Relationship Note on Eddard

To clarify my Nephew's last journal:

No Clement has ever said that.

I haven't the faintest idea why he would. I think someone has been away from the farm too long.

Relationship Note on Amari

Please don't walk about the city daring people to hit you.

My hair is gray enough.

I feel that I can speak very poorly to the matter of honor at the moment. A few months ago I stained mine beyond, I fear, any repair. Lord Braden Laurent's actions have stained them even more.

It was I that knighted him. I saw potential in the young man. I fear that potential has not panned out. While he has achieved a measure of talent and success with his sword, he has not lived up to the ideal of Knighthood which I adhere to.

I live in agony at the moment, and I appologize.

Just to be clear - I have no intention of dying at any point in the near future. Nor giving up Queensguard.

I found a set of small cloak pendants at a shop today when I passed through, and purchased all of them. I then passed them along. From the confused messengers I received in return I find that I must gift things more often so it is not seem so strange.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

I am well aware of proper handwashing procedure. It does not satisfy when one's hands are dry with ink however. Doing something of substance does.

Relationship Note on Iliana

It is easy on the battlefield to spot the true commanders from the general masses. They are the ones running toward the problem shouting sensible things and not just screaming incoherently.

Marquessa Iliana Leary is one of those.

Relationship Note on Olivia

I do my best to never underestimate a physician, and I do not intend to begin with Lady Olivia.

To run through a shower of arrows is no small effort. To run though them and then heal the wounded without a moment of complaint even less.

A warrior's job is easy in comparison. If done right it is finished quickly. A healer must continue long after.

Relationship Note on Gawain

I never had much contact with Lord Gawain before the scuffle before Cristoph's agriculture college. Judging from that single event, I can only think well of the man. He was cool under pressure, and effective. Moreover he was able to save that young Josiah before the boy could get himself killed. That was masterfully done.

I hear that Josiah has sworn to follow Lord Gawain home. May that go well.

Relationship Note on Amari

I tease my squire, Lady Amari Keaton, much too often about shooting me when she was just beginning.

The truth is that I am proud beyond words of her. She has gained in her expertise immensely and has the most important marker of a soldier: Grit. She will rise from anything that is dealt to her.

Relationship Note on Cassandra

It has been years since I last rode to battle alongside Cassandra. She was my better at war then, never mind that I was then years her senior.

She remains my better in all ways, and I am only grateful to have known her before to see the force she had become of herself and her faith.

I am not fond of bandits. I spoke this to myself as we returned and A youngster heard. They called out, "Yeah! Bandits suck!"

That, I believe, is quite fitting.

Yes, I did attend the masquerade. No, I did not wear a mask. Times have been too unsettled lately for me to feel comfortable donning something which might obscure my vision.

Perhaps that is all just an excuse though. I found myself in a poor temper that night. Margeire makes such social gatherings more bearable, but her work tool her away that evening.

I will attempt to do better for the next party. I very much have been told off soundly for my rudeness.

That said, the individuals who attempted to pluck the flowers? I am not at all repentant about telling you off. Really, who goes into another man's garden and picks flowers? Barbaric.

Relationship Note on Adalyn

My daughter is very correct and I have no shame in admitting this.

I will confront hundreds of human foes over the prospect of another mythical beast that should remain in the stories we tell our children to get them to obey.

The centipedes were enough for me for an entire lifetime, and they were only the most recent nightmare before my sword.

There is a single reason why Margerie should lead conversations at dinner. I believe tonight showed this quite blatantly.

I was asked by someone earlier this week what justice was, or at least, that is what I recall the most from the conversation. It seemed to me that there was an implication that justice might be a subjective term.

I am inclined to think that justice is not subjective. I believe that justice is determined by the law. If a law is broken, than that same law should define the justice meted out to the breaker. To use any other metric for justice seems to open the door to vigilante justice.

Thus is my shame. I have taken justice into my own hands, and the cost is almost more than I can bear.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

It took me becoming a baron for me to realize how very often Duke Cristoph is not fully in fighting trim.

I am not sure how I managed to miss this as he was growing up. Perhaps it was the way in which I was introduced to his family. I always assumed Jael was the one prone to misadventures.

I know differently now.

What commentary does it make that I feel that hunting those who would wish Duskshire, Laurent, and Keaton ill is easier than some of this paperwork?

I do believe I need to get Eddard to sit down a shift though it. Perhaps his flighty eyes might see where I have muddled the details this time.

I don't wish for injury and death, but this paperwork might just be more dangerous than the sword.
