I'm still trying to figure her out. She may be what she seems, but she comes across rather too sugar coated. Trying too hard to be everyone's friend and especially mine? I don't trust her and she knows that. Doesn't mean I don't like her, but how can a woman like that be as simple as she claims? Too many layers. Women are complicated enough but she's also every inch the overly refined Princess who very much doesn't like someone to tell her 'No', no matter how politely I put it.

We had a lengthy discussion about armor and fashion and somehow the topic of my sister taunting me with the idea of making me a dress with cherries embroidered on it became the catalyst of Natalia's inspiration.
I am now the proud owner of a creepy red headed doll wearing a mint green dress with cherries.
Thank you, Princess. I'll cherish the nightmares forever.

Lady Eirene's entry reminded me that I have a lot to say about the Princess Natalia.
At my worst these past months, Princess Natalia was one of the first people to reach out to me. She was quiet, sweet, not overly flowery. Her message to me was very simple:
"Do you need anything?"
As the one so often reaching out, I forget sometimes that it can happen in return. While she definitely was not the only one to metaphorically offer a hand and inquire as to the state of my being, that she did at all to a virtual stranger says a lot about her. While it's not always smart to help people you don't know, it does express a caliber of character few wish to divulge and many can't show. How do you explain the sense of compassion you can feel towards a person who's only commonality with you is a pulse? You really can't. It comes off as idealistic at best and terribly naive at worse.
I daresay if we had more reckless compassion and idealism, we'd be better as a community. Natalia's efforts to better her neighbors' lives, be they commoner or noble, has not gone unnoticed.
Many try to untangle her motivations, suss it out like there's a deeper meaning behind it, but it's as simple as this:
Princess Natalia of House Grayson is a thoughtful, considerate, unique person who thinks less of herself than most would know, and courageous in ways that are quiet and yet intensely profound.

Even before I had settled into my rooms in the Malvici estate, the Princess had a letter waiting for me saying she'd like to meet me. I dreaded this as what I had heard of her said we'd have nothing in common. Fashion to me means 'something that doesn't show bloodstains'. We had a very nice chat over tea, far shorter than I had expected.
So when news came that the Saiks were going to host a memorial for Sadoletto, I turned to her for help. I needed a black dress. Yes, a dress. I wear them on occasion. This was the right kind of occasion. The Saiks have always been good friends to my house and loyal retainers, and the least I can do for Sado is put on a fucking skirt so I don't look like I just rolled out of a triage tent and splashed my face with whiskey to clean up.
She not only was able to procure me one in a matter of days, it actually fit well and looked good. How these other people ever dress themselves with their mirror phobia is beyond me, but it looked good front and back. Right proper fucking ladylike. Sober wool and embroidered nicely and even a decent cut at the neckline.
I owe her one for this, whether she realizes it or not.

I've come to spend a decent amount of time with the Princess as of late, and I suspect that I will need to spend more time with her. Her company is not unwelcome and she can make time pass far quicker than if I was to just swing my sword around for a while for some training. I think that's a good thing? The trip to Arx was quicker than I had hoped. There is no word yet from Father, but I know I ride quicker than most messages would come and I hope every day to hear word he is well again. This is the first time I've seen the city alone; and it is loud, with never a moment's silence, for which I am grateful. The people swarm the streets or leave them empty, and I cannot walk smoothly along the byways. I have sent word to our lord Saik and await his convenience, and hope he will accept my aid in place of yours.
The Princess of Grayson wrote to me. I assumed it had been mis-delivered, and sent my apologies to her steward, but she responded; she wishes to see me! I assume some misstep of our family in the past; perhaps a knight whose horse we trained dismounted her grandfather. I will do what I might to settle this.

I've been hearing for weeks about this young woman, this Flower of House Grayson, decorating people like an artist might a canvas, and as shocking as my peers might think it, I enjoy such moving works of art.
As such, I've taken to asking her for advice on my wardrobe.
Don't look so surprised. Even warriors paint their faces before a battle, dancers touch up their costumes, and a queen adjusts her crown. When in Lyceum, as they say, do as the Lycene's do?
There's a similar quote about a wolf among sheep, but I'd hate for anyone to get the wrong impression.
The designs we came up with should be flattering and fitting, lest anyone forget who and what I am.

I have only met the Princess once, though we had exchanged missives back and forth before that. I am not certain she likes me very much. I think I am ok with this, if it turns out she does not. In any case, she seems like a wonderful actress, able to look relaxed one minute and cold the next, void of any emotion. Horatio has more interaction with her than I do, she usually deals with my assistants when she comes by the shop.

I sometimes struggle to wrap my head around Princess Natalia Grayson.
She is easily distracted - and of course, a lady of her stature has always a myriad of voices longing to have her attention.
And yet, undeniably, she is so very talented at her chosen vocation - to make others look good. Quite literally. I wonder if she practices her devotions to Jayus with needle and thread?
She certainly knows where to get marvellous clothing. The dress and boots she sent me have made my week.
I'm glad that she's chosen to call me friend.

The Grayson approached me for tea, of all things, to start of with. How she got my name or who put it in the hat for her, I do not know. What was an unexpected evening turned into a pleasant one and an oddly sparked friendship. Apparently, her list of grievances and insults incurred is to be given to me to deal with. I think some would call that the equivalent of a 'hit list', but without the gravity of death.
I think I like her because unlike most here in the South, she doesn't seem preoccupied with trying to get me in silks - or out of them for that matter. She is unapologetically herself, flawlessly. I may not be one for weaknesses, but one weakness most seem to have is putting me in the bracket of only being able to recognize martial strengths. The Princess won't be riding into battle or wielding a sword alongside me by any stretch of the imagination, but she does have her own arsenal of another sort. Not all wars are won by steel stained crimson.

It is too early to decide how I feel about Princess Natalia. She is interesting, self-assured, gracious. But I'm curious about what lies beneath the easy smiles. She seems to have made it a point to get to know most people that should be known in the city.
Perhaps fashion is not the only thing in her mind.
