There are differences, yes. I merely point out that an oath is an oath, and this aspect of Lady Monique and Sir Corban's divorce has been, either in whole or almost in whole (as I cannot swear to have read every white but I do read them faithfully) unmentioned. So, I mention it. That is all.

The breaking of an oath is a very serious thing, as has been stated all over the whites by those more eloquent than I. However, there seem to be some selective memories here as well. While it is true that Lady Vanora has entered into another very serious oath not very long after the breaking of the first, Prince Victus is quite correct in his mentioning that marriage is not the only serious oath that can be taken.
Sir Corban also took another very serious oath not a month after breaking his marriage vows, and while I wish him well and believe that he will serve faithfully and well in this new capacity, I cannot fail to notice that there has not been much mention of this situation which mirrors Lady Vanora’s. Censure should be applied equally, or not at all.

I have recently been learning about Shamanism in preparation for my marriage. While it began as an exploration at the behest of Blessed Vayne to allow me to gain a better understanding of my future wife’s religion has become a very intriguing exploration about a deep and rich faith.
I also cannot help but draw parallels between Shamanism and my own faith, though I have only begun to delve its mysteries. It, too, is anchored in dualities. Just as each of us have a Dark Reflection that we must distinguish in ourselves by time spent in active contemplation, so too much the mundane soul be distinguished from the free soul. Then of course, the similarities of the spirit world and the Shining Lands. It is no wonder that these two faiths have become at least somewhat integrated in some regions of Arvum.
The importance of sacrifice is intriguing as well, and while not as direct a parallel on the surface, it still bears certain similarities to aspects of the worship of Tehom. What is our Dark Reflection, if not the sacrifice of the view one may have of oneself as righteous and good, in order to not simply give into our passions, but to channel them to achieve a nobler purpose?

Since I have come to Arx, I have found myself reflecting on my career thus far, in the hope that I may continue to improve in my practice of the law. Though by now I have defended several, the first one always sticks in one’s mind. That first time, I was absolutely certain the man I was defending was guilty. I did not even entertain the idea of his innocence. However, I took it as a test of my knowledge of the law, and I was certain that I would prevail. There was no way to //prove// he was guilty.
Unsurprisingly, I lost.
It taught me a valuable lesson in both humility, and looking at every side of a case. If even I am unable to see my client as innocent, even for a moment, how can I convince anyone else of it? The letter of the law is not the only thing at work in a trial. No matter how well-reasoned an argument, if it is completely dispassionate, it is likely doomed to fail.
Unsurprisingly, I lost.
