Relationship Note on Jordan

Sir Jordan was a good man. A smart one, too. Wise for his age. The Compact has lost itself a good one, but he died well if what I hear is true.

We are all better for having known him.

I am glad to hear you have returned. You shall have to visit with your father while he recovers from his wounds...

...and bring him plenty of whiskey.

The Lodge and those that reside in it (be they flora or fauna) are safe. Many lives are lost. While I haunt (for I imagine that is what my family will call it in the coming days) the Halfshav Hall during my recovery from my injuries in the coming days, I will be personally penning letters and entertaining the families of the many men and women in my personal army who fell on that field. They all stood bravely, to a man. In the face of something most could never have imagined, they stood strong and fought well. They did more than anyone could ask.

Who signs up for a military expecting to fight the very land they walk upon? Death risen from the earth? Wolves twisted with evil?

And yet they did. All of them.

None of the other commanders fell. Nor did any of my family line in their own ventures in the protection of the Lodge. However, I did hear that Sir Jordan lost his life. He is a young man who I have only come to know relatively recently, but was someone I could have imagined great things ahead of.

Perhaps I should see to having a new cup made just for this upcoming whiskey tasting.

Something appropriately ostentatious.

It would seem my statements on popularity are being misconstrued.

People are backing Bliss Whisper merely because she is popular and she is abusing that popularity and her friendships. Again, if it were not for that popularity... I doubt the majority of you supporting her would care. If a random commoner had gone through the same circumstances, this matter would never have made it to the proclamations nor be discussed at length. Not because of 'noble abuse' or similar (such adorable attempt to throw that around; please remember what my House is), but because they would not be someone you throw yourself at the feet of on a regular basis.

All I am saying is to take a very big step back and look at the situation and ask: if it were anyone else, would you care so vehemently? Because I do not think you would. And that there is where I take the most umbrage with the situation at hand.

It has been made abundantly clear that House Telmar is not trying to weasel its way out of making amends for the traitor's actions. They just do not wish to give up a very important heirloom and part of their history and identity that was not his to give away in the first place and an intelligent person who has appropriate understanding of diplomacy would respect this and accept at least one of the alternatives that has been put forth.

I find it strange to twist logic and words to defend the actions of a traitor to get one's way. To couch it all in 'honor' or that the traitor's own House 'must' suffer to meet this honor.

What I find myself wondering most in the wake of all of this: were the one making all of these demands not as popular a figure in the Compact as they are, would so many not be rallying to her cry? If it were some relatively unknown upstart in Whisper House, I imagine that all and sundry would have just waved their hand and agreed already with what is known. The Sword belongs to the House. It is carried by the one it is given to as a place of honor and respect, but it is not theirs to give away.

I think we can all agree that the bet should not have been made in the first place, but the Whisper in question should not have taken the bet and it makes me suspect that this was a plan to take the sword all along. Especially when paired with the other patently ridiculous demands and this ludicrous display put in the proclamations where it does not belong.

My sisters are alive and well in Whitehold. Many of their children are in Arx. My brother is no longer with us, but his children, too, are here in Arx and thriving.

And I know he would be very proud of them. I know I am.

Even when they are putting utterly ridiculous things in the whites.

I do not mind this.

I think maybe I shall begin a campaign for the next beard competition.

I will need someone to spread the word of how great my beard is.

The work being done on this township around the Shrine to Mangata is to be commended. The dedication and effort being put into this project helps show how close the spirits and Faith are in our lands and how far Halfshav has come.

When I was a boy, I had a friend named Piet. He was the son of a goatherd, with a good heart but not very smart. Piet and his father tended goats for their whole village, more than sixty of the beasts, and Piet was always fond of his charges. Used to tell me how he wished the goats could run free.

One day his father was ill and Piet tended to the goats alone. He saw his opportunity and set the herd free. He came home alone and proudly told everyone what he did.

Unfortunately, that was not the end of Piet's tale. The villagers lost their source of milk and cheese, and many grew weak. The goats multiplied rapidly and crowded out the local deer and elk herds. Some goats took to the fields and began eating the crops. The only ones who be benefited were the wolves, who grew fat and numerous from an abundance of easy prey.

And Piet, the poor lad, the angry villagers beat the snot out of him and put him in stocks for a week.
