Relationship Note on Dominic

I am no archlector of Petrichor, and thus cannot speak over a proper priest of that august God, but to me? The home is wherever your heart feels at peace, where you can rest in the comfort of the familiar and the things and people dear to you.

If that's a boat? then by the Gods, that's your home.

Because I have different jokes ready for either option.

that was, without a doubt, the absolute strangest thing I have had happen to me in a /long/ time. Perhaps ever.

To all those who supported me? Thank you. You are too many to write back individually, so thank you, all of you. seriously.

Now I'm going to go drink. A lot.

This Mercenary-General is as greedy, merciless, and loud-mouthed as most of his breed. I know little of him otherwise, having only seen him at the Battle for Seawatch Gate.

But he does have an incredible hat.

If I see a hug circle at the next Assembly meeting, I'll eat my hat.

Not that I have a hat. But I'll buy a hat. and then eat it.

Relationship Note on Driskell

I may disagree with a /lot/ of what this man writes about (aside from his recipes, they are delicious), but any man that publicly asks for courting women for his liege? Has a pair of brass ones hanging down there. I might kill him, if I was his lord, but brass nonetheless.

I have made no secret of my actions in the immediate aftermath of the final battle against the Silent Army, and I have no intentions to. They were an enemy that had come to destroy us, and we had no evidence that they would not continue to do so, once their lethargy had worn off. I did not pursue those that fled, nor kill those who surrendered.

However, this does not translate to a hatred of all Abandoned. For every Abandoned that I have met in my travels who wanted to kill me or my charges, I have met dozens or more who were peaceful, caring people who would have done well in the Compact, if not for their Choices. and is that not what we are to respect, through Skald, he of the First Choice? I even picked up a couple of their languages, through helpful instruction. I have seen their rituals, their foibles and their strengths. I support any and all efforts to protect them from any 'retribution' that might be sought against them, and any of my men I find engaging in such activity would be put to extreme punishment, up to and including death, depending on the severity of their crime.

But more than that, we are going to need their assistance. As Lord Mydas says, we must be careful how we go about it, but in pure, brutal terms? More shit is coming. Evil forces, and horrible, driven men who will stop at nothing to ruin all we have created. This war was just the first of many, and we lost so many men. Almost a third of my own forces slain in the final battle. We cannot sustain such a campaign and survive, we /need/ the Abandoned. Not just to protect them, not just because it is the Right thing to do...But because they will be needed to help protect us. So that all may survive.

It just so happens I can read that 'chicken scratch', and I must say, I am sensing, given the informaturn presented, a great deal of angst and attention-seeking that could be handled in private messengers and black journals to be released to the proper parties.

also a great deal of 'I am 16 and angry at my parents' sounding talk.

I would advise letting Archlector Aleksei speak about the incident in question (whatever in the abyss it actually is) before passing judgment. To deny aid based on place of birth is contrary to the precepts of both the Pantheon in general, and Gild in particular, and I can assure you it is /not/ our position as a whole.

I support Brother Aleksei as a person and example of the Faith, and presume this is likely a misunderstanding that will be soon corrected.

When the battle ended, I ordered my men to assault the stunned and wavering enemy.

This is not a decision I feel pride in, are you insane?

But I stand by it as the reasonable, logical decision. For all we knew, this enemy would, after shaking it off, attack us again, their numbers still enough to kill many thousands more of the Compact. I did not pursue those that fled. I did my duty. All this talk of 'writs' and 'innocence'?

Innocence is, for the most part, an illusion or an excuse. Writs? I would question people who speak so openly about such forbidden subjects. Thoroughly. But to this knight? They were enemies. Enemies who tried to end the world. I stand by my decision as I fought my way toward where my men were hanging on poles in the enemy camps. When people balk at my actions? I point to their corpses. Those people who you define as innocent? Did that, willing or not.

We won.

And yes, that is glorious, and righteous, and all the words that pretty bards will begin to ascribe to it as the days pass.

But will they speak of brother Sigvald, who died with shav arrows in his throat before the battle even truly began?

Will they speak of disciple Dorath, who died defending the body of his slain cousin Perrin, despite orders to keep to the line?

Unlikely. They will not relate faces melting before the blow of a club, or of the choking screams of the dying. Those things are not for bards. They are for soldiers.

We won. And that is as it must be, and how the Gods will it. And it is well. But fifteen hundred of my knights will never see another dawn, and ten thousand of the Compact soldiers. As we celebrate? Lift your glass to those thousands of small moments, lost to the bards. But never to us.

Relationship Note on Lark

Surprisingly calm and rational princess, even if she did take delight in using turns of phrase to embarrass the abyss out of me for parts of the conversation. She is far more practical than many nobles I have met, and honestly, I think she was just grateful I wasn't trying to get into her pants. Skirt. Whatever she was wearing, I honestly don't remember. Point is, I think she will be a fine ally, once the siege is over and things can return to normal.

**From the desk of Armel Godsworn (real surname unknown), Grandmaster, Knights of Solace**

For a thousand years, the Knights of Solace have stood as guardians of the people, as shields of the faith, and as a byword for honor, duty, and sacrifice. And now, as the enemy finally closes in around us and prepares for the final assault? That has not changed an inch. Our honor will never bend, our duty will never waver, and we will make whatever sacrifice is necessary to defend the people of Arx.

My place is at the Seawatch gate, where I and fifteen hundred of my men will stand, ready to accept the hammerblow of the enemy with raised shields and defiance unto our last breath. Even if every one of the Silver Order should fall, we will consider it a small price to pay to preserve the life of those behind us.

For that is our oath. That as long as one innocent soul is in our charge, no price is too high. With our brothers and sisters of the Compact, we stand. With the proud warriors of every nation, creed, and faith, we stand. Together, we shall raise a shout that will echo throughout the heavens themselves.

Next to that? Brand will be nothing more than a whisper crashing forward to break upon the rocks.

See you on the other side, everyone. Let's bleed this bastard dry.

**From the desk of Armel Godsworn (real surname unknown), Grandmaster, KoS**

So I'm the Grandmaster of the Knights of Solace...

Damn, I never expected this....Well, that is a lie, actually. There were moments when I wondered, when I was chosen to be Knight-commander. That alone is a duty and privilege that very few in our order achieve, a mere handful to the several thousand in our Order. But I did think I had years, maybe even a decade or more before it would even be a question. Plenty of time to learn the things a Grandmaster has to learn. The things that are expected of a man who now has to interface directly with the Lords and Powers of the Compact on a daily basis.

Etiquette. Diplomacy. Empathy and tact. Gods, they are in for some trouble. Thankfully, I have met some, like Lady-General Calypso and Lady Aislin, who are leaders of similar mind, and I am proud to have such good allies in this struggle.

After the siege...After the siege, I'll puzzle it out. When we aren't all dead.

And find a good assistant.

Relationship Note on Eirene

A hard woman, with a hard job, and a hard outlook on life. She takes no crap from anyone, and less from her enemies. She fights harder than any two people I know to further her cause and the protection of Arvum. She is grumpy, opinionated, easily irritated, and fierce.

I really look forward to working with her.

(From the Journal of Sir Armel Godsworn, Knight-Commander, Knights of Solace)

**written in decently-penned Northlands Shav**

Met a giant of a Shav today in his shop, and he was something to behold. He seemed a pleasant man, for all his gruffness. His appreciation for Princess Reese was heartwarming, and his offer of help making a sympathy gift for a friend of mine was very pleasant. I look forward to speaking to him more in the future. As long as he behaves.

As I lay here, my back ten kinds of messed up, I sit back and think about this latest night of terror and pain and misery and hope and revenge. A tangled mess, to be sure. And while I have given my praise to the Gods while I am recumbent for the most part, I have decided to let the scribes record the thanks I owe to each of those who stood alongside me, and me with them, in that holy place:

Gisele - You didn't falter, even when the demon announced he was coming for you. You kept the ritual going, and gave everything you have against a creature who has hurt you so much. We all owe you and the other ritual-speakers our lives.

Aureth - I will admit, I was skeptical of the new armor. It is flashy, and flashy means 'dead' in most situations. But you held true, held to the Gods, and spoke the words that ended in the demon's weakening and death. You have my thanks from here to the grave.

Fortunato - I think I hit you during the ritual in all the confusion. Apologies for that. You were a true and stalwart soul that stood your ground well. And you helped to teach this old knight how to express himself. Thank you. Also, you lit the bastard on fire, and I can't overstate how much that pleased me.

Aleksei - Brash, forward, excitable aleksei. I was a bit worried about your entry into our ranks, but your prayers that night, along with your blade, may have been unconventional, but they were also effective and forceful. Shattering that reflection will stand in my memory forever.

Freja - I could fill pages with all the opinions I have on the Princess, but despite being outmatched, outarmored, and left in a horrible situation against an implacable foe? She held her own and managed to summon her own spirits to assist in destroying this monster. You are a treasured soul, I hope you realize that.

I truly believe that without any one of these people, we would have failed that night, and the demon that we faced would have been left free to kill and maim and terrify more innocents of Arx and beyond. But it is dead. We won. Even if winning was painful, an horrible, and sometimes feels like no victory at all? It is over. The Pale Man is no more. And I can sleep again at last.

Relationship Note on Leola

I have never, in all my travels, met a more ludicrous, off-the-wall, insane....And completely fascinating person. She has stories that couldn't possibly be true. But I've seen her do things I would call impossible with my own eyes, so perhaps she will simply widen my own vision.

I will pray for her. I will pray for them all.
