Relationship Note on Aldwin

I went to see the Dominus about joining the Faith. With all that I've experienced recently, it only seemed fitting to formalize my service to Petrichor, even if his Discipleship is one of the less organized. In any case, the man has long been a friend to our family and was exceptionally kind with me. Not only did he help see me quickly admitted to the Discipleship, but he also spent a fair bit of time tutoring me in various matters of theology and about the recent troubles. A most wonderful teacher.

Well, I didn't die.

I went with Princess Reese, Leola, Lady Khanne and some others recruited for the effort to search out the blight in the Gray forest. We found it, and signs, throughout the day, of the Nox'alfar playing tricks, having moved some markers Leola had left. The place itself was terribly desolate and quiet, with poor wretched, twisted trees and dirt like ash. I took samples of the soil, though the ones I tested there proved... less than fascinating. The dirt was dead, but there was no sign of a corrupting presence, toxin, or other substance in it. Our conclusion was that these are merely the places Brand traveled, draining the life with his passage, but no more. Beneath a certain depth the soil seemed unaffected, so things could be regrown.

The time it took us to travel there and back, however, was enough for the sun to set and the elves to descend upon us. We ran, or rode rather, which I hated, to flee them, and it was the most terrifying I have ever experienced. The sang riddles and taunts, had set traps for us, and one threw a dead bird at me, knocking me from my horse in fright and surprise, and another threw *spiders* in my face. It's fortunate I didn't pass out then and there. The others managed to... I don't know, keep a perimeter, and Leola helped me on her mount, and we rode off, though they showered us with arrows as we fled. I think everyone was hit in some way or another, myself in the hand, and Leola in her back. I've been tending to it, and it seems as though it will heal with full function, though you will forgive me if my handwriting is sloppy for this entry.

Princess Reese and others are making ready to go out and deal with blight in the forest, and I to go with them, though the plans have been... reined in, by Lady Calypso's proclaimation. I met with her to let her know what I do of the threat in the forest, and I was fortunate that she seemed to take my words very seriously. I may have to speak in front of the council at some point, she said, though perhaps it will be clear enough to all by then that it shall not be necessary. I am hopeful that our efforts will go well, and that no more lives are lost as have been in other recent excursions.

Relationship Note on Leola

Leola is one of the Paladins, like cousin Killian, though she serves Petrichor. Much like my cousin, she seems to dislike her title and the fame it brings her. I brought her to our home and showed her the black rose, and have sought her guidance in worship of Petrichor, as well as in more mundane agricultural matters. She is very kind, and I feel in her I will have an important mentor.

Relationship Note on Cara

A cousin of ours by marriage and perhaps in other esoteric ways (I am very bad at family trees). After hearing many speak of her and her new status, I got to see her again for the first time again at a ball the Graysons were holding. She was very pregnant but also very kind to me, even keeping her dog from troubling me. She helped introduce me to several people at the ball, a kindess for which I was quite grafetul.

Relationship Note on Aislin

My older sister Aislin is very much unlike me, a stoic and serious woman, and this is something I have come to understand evermore since I returned. She is weighed down by many burdens, by the knowledge of many secrets she has uncovered for the good of others. But beneath it, I think that her seriousness makes her all the more loving, that she is as serious about that as any other thing, and it reassures me whenever we speak.

Weeks ago, I wrote of the black rose I received at the new Temple of the First Choice. I planted the cutting, but feared over its progress for many days. This morning, though, when I went to check upon it, I saw the most wonderous thing: it had begin to properly root, to take hold of the earth and grow true. A part of me wishes to think of it like any other flower, to be happy simply for the blooming life... though another part also wonders what it means, given the legend I was told, how no one else had succeeded in growing such a flower. In any case, I am eager to tell others of this, including Brother Aleksei and the strange woman who gave me the cutting.

Relationship Note on Dafne

A somewhat odd girl I met in the bath house gardens, who turned out to be a Duchess and perhaps a former relative by marriage in some confusing fashion. It seems things can change very much in a short while, with her various relations giving up the title in quick succession until she remained to take it. I felt sympathetic for her, but realized my own situation is potentially not very different: I wish my siblings good health and long careers! We talked about plants and death, and apparently she writes... romantic fiction. Overall I liked her very much, save that she has a pet cat.

Last night, the most wonderful thing happened. Well, to some it might have appeared very odd: the Wolf altar in the Shine of the Lost vanished, replaced by a black rose. I went to see it - the rose more than the missing shrine, but by then, some... hole had oppened up, or something, and a whole new temple had been discovered, with the missing altar now within it. There was a rose there too, along with a number of people and a nice woman who was surprised that I had found another. She said they belonged to her more than 'him' (and perhaps, I ought ask my sister about this terminology?), and so they shouldn't all be in there, but we agreed the one could stay, which pleased me. A lot of other people came to see the temple, including my sister, and the woman gave me another rose from inside her bag. Aislin was worried I'd try and grow them everywhere, which is astute of her, and the other woman encouraged it, saying that an ancient Queen had once done the same. With a story like that, Aislin was happy to give me permission to grow them. I don't think brother will mind. In any case, I have put the black rose in water and I am gathering a few things to properly accomodate the effort, as I shall be extra careful planting the cutting.

Relationship Note on Killian

Apparently, he's my cousin. Well, obviously he's my cousin. I did not immediately recognize him, but that is hardly my fault. So far, I don't dislike the man. He's friendly and his company is enjoyable. It's lovely being surrounded by family.

The tourney was amazing. It astounded me how vicious warriors can be for no other reason than sport! In any case, no one was awfully hurt, and it gave me a chance to practice. I still wouldn't wish another any time soon.

My cousin. The last time I saw him, he was... well, let's just say it's good to see him again, and better to see him so hale and hearty. At least in body. The rest remains to be seen.

Relationship Note on Harlan

Bumped into my brother today. So wonderful to see a familiar beloved face. And he's exactly the same, it brought a twinge of homesickness that I'd managed to bury to the forefront of my mind! Still, it is good to have family about, and good to have someone so firmly on your side. He said wonderful things to Lady Dawn about me, and championed my cause to see the King.
