A sketch. A bracelet lying on a soft hillock. Hillock one tuft of a beach of hillocks. The sea beyond them, a bit rough, but in that slightly frothy way that adds visual dramatic interest rather than actively threatens.

She's a rather skilled huntress, by all appearances. Of course, by appearances, so am I..so that remains to be seen if it's true. It was so very gracious of her to insist I keep the prize of the buck, despite clearly having only scored it by accident.

Clients can and often are WRONG! You can and SHOULD say no! Even your blind little trader over there tried to think that he knew better, trying to pair gold and purple and light blue with /feathers/. And I said no.

And you know what? I was right to.

You should have as well!

I met the Guildmaster not long ago, but I have high hopes for building a good rapport. So far, so good. The evening before last, we chatted a while over tea.

Jeweler.

She is also the new guildmistress and all that comes with that added stress. I am not sure she realized that part of the station. While there have been bumps, I do believe that I would call her a friend.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I swore to myself that I would never fall in love again but here I am walking down [ROAD] and I run into this noble with a bouncing gait wearing the most exquisite yet simple piece of jewelry around his neck. I stop and ask him, "Where he got such a piece." and he tells me about Joscelin's shop.

Not only is messere Arterius a skilled craftswoman blessed by Jayus, but the lady has an excellent keen wit and a wondrously delightful demeanour as well. I look forward to seeing her again - I think, based on tonight, that she may very well be exactly what I am looking for.

And I will cherish the title of "The Walking Blossom of Scandal" until the Thirteenth comes for me.

I am pleased we've been able to come to such a beneficial business arrangement. I look forward to see Gemecittan quartz used in her work; if I've given her ideas on how to deal with other noble houses, all the better.

Mistress Arterius is going to make me look fabulous. Of this I am sure. We met at her shop and she seemed to just get me. Not only is she a vibrant personality but she also keeps her shop well stocked with Fidante wines. How could I not want to give her my business! I might have to persuade Leo or Prospero (or both) into an early birthday present.

Bubbly, talented jeweler. Lady Dawn's protege. Might become the Crafting Guildmaster. She still doesn't hold her drink too well.

Don't you attempt to use big words on me, little missy. If you are going to jump my son's bones, I'm only going to consider you lucky if you end up with a full belly.

My darling girl, I hope that you know what you are doing, getting yourself involved in the scamp of a son of mine. I will be sorely disappointed if either of you hurt each other.

But, you are old enough now. You are smart enough, now. I will not police your life. I only want what is best for you. That includes anything and everything you want, even if you wake up with a hangover.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

A page intended to be tucked in a binder, left out for others to see...

A basket was left in my area by a practical in the House of Questions. Inside I found seven mewling kittens. Each kitten was roughly the same size, and I assume age, a few seconds apart at best but I have not seen a cat give birth in some time.

It caused me to reflect on what life would be like if all of our siblings were born at the same time, given that so much of our authority in the nobility comes from birth order. It seems to me it would be absolute chaos. Brother against brother, sister against sister, tragic really.

I recall watching kittens compete for their mothers milk, how they stepped upon each other, splaying their razor claws, the horrible indifference of nature. The horror of need taking precedence over sibling compassion. Some families in this great city behave little better than kittens.

Right now they are needy and relative to their productivity, rather expensive to care for in time and effort. This rather reminds me of the challenges facing the Lady of the House, and I find myself briefly sympathetic once again. The woman is a martyr.

One of the servants asked for a kitten for her child, I had a mind to demand the child's references, its prior history with any family pets. I had a mind to ask her, once received to explain any gaps in the child's care of the pets.

People ask for things from want, they often have no idea what responsibilities actually cost. We can't all be mindlessly in love can we? Someone has to watch the gates, don't they? When I give my friends moments to trifle with, the subject of distraction in some form or another always comes up. Is life so awful as to not face it each morning? But no, we must be distracted constantly, be it new clothing, or beautiful courtesans, or the temporary comfort found in pressing our flesh into each other. Oh yes, lets not forget this fantastic pre-occupation.

But I got distracted from kittens. Mouser's these, I can tell by the coats. The ones born to mouse have a natural camouflage suited for ambushing. The non-mousers are usually pretty. Well that about sums things up doesn't it, beware the giant ugly Shav banging SoAndSo; by the look of him he must be a great mouser.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

It’s like not a day has passed, despite the fact that I’ve been gone for the better part of the last few. Laughing and talking and not missing a beat in the dance that is our friendship.

I had not realized how much I missed her.

My mother and father, the ones that raised me, were very obviously not the ones that made me. I knew that fairly young. Tall, blond, blue-eyed, and fair as a bowl of cream. Also more concerned about ledger books and family reputation than I ever have. They love me, but I don’t think they’ve ever understood me.

Joscelin was the first to make me feel accepted for what I am and not for the things that I can never be. She never worries about my lack of husband or marriage prospects. Never a whisper about how I’m wasting my life on ships and in caravans. She understands. She sees *me*. I don’t know if I have any blood siblings in the world, but she’s as close to one as I suspect I will ever know.

Seems competent and skilled. A bit emotional, but I suppose that is something of an artistic trait. She was gracious enough to recommend several craftsmen for our renovations; I didn't even realize that Sir Silas was also a carpenter. In any event, her wares are clearly of a high quality. I'll certainly be back when I have need of them.

Warm, talented, generous ... and she fed me and gave me coffee. Who charms the charmer?

Really.

Mistress Arterius has agreed to make me a set of carnelian buttons in exchange for a reading. I promised her that it would be thorough. She showed me the image of a ring she made based on a dream. It's been a long time since I interpreted a dream ... my own or anyone else's; it just hasn't been the vogue, and I am nothing if not thwarted by style.

I might need to do some dreaming for this one in the future, though ...

Mistress Joscelin came highly recommended to me by her patron, Lady Dawn. She's made a couple of pieces for me now, but her latest creation is by far some of her finest work. Here's hoping that it will be well received.

Mistress Joscelin recently finished an order I placed with her. It was a gift to someone I'm very fond of. Her work is incredible, there is no doubt and Lady Dawn is very lucky to count herself as her patron. I'm very appreciative as well of the amount of detail she put in the piece, the way she was able to take my specifications and improve on them, and how much heart she puts on her work. I certainly plan to use her again for future jewelry needs.

At this fencing, sword event thing I was a little -too- loud and energetic. This may or may have not resulted in my whiskey being spilled on this poor woman. She was a good sport about it and joined me in the cheering. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her, or hiring her. Further investigation revealed she is a talented jeweler. If she doesn't mind daring more whiskey stains on her clothing, I'll have to invite her out and soon.

The second of my proteges and a woman of exceptional talent. I marvel at how she must see the world, to take what is expected, or mundane, and elevate it, to make it fantastic. Blessed by Jayus, and also with a sense of responsibility to her fellows, I know that she will make a wonderful Guildmaster of the Crafter's Guild. She has the strength of will and determined personality that's needed in such a role.
