Relationship Note on Rebecca

I am sorry if we made you feel forgotten Rebecca. You never were.

Recently on a journey to Estroch I discovered two things:

One: The shoals to the east are absolutely stunning.
Two: Said shoals are inhabited by sharks that view me as little more than a snack.

If not for Lady Neilda tackling one of the creatures and the archery tricks taught to me by Princess Ophelia I might not have escaped.

Its a shame we couldn't bring some shark skins back. They really were rather handsome.

Relationship Note on Thea

Her training methods are somewhat draconian but do actually work if you can survive them.

After listening to one to many groups of sailors boasting, Thea and I decided that we would attempt to make an event of it. That event happened today and we heard some truly impressive tales.
Lord Wash provided us with a beautifully told story of the day he sailed over the column on the island called the Devil’s comb. Lord Gogil told us about a golden duck he found during a voyage which sent shav’s scurrying for the hills. Then, finally, Messere Tanith told us a tale of the day she felled Raymesin Ulbran in single combat.
We named Messere Tanith victor after hearing that tale and I am rather looking forward to seeing the tapestry guildmaster Apollo makes of that event. Hopefully Messere Tanith will gain a lot of pleasure from the art and coin she won.
We will definitely do this again.

Relationship Note on Martino

There is a Luthier's workshop in Nilanza not far from the house of vows. It's a delightful little place positioned just before a hairpin turn which provides some of the most exquisite views over the ocean that you are likely to find. If you want an instrument that comes with a story. I can not recommend them enough.

In these times of strife - and, frankly, these times when displays of abject rash stupidity are so frequent - it was a pleasure to spend an evening with the fine nobles of House Inverno. Count Donato is a man of good humor and temperament who seems to be steering his holding well, and the marriage of Lady Aisha to Lord Nikias seems a smart and fitting match for both. I shall say a prayer to Limerance for House Inverno's continued prosperity and aid in insofar as I can.

Relationship Note on Venturo

I don't think anyone would call me a merry individual, but Messere Venturo gets me as close to it as I'm able to come. The import of his Kismet Carnivals to Nilanza's growing prosperity, and the morale of the realm in general, cannot be over-stated. I salute Raconteur Brewing and the good messere himself as a pin that holds our Compact together by making us a little bit happier in these grim times.

There are times in one's life when the moral choice and the pragmatist's choice are clear as crystal.

I take this as a sign of Skald's sense of humor, for they are inevitably both awful in their unique ways.

Relationship Note on Belladonna

The Duchess of Setarco sets an excellent table. Gracious to her allies, cunning in the face of her enemies, she more than lives up to her reputation.

I'm very much enjoying the bottle of Black Tower Cordial I picked up at the opening of Grenaldo and Tiazza's. Messere Berto does good work, as relates to his liquors, at least. I'm not usually one for sweet drinks, but there's a crispness to this one that makes the bite entirely refreshing, and I ever have a weakness for citrus.

I continue to reflect on the concepts of fidelity and devotion, as they relate to my found family and the life I make for myself. The bounds they imply can seem soft things on the days when they are not being tested or called upon, as love can seem soft. And then, on other days, you realize how tightly they hold you. The demands are a weight of a thousand stone, the trust they signify is rather terrifying. They are the foundation of my life, though, and that which gives it some value I can build on. And so today I bow to Limerance again, in thanks for all I've been blessed with, and in prayer I've the strength to bear it and the road it takes me on.

Today I drank good wine with the King of the Compact, the Archlector of Death, a prince, and no less than six princesses (if at different times, and I may be missing one). I feel as if there's a joke of the 'such and such walk into a bar' persuasion to be made out of all that. I may tinker with such this week, see if I can find the right punchline. There is much I miss about living in the Lyceum, but the capital has its amusements some days.

A striking artist. Striking potential for many things, I think. Curious to see how she'll utilize it now.

Relationship Note on Bliss

I have no comment on the Graysons or their princes and/or Swords to share in the white reflections, particularly on matters of disputes which I did not witness. I know them not, save that the conduct the Royal house displays ever represents an example to the Peerage, and so I try to observe and learn.

I have some acquaintance with Bliss Whisper, however, and have found her to be a woman of honor, wit, and grace befitting her position as Softest. Further, she’s aided me in my own education on the virtues and obligations of Limerance in her role as a Devotion, to my own betterment. These are the things I know. I look forward to seeing the things I do not settled honorably and entertainingly, as I do love a good duel.

Entirely cheeky. Which is a compliment. Keeps things interesting. I love a good duel and thank my new kin for providing.

I have answered the recent recruiting call among the Lyceum and joined the Mirrorguard. It strikes me as a force ideal to combatting the unorthodox foes that increasingly threaten the Compact, and I hope my abilities at tactical analysis can be put to good use. Making the impossible possible seems a worthy endeavor.

Relationship Note on Lianne

My first impression of my new Marquessa and sister-by-vows was that she was a woman of formidable intelligence, ingenuity, and a particular sort of empathy removed from mawkishness that’s all too rare in this world. This impression keeps being proven correct, in ways that surprise me and make me feel rather foolish for being surprised. There is much we’ve yet to figure out, about our lands and of each other, but she gives me confidence we’ll find something worthy in it all.

Fortunato Grayhope and I have decided we're friends. This feels a thing worth noting, so I'm committing it to Vellichor. Brilliant artist, fascinating views on duality, seems a fine sort all in all.

Relationship Note on Haizea

One of my new kin-by-oaths. Mirrormask. I wonder what she sees in the reflections. She says she wishes to build and create, which will have much utility on Nilanza right now. We shall see what we make of each other in the days to come.

I've attended many a chariot race in my life but none quite like what I witnessed in the recent exhibition in this city. I think Princess Sabella won it by encouraging her mount with pure charm, rather than the whip or inspired trickery. Not a tactic that I suspect would've been seen on the tracks on Lenosia or Setarco, but most entertaining to watch. The courage displayed by all who took the course was also inspiring. It was a fine, fiery piece of home, celebrated in Arx.
