I would choose heartbreak, because there can be no reward without risk. The years I spent with first Prince Valen then Prince Fergus are by far some of my happiest memories. Even with the loss, the razor sharp pain of heartbreak when they rejoined the Wheel, I thank Limerance every day for that undeniable spark that was gifted to me twice.
My life would have been less if I had built walls around myself to protect my heart. I would not have these three beautiful children that inspire me to fight for a better future. So while yes, my heart is now lonely because I have known heartbreak of losing two husbands, I would never turn away Limerance's gift to protect myself from the what ifs.

I would rather have a lonely heart, because the dull ache of solitude is far less damaging than the firebrand, scorching devastation of heartbreak that happens when the person who you loved the most, trusted above all others betrays you with foul intentions that forces you to look at others with a new lense. Shield yourself by building a fortress around your heart. Don scars that hide in plain sight.

It has been nearly a week since I my legs were broken, and I'm starting to long for even something as monotonous as the Lord Commander's famed Tower Stair Drills. I am honored to have the a patron such as I do, though. Her Highness has ensured I have no end of reading material available to me. The rather extraordinary tales help pass the time. To think that a soldier and sailor could have such lives!

Princess Alarissa Thrax.
A few things seemed to be said. Again. Concerning the recent announcements and charitable movements that Thrax is making. I am not a man to belabor my own credit, but I won't let someone's own achievements be overshadowed because of current events. The Princess-Consort has been making a concerted effort for years to free thralls while working within the already established system that held them in bondage. I am happy to hear word out of Thrax concerning thralldom. She deserves to be remembered as more than just a footnote in all of this.

I do count myself lucky, no, fortunate and -very- humbled. The Princess Consort of Maelstrom has allowed -me- to outfit her with plenty an outfit and she expressed how she was most pleased with my work when it was completed! I do hope she will allow me the privilege again for another season.

I was pleased to speak with Her Grace, Princess Alarissa regarding her upcoming journey. We discussed many behaviors and the details that the common folk of the Compact, especially those outside the walls of Arx, care for deeply. I also helped her braid hair. It is an essential skill for any young woman setting off on her own for a time.

I have pondered more on Master Oliver's death. And the more it enrages me. IN part because threatening retribution is so powerless. In truth, if this criminal is smart he will ensure he is captured away from the Isles, away from the worst punishments and to the mainland with its kinder view on things. It will not be in my power, even as a Ducal voice, to do anything to him.
So what is in my power? What can I do that will answer Oliver's killers? Thumb my nose at them? I will hold to our traditions, yes. But is that sufficient? To remain unchanged? Many die each day, we remain unchanged. That is nothing of note.
So. On behalf of myself and House Tyde, I have sent funds to Princess Alarissa from my own silver to pay the debts of at least 100 child thralls - and I will make an offer as Voice that House Tyde will find homes and apprenticeships for those of age amongst our holdings and our vassals should they lack free parents. I hope the family will forgive me for using the Thrax charity for this rather than Master Aleksei Morgan, but what starts in the Isles should end there to my mind.
