Relationship Note on Bliss

Champion Bliss Whisper, a woman met upon the dance floor at a moonlit social gathering hosted by the Great House of Velenosa. Yes, indeed, she was both a defender of honour and refined paragon of entertainment. Talen's interest in the woman was born that night, not least because of her every talent fell in line with the high standards found in the southern provinces of the Lyceum. It remained then that she would be a fine contact to approach should Talen ever have need of a quality individual to serve the purposes of the Grand Duchess and her family.

Relationship Note on Luca

One might have considered Prince Luca a layabout, shirking his duty and avoiding the responsibilities he should otherwise embrace. Talen, however, had a certain degree of sympathy for the unfortunate plight of the man. With the Sword of Lenosia's own penchant for a challenge, there's appreciation for his highness' boredom. It remained then, that Talen would go out of his way to assist the nobleman's sister, her highness Princess Ophelia, in her antics to encourage life into her sibling.

Relationship Note on Ophelia

Flighty at best, Princess Ophelia Velenosa was nevertheless one of those members of the family that Talen kept his eye on with keen interest. Should her highness choose to dive into trouble without a look askance, the Sword certainly thought it his duty to be present so he could intervene accordingly... and if nothing would curb her whims, at least take part.

Relationship Note on Alarissa

Princess Alarissa Valardin nee Grayson, the epitome of a princess from fairy tales of old. In truth, Talen's first impressions of her highness were rather bluntly presented, the stereotype of a maiden such a bore to a man of the Lyceum provinces. In time, however, he came to the understanding that rather than push aside the opportunities to converse with those he deemed stiff collared, he should instead learn from them. To that very same end then, Talen sought to meet and greet with ones such as the princess with greater patience for their cultural differences.

Relationship Note on Nadia

Duchess Nightgold of the Redrain 'wilderness', a vision but also surprisingly witty. Like many of her kind in the north, Talen was somewhat unfamiliar with all but the reputation of this noblewoman's family. In the first few instances of meeting Nadia around Arx, Talen's appreciation for her ability to remain diplomatic without becoming stifflingly dull grew. There would no doubt be further efforts made to seek out her company in the future, too.

In a contest of speed, strength and swordplay, Lady Viviana Pravus and Talen Artiglio met in the great tournament arena of Arx. There, as Swords, they competed for the glory of their respective houses. The Grand Duchess of the Lyceum looked on and watched as her Sword fell, but the match was won with good grace from both sides and they were shone upon favourably by the church, officiated by Seraph Ailith herself.

Relationship Note on Shrike

An inquisitor and a woman of some interest, Talen had met Shrike only twice in passing a few weeks after his travels to Arx. In that time he had acknowledged that this individual was constantly on the lookout for information that would serve her cause. In exchange, Talen had sought to secure her assistance on a few Velenosan matters of his own. The arrangement seemed solid.

Relationship Note on Calista

Lady Calista Fidante, one of the many nobility of the Lyceum that was wound up in a feud. Sister to Leo Fidante, the family bore a grudge with the Malvici and for that reason Talen was most curious about the interaction between the two. Having only dined one in her presence, there was much to learn about the noblewoman.

Relationship Note on Malavaunt

A man of curious ambitions, not the kind which spans the length and breadth of the Boroughs. No, this fellow begun as a contact that Talen took to reaching out to in order to secure one of his first sets of light leather armour upon arrival in Arx. There was more than skill to this man however, for he spoke of possessing the experience to work most any material, even that of Shadowmeld, in his prime.

Relationship Note on Victus

Lord Victus, a man of large physical presence, social stature and appetite. Though he lacked exclusively in all the refinement Talen had taken to appreciating as a man of the Lyceum provinces, the bluntness of the oft-timed Thrax allies held a measure of appeal to the Sword of Lenosia. From passing interaction to an eventual business arrangement, the relationship between the two had only started to develop but a short time after Talen's arrival in Arx.

Relationship Note on Valencia

Princess Valencia was wed into the Redrain family in diplomatic marriage and that, it seems, was no small matter to Talen. To lose those so capable at playing the political games of the Lyceum was always a sad time. It nevertheless meant that every interaction held some measure of fresh intrigue, however, for the two lived in very different spheres of the world. Where before they took one another for granted at the palace, it was Talen's hope they would have more stories to tell each time they crossed paths, instead.

Relationship Note on Eira

Eira had proven herself to Talen as not only a capable sellsword, but a valued instructor. Known to have trained with her on more than one occasion, the Sword had even invited her to the manor of the Great House Velenosa to take audience with them as prospective employers. It was clear he intended to watch her progress in Arx and having the Crownsworn woman in retained service for the family appeared mutually beneficial.

Relationship Note on Viviana

As the Sword of Setarco, Viviana Pravus exemplified the traits of a true Lycene woman - beautiful, witty and most important of all, dangerous. It's perhaps because of this, then, that Talen took care not to give slight to the lady without first given due reason. While their personalities perhaps clashed, as Swords of their respective houses it was expected they would often interact.

Relationship Note on Jaenelle

Princess Jaenelle Velenosa-nee-Thrax, the granddaughter of Prince Donrai Thrax - a storied and powerful heritage, to say the least. It is no surprise then that she was wed to a Prince of the Great House Velenosa in a bid to secure ties between the age-old allies. Talen found himself interacting with her highness more so within Arx than he ever did back at the palace in Lenosia. After the loss of her late husband, Jaenelle's place within the family could have appeared tenuous. As a result, Talen made it his duty to involve her where possible. After all, he grew up knowing what it was like to be without family in a strange manor - it wouldn't do to leave her without support.

Relationship Note on Acacia

Acacia Culler, denizen of the Boroughs of Arx - a reminder that despite the challenges of his common blood, Talen could certainly have been dealt lower cards in life. Duke Niccolo Velenosa introduced the Sword to this streetwise connection in the early days of their arrival to the capital of the Compact. Why his grace took audience with the sailor in the first place was not clear to Talen, but as time wore on the incredulity of it made way for acceptance and then, finally, understanding. There was a mutual guardedness to each their natures but nothing that would prevent sound business from strengthening their acquaintance.

Relationship Note on Isolde

As the Grand Duchess of Lyceum's own beloved sister, Princess Isolde Velenosa was owed the same degree of enthusiasm to serve that any Lycene royal should have. The Mirrormask was a prominent proponent of the teachings about the Dark Reflection and while this did not phase most southerners and much less Talen, he was aware that the bulk of the Compact feared the Thirteenth. With an interest in ensuring no harm came to Tehom's priestess or the influence and reputation of the family, Talen often went out of his way to watch over Isolde.

Relationship Note on Niccolo

When Giovanni Artiglio died heroically thwarting an assassin, he left behind only one son to carry on his legacy - Talen. With no father but a wardship by the Great House of Velenosa, Duke Niccolo became the closest paternal figure to the boy. Patience, decorum, wit and strength were instilled within Talen as he was moulded into a worthwhile servant for the Lycene royalty. Talen's respect for Niccolo remained throughout his years and instilled within him the desire to make his grace proud. As Sword to the Grand Duchess of Lyceum, the Duke's daughter Esera, Talen aimed to excel.

Relationship Note on Esera

Talen's childhood was primarily spent as a ward of the Great House of Velenosa, where his loyalty to Esera flourished. After the gruesome death of Carlotta Velenosa in the events known historically as the King's Rest, Esera inherited her mother's responsibilities, most prominently among them the Grand Duchy of Lyceum. In recognition of his time spent as both servant and guard, Talen was in turn granted office as the Sword of Lenosia by his liege lady despite his common heritage. Swearing the oath to Esera meant more to Talen than just duty, it consumed his entire purpose in life and filled it with a drive to succeed in her name. Failure was not an option.

Only days after the sombre ascension of Esera Velenosa as the Grand Duchess of Lyceum and his appointment as the Sword of Lenosia, Talen travelled at the side of his liege lady to Arx. In the wake of the King's Rest there was much to be done. Carlotta Velenosa's brutal death was an act of war against Lycene royalty and it was here at the heart of the Compact where the pot stirred thickest with lies. In service of Esera, Talen would stand as a Sword to be brandished while her grace began uncovering the truth of the dark tragedy. With his common blood pumping in the young man's veins, however, the ancestral 'Mirror Blade' that Talen carried would only protect him so much from potential foes.
