Relationship Note on Galatea

One of the lovely things about being a scholar is working with other people who are likely smarter than I am, sharing information and coming up with new theories and new avenues for research.

Relationship Note on Karina

Her artwork is exquisite, and I like to stop by her shop on Thrax Row just to see her new works.

She takes commissions, too. Her portrait of me that I gifted to my husband Prince Galen was received with great excitement.

I am always amused to see my son Kyrios playing with Prince Asharion Grayson. He had a fantastic time at Asharion's jam birthday, although everything is still sticky. I don't really understand how after so many baths and launderings Kyrios can still be sticky, but he is. He can't stop talking about how fun it is, and he can't wait to see Asharion and his "Aunt" Tikva again.

Plus everyone who wanted to got to hold Lilah like she was a good-natured sack of potatoes. A good time was had by all.

Sunflowers. Sunflowers. It's frigid cold and all I can think about is sunflowers.

I wonder if they mean something.

I should have destroyed that stupid helm of Galen's with the reindeer horns years ago. He's going to poke someone's eye out with the damn thing!

It hurts me a little that I am so caught up with my duties to the Mourning Isles as the wife of Prince Galen Thrax, Warlord of Maelstrom and the Mourning Isles, that I am unlikely to have time to aid my Wyrmguard cousins with the Tragedy at High Hill. They were Wyrmguard vassals, and they are all dead now: man, woman, and child. I had friends among them, and I worked with them to improve High Hill. My heart breaks a little.

May Marquessa Dominique Wyrmguard, her sister Lady Desiree Wyrmguard, and my other cousins find ways to right this wrong. May their liege, Duke Telmar, aid them in seeking the Sentinel's Justice for them.

And may Death embrace the residents of High Hill and bless their souls, I pray.

I have my song again!

I would like the following people for risking life and limb to help me get it back: Princess Tikva Grayson, Baroness Lucita Saik, Sister Sophie Valardin, Marquessa Reigna Keaton, Lady Miranda Rubino, Sir Jeffeth Bayweather, and Squire Sparte Grayfellow.

These people went on an arduous journey on my behalf, at great personal risk to themselves, and I owe them much. They are amazing people, my friends and family, as well as everyone who volunteered to go along with them. We had quite the adventuring party, and each showed off their strengths admirably. I am proud to be associated with such an amazing group of people. They shall have my love and gratitude forever.

I'm starting to think that the only one who really likes the snow is Marquessa Pudding, my big white dog. She was snorfing down cookies at the tea shop earlier, and when we left to go home, she cooled off by rolling in and eating the snow. I suppose it's appropriate, since she's so big and fluffy, all that fur must get warm, but she's still a silly doggy.

I went to the Museum of Arx on a mission led by Prince Laric Grayson, with Fortunato Grayhope, Faye Ruger, and Lady Kenna Whitehawk. Our mission was to retrieve a golden music box. Apparently, Brass provided a golden key, but it fit a different golden box than the one that we retrieved. We performed a ritual of hope and heroics, "Forever the Flame against Darkness," in which we each told a story about a hero we admired. There was concern that this was a terrible idea, but we girded our loins, as it were, and prepared ourselves. We were very quiet when we entered the museum, at which point we heard a song that was sad and haunting, so I sung to counter it. To counter the song that made us all want to fall to our knees and weep. But I failed. My voice caught in my throat.

Then, we were beset by clowns. They encircled us, and they laughed at us. A most terrifying laugh. We wanted to laugh with them, but we knew we could not. Desperate, we looked around for the music box to try to beat them back. Kenna spotted something -- not the music box, but a golden box, and she dove for it with the key. It sprung to life, showing off pictures of happy memories of Gold's life, kept in a perfect form. Ordinary and private, but happy. From before the Reckoning. Before everything we remember as awful.

The clowns were mesmerized. And hungry. And focused on the pictures as if they'd feed them something they desperately needed. So focused were they that our little party managed to slip past them, not making a single sound. And on the way out, Faye grabbed a music box she found by chance, a dusty little box. We just knew that we had to get out and there wasn't much time.

But I was rendered mute by the experience. Unable to speak. Unable to sing. Otherwise unharmed.

More questions than answers. Also, clowns are horrible creatures. And that is why I cannot talk.

Relationship Note on Luca

With evil cultists all around,
Luca was the perfect fighter
He cut them up, he cut them down
With him the world was brighter

Oil him up and watch him fight
In nothing but a sheet
He'll whip it off just to disarm
That hardly is a cheat

He really liked to collect swords
For protection and good deeds
My favorite one was in his pants
He saw to all my needs!

Relationship Note on Luca

It's a very strange feeling, the pain of grief for one of your dearest friends, knowing that he died as he lived, facing challenges head on.

I am not okay.

I am too young for follies, and probably always will be, but it's terrible to find out the way I found out, and my heart just has a hole in it. I feel right now that I may never dance again, although I know that isn't true. There's something in my soul that reacts to music, after all, and I know I'll dance again, thinking of my dear friend the whole time.

Relationship Note on Sophie

It is a good feeling to feel hope. To feel alive and good. To feel the warmth of the light despite the cold of the weather.

Little boy and baby sister went with me to see Cousin Sophie walk in the light and take her vows as Godsworn in a beautiful ceremony. We were very well-behaved and enjoyed it greatly. It was a wondrous good.

As I meet more people around the city who did not have the opportunity to attend my original concert series, I am considering putting on a second one for those who could not make them the first time around. It would be at a different time to try to reach a different audience, because I am amazed at how much interest there seems to be for such things. The first set of concerts were very well attended, but I think a second set might also be well attended just due to different people being interested. I shall have to consider this.

Relationship Note on Ysabel

I have been quite blessed to take Baroness Ysabel Gilden of Caith as my protege. She is a charming woman, quite delightful, and I think she will truly blossom as we collaborate together. It should be a very fruitful relationship. I just hope that I can be a good patron to her.

I am working on the Order of East Light quite a bit lately, what with Princess Coraline being busy being a newlywed, among other things. I would like to see it thrive and prosper, for I believe that reviving ancient traditions is something the Isles needs right now. We are working on a project which will renovate an ancient ruin to be used once more for the training of knights on Maelstrom. Yet it will take many resources and much time.

I had the good fortune to speak with Princess Liara Grayson yesterday, and she gave me some ideas about fundraising. I can only hope that others who are interested in this sort of thing also step up to help me with it. This is one of those times when I truly miss Princess Coraline's talent for this sort of thing.

Relationship Note on Alexandre

My brother has been murdered in the name of 'justice.' His murderers should beware, for they will be brought to true justice under Sentinel for this grievous crime. I have no mercy for those who would do this to a true knight, a member of the Order of Eastern Light, and I will work with those who must now deal with this malicious crime.

His child should not have to grow up fatherless, and I will see to it that both his widow and his orphan are well taken care of.

It's quite exciting to see one's lyrics quoted everywhere, to be part of a movement that champions Hope without even that being your original intent. And yet the copper brooches to remember Copper that have been made by Dame Ida include a line from my song on them. They're lovely. And they're growing into something bigger.

People are rallying behind the memory of Copper as a beacon of Hope. Of self-determination and freedom. Of struggle and success. To me, this is quite the beautiful thing.

Not only that, but so many bards, including the talented Evaristo, are singing her song. Let her not be forgotten. Let her memory stand strongly.
