Relationship Note on Norwood
After years of berating me to take my riding lessons more seriously, I've spent the few months riding with Baron Norwood and reading the many manuals he's shoved underneath my door. I may not have unhorsed him this time, but that I got close enough in the lists to even compete against him is honor enough.

It's been a long time since we've hosted a party that was quite that large. But it was definitely well worth the time and effort. It was a bright light before what I suspect is going to be a very dark period. I have a few things that I'm looking forward to in the future, but I don't know that I can say they outweigh all of the things that I'm dreading.

I think you'd be very satisfied with the chariot race today. Not only did I not fall out of the chariot and get trampled by the horses, I also won. Which was surprising because the competition was quite steep.

With a few notable exceptions, Oathlanders aren't typically known for their vast nautical knowledge. I personally have never seen a boat once in my entire life. I've never stepped foot on one. In fact, I don't know the difference between boat and ship.
I was very glad to see Archduchess Jaenelle at the most recent Valardin dinner. I left feeling much more educated on the subject. I can confidently say that I could probably launch an entire fleet of these boats she described.

I was told rather specifically recently that I wasn't supposed to take all of the responsibility and guilt for this upon myself. But I'm not sure that I can stop myself from going over it in my mind and wondering where I could have done better. Where I could have been more alert and seen this coming before it happened? It's hard to look at my family and see all of the pain that they're enduring and not feel as if I've been negligent. How did I not see this betrayal coming before it happened? Is it possible I was that completely blind the entire time?

The journey of marriage can be like a maze. A complicated and miserable one if you don't have the right partner alongside you to help navigate the many twists, turns, and dead ends that you'll face together. I don't think that I could have asked for a better wife than Nicia when we married. Intelligent, sharp like a razor and prepared to use that in her support of myself and our House. She was a partner and a friend. I'm going to miss more things about her than I can possibly ever name. And I don't know how I'm going to go about raising our children without her there, the only person to know them as well as I know them. To love them as I love them. It hurts to even think about.

I looked up from my work today and realized that I have a birthday tomorrow. I'd make some comment about how I feel old and aging but that's not really true. I don't feel old and I guess maybe I'm aging but it's only the form of a couple of stray gray hairs that are beginning to appear my temples. And laugh lines I suppose and maybe some other lines. Anyway, the point is that I don't FEEL old.
