I think Prince William Thrax said the same thing...

Relationship Note on Victus

"Rest assured, Lord Alecstazi is a dutiful man who had the best interests of his family at heart. Love did not blind to his responsibility as an honored peer."

Too soon cousin. I was not blinded by love, it was this small ball that exploded and sent sharp bits into my eyes.

But hey, I got better.

[Submitted by Personal Scribe]

Are you writing everything I'm saying Row?

Good.

Let it be known on the last day of winter 1013 AR that High Lord Victus Thrax the Prince of the Maelstrom forfeited the wedding snowball fight of Lady Brianna Halfshav and Lord Alecsatzi Halfshav by way of near fatal use of not a snowball.

Yes that is a rule, 'not a snowball' and I assure you the bard's college of Cascade Springs will confirm.

Yes there's more.

Also let it be known that out of numerous injuries over a lifetime of being a House Sword that High Lord Victus' greatsword toss is by far the quickest from which I will recover. Lady Eirene more or less patched me up on the spot.

No I'm not going to the Clement and Mazetti wedding reception with you... I need to lie down.

Cousin,

Based on your writing, I do not think crowds are your problem. Indeed, if memory serves, you have not historically required crowds for the inception of a hangover.

May I recommend a low, regular consumption of alcohol throughout the day as opposed to drinking your daily rations in a confined period of time? There is a mathematical formula that demonstrates decreased impact of an action if spread over time that I am happy to share with you, if you would like.

Knives.

Lord Wash taught Cerilla to juggle knives and she now enjoys going to the training center and throwing them at her father. It's amazing how accurate she has gotten. I fear for whoever may one day attack her and come against her temper and her knives.

I understand the feeling of having an animal friend that enjoys moving... or taking things. Mal, my raccoon, loves running off with my things, generally hiding them, sometimes he gives them to random people.

I am reliably informed otters are a creation of Petrichor, your grace. I do hope you enjoy your new companion, and I'm certain the additional liquor capacity he offers in the hip flask he carries will be a boon.

Well-written, my lord, and well-explained.

There is undoubtedly a consequence to every action; a void so much more thoroughly destroys than does an unpleasant or undesirable act.

There are those who understand this distinction and use it with great care; and so many more fools who think that it is so very easy to remove a leg, once built, and not collapse the table, spilling everything.

Such fools are worse than the most blatant of evil-doers (if such is possible), for they repeat and repeat again their deeds with ignorance and self-righteous pride, claiming that they did not know of or intend the results.

We must take a care to learn and understand - and learn again - particularly and most especially when the unexpected may arise.

Well, if nobody will say it, I suppose I shall.

Can we please find a better spokesperson for the antislavery sentiment most of us in the Compact share than our dear Prince Victus of House Thrax?

We all lauded your recent change of heart as something enlightened, but now you seem to have taken a liking for emancipation as a hobby, and let me say it is not a good look. Peers who manage to acquire steelsilk and dragonweep, for whatever reason, do not have their hands stained with the blood of slaves.

The Prince cannot claim the same.

Recognize the limitations of the political goodwill you have garnered with your very late, but commendable, act, and focus on what is coming for your domain. There is a lot of ground still to cover now that you have thankfully joined us in a slave-free society.

Though I'm a bit late to comment on this, I think Prince Victus had the right argument. Is an Embassy ideal solution? Nope. Has anyone arguing against it proposed something better? Nope.

I know he would kill a shark for me, with his bare hands. He maimed a Kraken to keep me safe while I brought our child into the compact.

But sometimes it takes his looming presence sensed between the slivers of lucidity while fevers come and go and a copy of a white brought to me to realize that the moments when he lays his hand on my shoulder, is no different than man and wife pressing a kiss to lips. Donrai didn't raise him to show no affection. He just taught him how to show it differently.

I would kill a shark for him as well.

In the matter of the spider and the fly...
The fly may see the spider as evil, but the spider is doing only what it must to survive.
In the matter of the snake and the mouse...
The mouse may see the snake as evil, but the snake is only doing what it must to survive.

In the matter of the master and slave...
The slave will surely see the master as evil, but will the master see themselves as evil? Will they continue to perpetuate this unpleasant state of things even if they are no longer doing what is necessary to survive?

Or...

Will they seek to right this wrong and find other means of survival?

I am proud of those who embrace change and focus on solutions rather than stubbornly hanging upon 'tradition' at the expense of those they have been entrusted to care for.

Lagoma smiles upon Victus and those of the isles that embrace change with such bravery. Of this I am very certain.
