Tonight, we go to face a demon of might and power second only to the likes of Brand himself. He knows we are coming, so no point in hiding it. We will either stand victorious, with all the dead avenged..Or we will all be dead for nothing, and many, many more will suffer.
To all those I have promised not to go off and die? I hope you understand why I have to do this.
To all those depending on me to help lead the Knights in the final battle? I hope you forgive me for why I must take this risk.
To the woman who I made a promise to always be there to....I hope you will be able to forgive me for this. I know you understand, but that's not the same.

I was at the gate when they arrived. I can confirm the flag and letter of truce /did/ appear to be leathery in texture. Credit where awful, monstrous credit is due.

I was actually /at/ the wall when the Shavs brought forth the message, and the urge to riddle the shavs with arrows as my response was nearly overwhelming. But they were flying a flag of truce, and it wouldn't have made a difference in the ultimate attack, a few shavs more or less.
I cannot speak for the rest of the Faith or the Compact, but the response for the Knights of Solace is this:
We are the Knights of Solace
Vellichor guides our minds
Gloria powers our arms
Lagoma lights our hearts
Gild shows us the true path
Death is only the next step in the Wheel
We are the shield of the Compact

What I say now, I say not as a knight-commander, or event a Knight of Solace. I speak as a citizen of arx.
So many fling insults back and forth, and while I know in my deepest of hearts that the words of Father Orazio ring true, I wonder if not a more reasoned approach is good for discussing this.
I think anyone of sane mind can agree that using plague as a weapon is a horrible crime. Amd that this was done, it seems, by the fleet commander and ruling family member of Thrax, Abbas.
So far, many have said, "It was not me, do not paint us in the same brush". Perhaps that is fair. But frustration exists while there is no Thraxian condemnation of his actions. Is that an action they have planned? Are not all Thraxian fealty ships under abbas' command, and thus took part in this, indirectly or no?
What is the Thraxian stance on this? What are their words, other than to hiss back at us, a response I can understand? Are you content with your prince's actions? Are you planning your own justice, as may be your right? I am no master of law, I leave that to more expansive heads than my own. But I would hear them plainly say what their plan is, since this was an event that concerns the death of thousands of unarmed or innocent souls, and is thus a matter for all to hear? Before judgment be thrown down, let us hear more of what they have to say.

I find solace (no pun intended) in prayers to the Gods. To seek out the wisdom and teaching of the paragons you serve is a fine thing, after all.
But tonight? I hope they will forgive my saying that sitting and singing horribly out-of-tune lyrics with Dame Serafine and Miss Leta was perhaps the best therapy I have had since the Incident.

What an utter disaster of a day, in retrospect. Found out that two of the Grayson's prized and trusted Knights were Bringers in disguise. They were exposed by Killian though, and they, plus another one among the refugees, were swiftly hunted down and slain by myself, Killian, Aislin, Agnarr, and a fellow who's name I never actually caught. Looked a bit disreputable, dropped his sword, I think. But whatever his name, he fought the good fight, and I am grateful.
Also, that is the most idiotic thing I have ever done with my hammer. I don't care if it worked. The Gods were merciful this day.

I wandered into a bar, yelled at the staff, 'saved' a princess, kicked a bouncer, and got vomit on my shoes. Is...Is this what it's like being a normal young person? It is very strange, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. The fact that it was greatly amusing makes me wonder if I should be praying more.

Relationship Note on Aleksei
I will admit, there was a small, unworthy part of me that dearly wanted to just hop over the handrail and punch Aleksei in the face after he swore at Father Orazio. But for all of that? He fought well at the docks. Took a hit and kept right on going, watched my back and Mathias' without question or hesitation. Whatever other faults he may possess? He has my respect for that. Actions speak so much louder than words.

Fought at the docks, along with many, many others. Lost a few knights there, and in the city.
First men I've lost that died near me and I didn't know their names even at the time. That isn't normal for me, but something I was told by Maude to get used to. 'One of the issues with higher command', she calls it. Well, I suppose that is true...
And we did stop them. Stopped them from completely destroying the docks, although we lost enough. Kept them from getting into the Pit, although that took Gisele and a lot of luck and the blessings of Vellichor. Now I'm working with Maude and her men to cap the hole with something temporary, like a wooden plug with a door. Easier to block a door than a whole Pit, if they try sneaking in again.
But the enemy is close now. Time to prepare the defenses, make them tight, and make myself ready for that...and Brunch? This is a weird city.

Relationship Note on Gisele
Rarely do I feel the urge to place ink to vellum in the records, public or otherwise. No, usually my talents lie in other directions. I read them often, both as a duty (to keep abreast of things in the city and beyond), and as a hobby (because seeing nobles and my commoners fret and bicker with each other is amusing to me). But today? I feel I must speak.
When I met Gisele, she was making a trek through all the Shrines of Arx, hoping to pay respects at them all. While this is a noble thing, it is not what captured my attention. Nor was it her beauty or her grace or even her intelligence. All of these things can be found in abundance in Arx, as excellent as they can be to see in a person, especially all at once.
No, it was her humility. Her openness, tinted with an attitude of shyness that shows how hard such a thing is for her at times. She is a person willing to give all in service to her city and her people, no matter the cost, and no matter if she never picks up a weapon, or raises a fist (or even her voice).
Aldwin is lucky to have her in his family. The Faith is lucky to have her as a Disciple. I am blessed to call her my friend.

I hear my newest recruit won the Golden Hart Tournament, and with flying colors, while flying /our/ colors! Well, couldn't make an aging knight happier there, you damn project from the Lowers. You did us proud, and will continue to do so, I imagine.
Now use the prestige to get your ass into the Champions and earn a proper paycheck so you can spruce up your gear, I hate continuing to have to pay for it.

Never does anyone who has seen a real battlefield yearn to see another, but here we are. Not because we desire it, but because it is /necessary/. Necessary to fight, and die, and slay men by the thousands, because our faith demands it. Common sense demands it. The Gods demand it. And survival demands it.
Keep this fact close to your chest, those who are left behind in Arx. That this...All of this? It is necessary for all to do their part, including those who will not return. There will be many of those, perhaps including me. That too, might be necessary.
