the smells of pine, cedar, crushed mint, freshly tilled soil, and citrus with clove and cardamom.

No, I won't be sharing my thoughts on marriage.

Well, it seems I stuffed my foot into my mouth last night, speaking with Eirlys. I feel awful about it still, even if she swears it's alright. I'll have to find some way to make recompense.

I met with Count Keaton and various members of his family as well. Most aren't nearly as taciturn as the Count himself, it turns out. One even offered to help assist me with some investigations I'm doing, looking into the corrupted animals of the Gray Forest. She seems to be something of a lover of hounds, but from the Keaton family, that's no great surprise, is it?

Relationship Note on Fergus

Edain, Your Grace, I'm forced to admit that Fergus is correct, actually. They don't taste alike. Having had both, raw moose taint is more preferable.

Relationship Note on Fergus

I suppose I might as well see if my size is useful for something other than garnering insults from Duke Arn.

Even if it does taste like moose taint.

Relationship Note on Alaric

A king who raised a commoner born in the stables to Royal Stablemaster because he was suited for the job as opposed to having the best connections. I don't know him personally, but that already speaks to me.

High Lord Edain is planning a tournament soon, it seems. Unlike my fellow Valardin vassals, I've never really cared for such things. There's always that niggling worry of doubt in the back of my mind. 'What if I lose myself? What if I take it too far?' It's the doubt I've had ever since that day as a boy. Ever since I began losing time.

Still, Duke Arn has been bid me join. He says he wants his vassals known as dangerous men, it seems. I am not sure he means that kind of dangerous, however. Still, he is my liege and I do not think I can refuse him in this. To that end I even had new armor made. Steel plate and mail, rather than my usual leathers. The set is a great, heavy thing, all enameled in black and green with our ram on it. The commoner, Reyna saw it. Says she thinks I look ridiculous, like a wild beast playing at being tame.

I'm not sure what to think of that. In any case, the hour is getting late and I have needs of sleep. Hopefully tonight is a dreamless sleep for once.

Relationship Note on Aiden

Simply enough, I like the man. He's passionate about what he does, and has strong opinions about it. That alone would make him worthy of a certain sort of respect. That those opinions tend to run alongside my own, more so. I think I'll have to take his advice and visit the park myself. Maybe while there I can even feel like I'm not confined myself.

Dearest Journal, seeking out areas within the city can get one into places they should not go. Duly noted, and it would not be the first time I was told to leave a portion of Redrain property before.

Relationship Note on Ariel

Met this Thraxian Lady while I was out exploring, about to check out the Redrain ward. Led to a nice long conversation, getting kicked out of the Stone Grove and eventually a good talk in the local tavern.

Apparently trading in tanned hides from my years surviving on my own in the wilds can help a little with trading in resources in this city. Here is to hoping I've helped the family with setting up a trade route exchange with that tall Redrain, Agnarr.

Relationship Note on Monique

The Minx of the Marshes, I do believe she is likely a close comparison to how I was in my younger days, just a female version. I also believe that she is a bad influence for a man who wishes to do right by his family and be a good nobleman, she still allows her feral wild-side. Will be interesting to see what comes of that friendship.
