Today has been a day of sparring.
I fought in two bouts of free-for-alls that were highly enjoyable. The first fight was with the legendary Princess Reese Grayson, Prince Barric and Master Voss; of course I will need another set of bruises to go with those I received, so I fought another bout with Princess Agatha Redrain, Sir Jordan Ober of House Ashford, Dame Felicia Harrow and Mistress Mirari Corsetina.
It is remarkable how many friends and acquaintances I make on the proving grounds.

I have decided Princess Agatha Redrain is my favorite princess.
Granted I have not met a lot of princesses in Arx, but the Red Bear princess is the first one to thrash me on the proving grounds, so that makes her my favorite.

Although I did not take part in the battles of Stormwall or Setarco, my time spent on the roads was not entirely unfruitful.
We scattered and captured several bands of Shav bandits during the Gyre crisis, and it appears many were driven to desperation by starvation in their villages. I am curious whether this food shortage is a result of our war preparations, or is it manufactured by this slippery bastard who calls himself 'Heir'?
Whoever and wherever he is, I will find him and bring him to justice. I don't think he understands how effective my answer to all impediments is.

News reached Oakhaven this morning, of battles joined in Stormwall and Setarco. Of the horrors faced in the far north and the Compact's pyrrhic victory. And of the battle still being fought in the waters of Setarco. I do not yet know how my family has fared; I pray for their safety, as I know none of them will hesitate to stand and fight even in the face of certain death.
Especially Jaerith, you brat. If you take unnecessary risks just for the thrill, I will kill you myself.
Rohran and I have been busy keeping the roads to Southport open and safe these last few days from Shav bandits, of which there is no shortage. Not surprising, since they know many of our soldiers have gone to the fronts. Still, I am the Sword of Oakhaven; I feel I should be fighting on the front myself, not chasing bandits and guarding supply routes. Once we established regular patrols, I will ride back to Southport, which fortunately has remained unassaulted for now.
I find myself wondering where the Pirate King's third force is, if not heading to Southport?

My ride back to Arx was an odd one, as I passed soldiers marching in the opposite direction.
After riding with Countess Reigna and Lady Khanne yesterday, on the first leg of their journey to Stormwall, I returned to a city that seems eerily quiet. Many of the banners rallied have departed to the various fronts, and those that haven't are making final preparations to leave. This eerie silence is present even at Keatons' Hall: Count Kael, Jaerith and their men have departed for Setarco while I was away. We did not even had a chance to say our goodbyes.
I pray to the Gods our wayward cousin Aric keeps his word to keep the rest of the family safe in Arx. As much as I have reservations about his convictions, he is still family and his presence does ease my mind somewhat, so that I can focus on my own duties.
In the morning, I depart for Southport.

As I said to the Master of Questions, work and duties are simple. There is right, and there is wrong. Pick the right path and follow it to the end, and it is done.

After weeks of planning and debates, the time has come for action. I don't relish the thought of my family scattering to the different fronts, but as always we Keatons do what is needed: we answer our liege's call and so my lord and cousin head to Setarco; the Countess heads north to Stormwall to aid the besieged, and I am to ride to Southport to render aid before returning to Oakhaven to prepare our defenses. Others of my family remain in the relative safety of Arx, but this is war against a great evil, and nowhere is truly safe.
Family is important, and we all do what we can to protect them. Someone ought to kick this Pirate King's watery arse and teach him why he should never bother the Compact ever again.
