Disappointed that I missed out on Ida's hairpins honoring Death, though I confess that I snapped up a beautiful collection of gowns for my sisters at Whispering Words. It is lovely to see so many elements honoring the Mother about the city of late.

Always new things to learn and do. Blessed Lagoma but we do live interesting times.

Things were smashed, sworn at and temper tantrums had during Lady Monique's redhead rebellion. It was delightful fun over all. The destruction wonderfully cathartic.

I made it to the semi-finals of the Grand Melee, at least, though Duke Grimhall almost had me in the preliminary bouts, and I didn't last long in the main field. It's going to be a painful few weeks while everything heals, but, at least I tried. It would have been nice if Gloria had seen fit to allow victory, but I also cannot blame Her for not favoring a Harrow.

The Joust was an entertaining bout, though I had the misfortune of coming up against Violet's Harlex in the first round. Of the two of us, the man is definitely the more skilled, and it was an honor to come up against him.

Decided to take some time and attend the taste of Valardin recently. Competed in the jousting, though I was ousted in the first round by our beloved Ribbons. If I ever fear my ego growing too large, I need only face this pink whirlwind to remind myself that there is a lot of work still to be done.

A boat. What was I thinking? I'll grant it that it is a large and solid looking vessel... but that never prevents my stomach and I from wanting to part ways when they are in motion.

The first free human kingdom of Arvum was founded by those who had fled slavery in the East. Freed from their bonds by the Great Lone Wolf, also known as Skald. And by those who remember those times, humanity is considered to be the Children of the First Choice.

The legacy of our history, and our freedom, extends further than the Reckoning, and has been fought and paid for in blood for more generations than most of us realize.

Let us not disgrace our collective history by submitting to slavery now.

The path ahead will not be easy, but at least when we return to the Wheel we can hold our heads up high and tell Death Herself that we lived free.

Mother, let me not fear Your embrace, but come to You in the fullness of time, with peace in my heart.

Five years ago, we had fighting in the streets when Everard Telmar and his conspirators were being arrested.

Four years ago, we were besieged.

Almost two years ago, we fought at Stormwall and Setarco.

Months ago, we protected the Lodge.

In each, the Compact lost people, in some, a great many people, trying to hold strong against external forces and conspiracies.

In dealing with these conspirators masquerading as scholars, only two lives were lost among those protecting the Compact.

And those conspirators were responsible for the death of tens of thousands, across generations. They were responsible, at least in part, for the death of Copper. While the weight of those deaths will never leave those who brought them, they also saved lives, and help removed a threat looking to take advantage of our other troubles.

My grandpa Stone had many sayings, most of which as a child I found aggravating.

'There's no point in crying over spilt milk', was a favorite. It was one that lingered with me, simply because my young self couldn't imagine a life where milk was so plentiful, that it's loss wasn't something to mourn.

I was a grown woman before I understood that it wasn't about the loss of the milk itself, but a lesson on how to deal with adversity.

There was no point in crying over the milk, because it had already happened. Even if you could scoop it back up and stick it in a bottle, it would no longer be fit to use. But if you were too busy crying over its loss, you were going to lose anything that remained. That if we were too paralyzed by grief to react, the loss would be worse than simply righting the bottle and saving what could be saved.

There's a lot of crying and finger pointing going on right now. There's been a lot of tragic and unnecessary loss of life. These things are worth our respect and acknowledgment, but what will define all of us, is how we respond. Not just to what is happening within the Compact, but with regards to these strangers sitting on our proverbial doorstep. While passions, and anger, run high, and not without due cause, picking up that bottle is a necessary act, lest an unfriendly hand tip the rest of the milk out while we're consumed with our grief.

The first free human kingdom of Arvum was formed alongside the Twilight Court of the Nox'alfar thousands of years before the Reckoning, in part to escape slavery in Caer'alfar.

This portion of our history may have been forgotten for many lifetimes, but let us not sacrifice our freedom to bow to the yoke of a foreign power.

A gilded cage is still a cage.

Thank you lady Telmar for running the Winter Gauntlet, I was honored to compete, and this beautiful sword crafted by Dame Ida will serve me well, I have no doubt.

Also congratulations to Baron Farwatch and Master Valtyr on their wins, too. A great day all the way around and a much better personal showing than when I competed in 1008.

Tonight I went to the Whitehawk fair, I drank, and, gods have mercy on the audience, I sang. Apparently I came third place, though in earnest I think that the Archlector of Limerance did better than I.

I'm not going to complain about a prize of a cloak of the deepest, blackest silk, lined in a purple itself bruised almost black. An elegant piece that I will no doubt heartbreakingly ruin at some point in the future, but I fell in love with it when I realized that under some lights it appears that the material is patterned with bats, bats of all things!

Perhaps it is meant, instead, as a gift for Her. I shall have to think on it.

Later on my raffle ticket was drawn, and although there were many beautiful pieces available, there was only one opportunity that seemed appropriate.

Thank you for your kind words, they mean much to me.

Attended the songs of Gold and Brass the other day, it was very interesting. Princess Sorrel has a beautiful voice and presented the information in particularly interesting fashion, but it was also curious to see the little bits that other people contributed.

All in all, a very interesting night.

Words passed on to me by an old soldier haunt my thoughts tonight, a poem known as 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyons. I share it in part, an ode to the honored dead.

They will not grow old,
As we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

It was an honor to ride patrol with the mixed luminaries that I accompanied at Marquis Deepwood's invitation and I applaud their stalwart hearts. My gratitude also to the person or persons whose prayers helped bolster us. There is always more to do, but my respect for you all.
