Plans are made, resources are budgeted, things are proceeding. It is nice to see one's work bear fruit.

Relationship Note on Cambria

The problem with "The One" is that it implies that it is "The Right One" or "The Perfect One". That sounds like a great deal of pressure on one, and perhaps one could confuse "The Worst One" or "The Wrong One" for it, simply because different emotions might be brought out to bear. As for me, it sounds like a lot of pressure and a lot of disappointment when expectations are not met. An equilibrium between what fulfills your obligation to rank and family and what brings you some measure of joy is what I think should be sought.

Thank everyone who attended or donated to the Heart in Hand's latest event. Big things are coming, but congratulations to Countess Aella for winning the raffle! Granted... she did buy a third of the tickets.

Relationship Note on Beaumont

What a thoroughly unexpected and gratifying delight to see my brother again. No one should tell him how much I missed him and how happy I've been to see him again. No, no. Just tell him he's less charming and less attractive than me.

A whirr of activity this time, scholars. Function after function. And once one is done, it's onto the next. But if one stops or stalls, one might lose momentum and that's when you slip and fall. The feast was great, though I wish more of the different fealties attended to experience the food from our great Oathlands. Perhaps next time. Now the important question remains, what to become for the masquerade?

Dear scholars, I held an event at the Gauntlet last night. Lady Shyanne did better than just about anyone I'd seen. In fact, the whole first group did exceptionally well between her, Lady Adalyn, Prince Raimon and Count Drake. The second group... perhaps it is best if I keep their names concealed. They were a lot more amusing to watch, particularly since they did about as well as I do. To those three who might know who they are... your determination was the real winner of the Gauntlet.

Princess Donella Redrain held a concert benefitting Heart in Hand a couple days ago. The music was beautiful, the message was beautiful, dear scholar. We will run more events soon, individually or as a whole, and hopefully in tandem with other groups and organizations to support any number of causes to bring hope to those who need it.

Dear scholar, if you ever believe that your actions are worthless, that nothing you do will change what is, no matter how much you want it. Determination and dedication are still worthwhile. A bucket can be filled one drop of water at a time. It is not the fastest way to accomplish your goals, but even this way will one day succeed. And who knows, perhaps a rain will come to help you out.

My to-do list has grown very long. Most imminent on my mind is the Valardin feast in a month. It is bound to be a lot of fun, so I hope people will come. I think I shall host a smaller picnic soon for people to come and run the Gauntlet for bragging rights. I wonder who might show?

Relationship Note on Malcolm

Duke Shepherd became my patron recently. I find his personality thoroughly enjoyable and he is just the sort of person one always wants to be friends with. Indeed, his Lordship gifted me one of his dogs, my little (but also very big) jewel, Bijou. She is well trained already, for she doesn't even nip at Sophia when the little girl decides to try to pull ears or tails or even ride her. But now, what to do for Duke Shepherd as an answering gift. Hmmm....

The past two weeks have been filled with renewed acquaintances, friendships, and a further desire ignited to do good works for those that need it. I hope to be up to the challenge. My to-do list grows longer and longer.

I have been removed from the social circles of Arx, and certain responsibilities for some time, so that I might focus on the rearing of our beloved daughter, Sophia. She is growing so fast, and I can hardly believe it has been almost four years since she was born. She has grown into quite an inquisitive thing, toddling around here and there, wanting to know all there is about the world. Her imagination amazes me at times, and it is curious to watch how she grows and learns. I cannot help but marvel, still: We made a tiny person. And she is becoming more so each day; an independent, inquisitive, imaginative little person. It is such a delicate time in a child's development, I felt that I must devote more time to her growth and burgeoning curiosity of the world. She enjoys the stories of knights and chivalry, but also the more fantastic tales of mythical creatures. She can find wonder in the smallest of things, and make up stories about them that sometimes amaze me. I have begun to keep a small journal of the stories she comes up with, and one day, when she is older, I will show it to her. I am sure she will laugh at some of the silliness of it all. It certainly brings me joy.

Now, however, I feel the pull of duty once again as the Compact faces its challenges, and so I must find a balance between the rearing of the Heir to the Telmarch, and the duties I can no longer set aside. I left her in the care of Elaine as I ventured out this afternoon into the snow, to tend to some matters. While out and about in the city, I paused by the Ambassador Salon which, apparently, has gone somewhat out of fashion, for reasons I do not know. Still, many came and went, and conversations were shared. It was pleasant to be among my peers once again, and to share in a drink and a laugh.

I look forward to returning to the social scene, to offer what help I may in these trying times.

There is no more true or steadfast companion than my dear Sophie. Though she may be younger than me, she is wiser by far. She is truly blessed by the gods and I am truly blessed to call her my sister.

Duke Arn Telmar was rarely approving or kind in his demeanor and words, but when I joined House Telmar, he welcomed me. For a brief moment, I was an orphan who had again found a father. I shall always remember him so.

The matter between House Telmar and Bliss Whisper is currently being mediated by the Faith. The recklessness with which this matter has been discussed demonstrates a profound lack of grace. Examine yourselves carefully before committing more ink to the archives before this situation has been resolved. The gods bear witness to your words... along with everyone else.

Reports from the Lodge have been both hopeful and grim in equal measure. I have begun to prepare for the task of writing letters to those families beholden to House Valardin that have lost loved ones in this war. Sir Daemon Dracone's loss was difficult to read, as I am fond of his gracious patron and know that he will be greatly missed. Thank the gods that Prince Caius Valardin still breathes. I will include him in my prayers while he remains in the care of the Mercies. I also thank the gods that my sister, Sophie, is safe; the Mother Mercy's devotion to her service knows no bounds, even unto the perilous fray. May the gods grant their protection to those righteous souls who fight for those of us who cannot.

These last few weeks have been strange in many ways, but I would be remiss if I did not offer House Telmar my sincere praise and thanks for how warm and welcoming that they've been to me. I confess that one of the little stumbling blocks that married life has thrown into my path is the inability to correctly sign my own name. As with many things, it will take some time to adjust to my new circumstances.

It feels as though entries into White Journals are no longer a sacred act of devotion to Vellichor, but merely another avenue to the court of public opinion on matters they know little to nothing of fact. I will keep my thoughts on recent events and happenings confined to my Black Journal and pray to the gods for guidance.
