You're no longer being subtle, you. Again -- neither am I. Blast these allergies, they're making me incoherent with emotion.

A thought on fear: It motivates us to take fervid action. Although, we cannot let it overwhelm us to the point of making us zealots.

A thought on marriage: I cannot think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I cannot hold a conversation with, or worse, someone I can't be silent with. I am able to sit in silence with her as easily as I can talk to her. I see togetherness as one or as separate equals. Two halves that each function as an individual whole. Strong together. Just as strong when we are apart. A respectful harmony of opposites that complement one another. A marvelous side-by-side partnership.

Happiness ought to be felt and shared; it's not meant to be hidden away. It's meant to be offered out; not to be felt alone. When it's shared, a smile among friends - - a shared look among intimates -- that's when the greatest joy can be measured.

All kinds of emotions – pleasant and unpleasant – motivate exploration. Pettiness is essentially treating something small as if it were important (especially a perceived personal slight.) In the early stages of a curiosity, being inappropriately obsessed with the apparently trivial is simply a way for that idleness to work and for a realization to arise. Or, in order for an error to be corrected when the lesson is fully learned.

Once and floral, we ought to nip this conversation in the bud - cast the topic aside with a florist - and bury it.

At part of my new duties within the Scholars of Vellichor, I have taken to transcribing some of the songs and poetry that I have the opportunity to read within the Whites. This has included the verses of Lady Amarantha Sanna and the songs of Lady Sorrel Wyrmguard. All of these transcriptions shall be copied and bound into volumes that will be added to the Stacks within time.

If you, Constant Reader, have an interest to have any of your own verses, songs, or stories added to the Archives -- please, send forth a copy to me.

Count Duarte is quite right - it is a riddle known among the Lycene (and Mirrormasks, I suppose) - and the answer is a reflection. This does not make you poor at riddles, your Highness, it simply makes the rest of us more keen to answer them.

As for the riddle that the Count himself poses, I wonder if it could be a shadow.

Although, I return to edit this entry as others have noted - shadows do dance when lights strike at them from all angles. They are not frozen to anyone but the thing that they are attached to. Although, they do melt into the darkness - don't they?

Clever things, shadows.

I feel as I ought to draw tiresome parallels between shadows and light, truth and honesty. Perhaps play the opposite saying that we always seek to know the truth - the full and complete truth, but we are caught up by honesty. We are bound to be honest with one another, but we are not always truthful. To me, honesty means not to speak falsely. To me, truth means actively making known all of a matter. Truth is a shadow, honesty is the light.

It's an interesting, if loaded, paring of words: character building.

It echos. We hear whispers of "it builds character" as we endure through all of the trials and tribulations that life hands us. Each time that we suffer, we are reminded, and we cling to the words like a threadbare blanket. Each choice and action we take adds or detracts from our character. Every day we are faced with positive and negative. It's the freedom of choice. Not an exercise in balance, although it would be easier if it was. We choose to build character through good choices and actions as often as we can. Yet we remain imperfect. How we respond to our imperfections -- and the faults of others -- can build our character.

Character. We know it when we see it in others. More importantly, we know when it's lacking. We pay close attention to each black mark that we strike against those of bad character. We appear to forget the moments of good character regardless of conditions or circumstances --

I suppose that also builds character.

I heard one of the Academy clerks that attended the tourney say that Guildmaster Joscelin's cheeks turned as rosy as the rubicund that her Champion won.

Inspiring.

In the study of pragmatic reasoning there is (one) how the meaning can depend on the context of use, and (two) the contrast between what is said and what is communicated. The rest is semantics. Facial expressions, body language, and proxemics all provide meaningful content.

I believe that the term is a word blend -- not exactly a portmanteau -- and certainly not a term that is found in the standard Arxian lexicon. However, it is a rather charming colloquialism that I believe should remain as one word. Versus the most polite three-word term which is more widely used and known. Although, it lacks the impact that the original term seems to have.

That is only my scholarly opinion on the matter.

No, no -- providing clarification. Please, see your entry on Mae.

If you were a flower, Joscelin, you would be the one that blooms practically in any season. Like a chrysanthemum. Thankfully, you (and everyone else) is much more complicated and diverse to be compared to a single type of flowering plant.

An interesting question: how will we be looked back on? What will our own descendants deplore about us? How much do we take for granted?
