Champions absolutely should not be representing House honor in the same way that a Sword does, and we do not fight the kinds of duels that end or prevent wars. Our fight is for personal honor of individuals.

Relationship Note on Arik

He never promised he could protect us from everything. He promised he would help us fight the worst enemies that are coming not just for us, but the world, and he would do it by sharing the knowledge and the art that history still remembers him for. Not just building, but teaching. Not sheltering, but helping us to stand. Fear him, sure. Question him, absolutely. But when he says he's /capable/ of giving us weapons to fight what's coming, I give you my solemn word that he is not lying.

My Nephews have handled this situation with our people with grace and wisdom. Both Arik and Mirk should be commended for their good work.

White journals are meant for all to read, and remember. Whether this road project ends in a stronger Compact or not, it is now chronicled for all to see, as it should be.

Relationship Note on Arik

I imagine House Telmar is going to ask you to stop helping them soon, Lord Halfshav, despite your alliance. While Aleksei Morgan responded to your main point rather well, let me just say that comparing my writings about what has happened to me to traitorous and criminal actions is not a particularly graceful move, either.

I wonder - do you think I don't deserve justice simply because I wasn't born of noble blood? Is your relationship with the Sentinel so poor? House Telmar is the custodian of its honor and the master of its own fate.

As for the distinction between my position as a Whisper and yours as a noble, it's simply this: my position is not my birthright. Any privilege I may have, I have earned. I do not owe anyone except very specific debts I might have made, personally. I could step down as a Whisper entirely tomorrow and it would not be a mark of dishonor against me simply for stepping down. Whisper is not my identity, Bliss is. Thus, it is entirely possible for me to speak as one and act as another.

Perhaps you haven't realized this, but the sword stopped being what it was supposed to be the second that Everard lost that duel. He shamed the legacy it was supposed to represent, he stained his family name, and then he tried to reclaim that honor through thuggery.

Their honor is represented by stolen property.

I want what I won so many years ago. I do hope you encourage House Telmar to do the right thing, as you have written you are now in support of.

You're right! If Everard Telmar hadn't made his stupid ass bet using the heirloom weapon of his house as the Sword of the Telmarch, then there wouldn't be a big todo about it now. Glad you get it!

That was sarcastic, by the way.

Relationship Note on Arik

Today while at the Spirits, a place I rarely traverse I learned somethings.

Specifically I learned how to care for a sword, from a very helpful lord.

Rule one:
You must always sleep with it under your pillow, it doesn't matter how big it is, or how big your pillow is, NO EXCUSES. Sleep with your sword under your pillow at all times.

Rule two:
You must do all things with your sword. This includes eating. It may not be the most reasonable implement, but that is how you learn to handle it. For those with a greatsword this is especially important.

Rule three:
Bathe with your sword, no exceptions!

Rule Four:
None of this will save you if you have a disagreement with the Nightingale. You might as well leave your sword at home.

Such an informative meeting!

Relationship Note on Arik

A minor point, Lord Arik, but while it is true as you say the Faith Militant often goes only where invited, we are also already everywhere. In every castle, every village, every town you will find my brothers and sisters of the Templars. On every road our brothers and sisters of the Silver Order. We do nothing as we please, you are most correct. For we do not serve ourselves or our whims. Even my whims are unimportant - even the whims of the beloved Dame Thena. We serve the Gods and their righteous causes. Your points though are very well made - the land is primarily the duty of the nobles, though we are of course always happy to help and advise where we can.

There is a fascinating and detailed structure around the Faith Militant, and of course a bright and detailed history, that I'm always happy to discuss. Perhaps once his duties allow, I might convince Sir Leif to host some kind of event in the Redrain Ward.

Relationship Note on Arik

Very wisely written my Lord. Too often do I see people in power only make a move when they feel that they will have everyone's approval. This is a disastrous way to lead as this kind of person will hesitate to make the right decisions for their people, even if it is the unpopular one. As if the opinions of people they don't know or are unlikely to ever meet actually matters more than administrating and cultivating the prosperity and well being of a people, domain, family or business should be secondary to clout.

Relationship Note on Arik

Our family has been very busy of late with preparations for many things. Yet we took time to meet with Lord Arik at his request. Something which I am quite grateful that we did. It is not the first time that he has approached us with a request for a meeting. Yet, as before, his forthright manner was quite refreshing; and his assistance has been very helpful. For this, I wished to record my acknowledgement of his efforts in my journal. He has earned the trust of House Greenmarch through his actions.

Relationship Note on Arik

Then the next question that should be asked is: During this highly public duel, which is to say, a duel witnessed by many people, why did no one (to our knowledge) gainsay the bet when it was made? Where was the outcry against it? Why was this event kept hidden?

If you bet your sister's life before a crowd of people prior to performing a rite to Gloria and lost, and no one attempted to stop you, when you then lost, what is the victor to think? What if they were a foreigner with no knowledge of our customs?

But the example you put forward obfuscates the core of this issue, just as my answer just as easily does the same. We could endlessly debate semantics, but I have no desire to do so, as I believe we are both in accord when it comes to the fact that a wrong was done, one that is intricately bound in matters all members of the Compact hold dear - honor, the validity of ones word, and trust to name a few. To see the matter set right is what everyone hopes for. That the Faith is now mediating the issue shows that both parties understand this, and the seriousness of the regretful event.

Most alcohol gains flavor as it ages! Normally the Mead Nova and I are making would take at least two years before it is even ready, but I used special Alchemy stuff to make it age much faster. We will lose out on some of the flavor, but it will be done somewhat soon!

We do. I would rather not explain the full details here, for obvious reasons, but mine involved a number of foods and drinks that easily stain, white cotton, reciting a list of rules, all while listening to a conversation and being grilled on both knowledge of what was discussed and what might happen if it gets out after.

For extra challenge, may I suggest she try doing it one-handed? Extra points for singing and dancing.

Week two of Whisper training is undoubtedly a difficult one.
