Relationship Note on Joscelin

Of course, it goes without saying - and I sincerely mean no disrespect to the invitations that you have received - but the right company should not require a drink to be able to enjoy it.

I'm certain you already know this. But perhaps things have changed even more than I've come to find.

A simple thought, on the subject of good dogs. I always wanted a dog - some hulking, foul smelling beast with fur and a penchant for jerky.

Dogs are always happy to see you, particularly when you come home after a long time away.

But the best things about dogs, of course, is that they do not have thumbs and therefore cannot throw things at you.

Mongoose, I encourage you not to despair over the writings of your owner. You are a good dog.

Tonight, I am led to wonder. What's the point of a homecoming if there's no home to come back to?

It came out perfect. I had help with the metal, but my contribution is there too - a true symbol of unity, or so I hope it will be perceived as such.

And while I'm not a deeply religious man, I went down to the shrine today to show Jayus the work that is meant for one of His truest and most devote followers. I didn't get struck down or anything, so I think that means I did okay.

Of course, the truest test is yet to come. Soon, I think. It has to be soon. I don't know if I can wait much longer, besides.

Sometimes, we all need a little reminder of what it is we're living for.

Relationship Note on Petal

Mistress Petal has one of the purest hearts I've ever seen in a person. I think that's important, to have a big heart and a desire to make a difference in the world. I think she's going to achieve much in her life, and I'm glad to know her.

I've seen a lot of weird shit in my day. Usually it was 'cause I was piss drunk and rum tends to do funny things to your vision when you've had a bit too much. But I was stone sober on the beach. And what I saw there was probably the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life.

But it was all for good, I think. The shrine looks even more beautiful than it did before. And I'm happy to be apart of it.

Give Her your best.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I've seen stunning work and fine craftsmanship before. But I've never seen work that's taken my breath away and left me speechless.

Until, of course, Joscelin took me to see the Five Paladins that hang now in the Jayus Gallery of Art.

All five of them were unique, interesting and spectacularly crafted. I know how hard she's worked on them, the time she poured into each one, and it was clearly worth it. She's outdone herself and it is truly magnificent.

The Tanned Hide's move a few blocks east of its original location went without incident. I suppose it is a testament to the fine craftmanship had by the members of the Crafters Guild that the construction went seamlessly and far ahead of schedule. The new shop is mostly the same, perhaps a touch bigger than the old one, but there's something particularly important about the new door that was installed in the back.

I've spent most of my teens and all of my adult life up to this point not having a place that I could call my own. Everything I had was added to the debt that I owed, and the man who held my contract never hesitated to remind me of that fact. I arrived in Arx with nothing but the clothes on my back and a set of ancient, rusted leather cutters to continue my trade with. Sameera gave me a room, which I will forever feel eternally greatful for.. but even then, it wasn't mine.

But I've new tools now, wrapped in a brand new leather case. These shears are so sharp, they've cut through the toughest hide I've got without a struggle. And that new door I mentioned in the back of the Tanned Hide? That door leads to home. And every time I go through there, I'm reminded of how far I've come to get to this point ... and that this home, this place in this city, with a hook on a rack specifically made for my cloak and a chest made just for me where I can put my things, and a space by the door where I can put my boots after a long day's work?

Well.. this home has something inside of it, that I can finally call mine own. And I think I've finally understood what people have meant when they say 'home is where the heart is'.

I've recently begun sewing again. Much like sculpting and painting, it was a hobby I took up during my travels to help pass the time. Usually I wasn't able to do much past bits of common cloth, but I've always found a certain kind of joy in creation of any types. I sew all my own clothes, of course, but I kept it to that until recently. Now, it seems there's something new in my life that's provided inspiration to push a little harder, strive for more, and open myself up to interesting and admittedly surprisingly exciting possibilities.

So, I took some sewing lessons and more recently completed a commission for a couple of sets of seasilk dresses. I was very pleased with the quality and the customer left my shop happy. I think I'll be taking on some more commissions of the kind, along with my leatherwork.

In spite of the fact that the City of Arx seems fairly dark with all the looming threats ... I have to admit. The future looks bright from here.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I recently escorted Joscelin Arterius on a trip outside of the city to deal with guild business, mostly because she failed to find herself a suitable guard to properly attend her on the trip. There are many things I learned about the Guildmaster along the way - one, is that in spite of her inability to say NO firmly and with distinction in order to avoid sticky situations, she is a shrewd businesswoman in her own right. At the bare minimum, she's earned herself a name that is very well respected and widely recognized. There is quite a bit more to her that is deserving of praise, despite the fact that she remains utterly stubborn and impossible to deal with at times.

She also has exceptionally good buns.

Did you know the Guildmaster was a baker, Scholar? Hm. Neither did I.

It never ceases to amaze me how unreasonable certain people can be. It's ever so easy to find insult in something when you always believe you are right.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I'm pleased that the Guildmaster and I could finally see eye-to-eye about the loan and interest. I imagine her change of heart had something to do with the present I left in her shop. From what I understand, she was so overjoyed to see herself depicted in wood that she shouted for at least twenty minutes at the scholars.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

You do not need to understand me, to understand that the money will be repaid. I am not even sure why this is still an argument, if the Guild 'always gets it's money back and then some'. All I will be doing is putting the money where your mouth is and making you good on your word.

Though I believe his Grace has the right of it. Except, I'll settle at 45%. The extra is for the angry scribbling.

And as a member of the Guild, I cannot sit idly by and take another's hard earned money without paying it back. And then some.

The first rule of business is to never make deals where you -lose- money.

The interest is set at ten percent. If you want to keep arguing, I'll keep raising the rate.

It's not about your generosity and I'm not sorry if your pride was wounded.

The loan will be paid back. With interest. Whether you want it to or not.
