I had a wardrobe built and sent to Tyde Tower, since I'll be moving there soon anyway. It felt very strange. I know I haven't lived at Keaton Hall for more than a few months, but I'll miss it. I'll miss Kael and Reigna sitting by the hearth and our late night discussions, I'll miss Aeryn, Talis and Kata, dear Aunt Margerie, my long lost brother, my wonderful cousins, I'll even miss Veronica's snoring (but only a little), the Laurents and Moores, and Marie's cooking, I'll definitely miss that. I'll miss everyone, even if I'm not far away. I'll always be grateful for all the kindness and I'll be leaving with a great trove of fond memories from my time with them.

I know you were teasing but that's given me a fantastic idea.

I can't settle on any one musical instrument to learn to play well. I like the mathematical precision of some, and the elegance of others... but sometimes I'd just like an enormous and fantastically loud drum or horn to deafen everyone with.

They'd be great for sieges, hunts, duels and parties of all descriptions too.

Skirt and Gown night was fun. Lady Lisebet did a really fine job hosting at Bold Espressions. Admittedly the game I suggested for the competition had a rough start, but it was fascinating to learn new things about the participants that otherwise wouldn't come up in polite conversation. Scars would not have been shown either, I suppose, depending on company. Thanks to everyone who bravely shared truths about themselves.

Next month's event will be co-hosted by myself and Princess Coraline. There will be some allowances made for the wearing of pants, I'm sure. If anyone has any preferences or suggestions for the occasion and happen to read my whites for some reason, please let me know.

I temporarily lost my sense of humor at Baron Norwood and Amanda Whisper's very serious party for serious people. I offer my sincerest apologies to all, especially Lord Giulio Mazetti. My objections were valid, but they were impolitely expressed and I should have graciously accepted the decision of the host.

Goodwoman Rowenova, Lady Lisebet and Lady Rosalie, were all truly deserving of the win. From the beginning to end, all of them endured and persisted with humorless courage and valor against all kinds of frivolous hilarity and ludicrousness. Had we not all cracked at Lord Giulio's joke, I imagine we'd still be in the pool now, all stone faced, prune fingered and very, very serious.

I was irritated that they'd not be properly acknowledged for their heroic fortitude thanks to a latecomer's irregular entry and subsequent win, and my legal training took over where diplomacy would have been the better option.

I still can't feel my toes.

I'm not sure how Princess Reese, Princess Coraline and Lady Lethe lasted so long in the water. I got in to my waist and it felt like my heart was going to freeze solid and stop. I don't remember much after that, but it seems I turned back and scrambled to shore.

Yay for my sense of self preservation and thank you to Duke Vercyn who dragged me out. Your beard remains magnificent.

Relationship Note on Archeron

You will always be the superior archer. I'll never take that away from you, Archeron. Perhaps, I'll just be a better axe fighter than you someday instead. I'll change my name to Axemari if that ever happens.

And while I never doubted your sincerity, the fact that you actually wore the socks (those horrible, awful socks) that I gave you, proved to me that your affection is genuine and profound. My heart swelled at the sight of you wearing them.

Relationship Note on Veronica

Veronica, please no, you'll have High Lord Edain busting down your bedroom door if you say it's a painting of an ass.

It's a cute donkey. I wanted to see if I could refine the concept before I began a series of donkeys in various idyllic landscape paintings. Like, a Frozen Donkey of Everwinter, a Brave Donkey Dodging Arrows in the Shadowood, and maybe a Salty Donkey Wading in Thrax Bay.

I'll have them all hung in your room if you like.

Relationship Note on Archeron

I didn't receive a single condolence, or congratulations by messenger, simply a warm welcome from the Duchess who I made sure to give a heartfelt thanks to. That's not to suggest I received no well wishes at all! Thank you to those lovely few who gave them in person, they were much appreciated. I'm glad you're receiving congratulatory missives though, Lord Archeron, and not say, grim counsel, dire predictions, or dread warnings delivered by shrieking crones in the dead of night. I'll count that as a win.

Although we're clearly just selflessly doing our duty by marrying, I assure you that I'm quite fond of you already and hope over these next six months of courtship to grow fonder still. I think we'll happily tolerate each other more than not, and our Houses will be made stronger by our union. So, I think I can suffer being lumbered with you. I won't say it's because you're cute in the whites or anything of the sort, because that would be embarrassing, wouldn't it? I won't do that. People occasionally read these things.

Relationship Note on Reigna

I saw something that might help for when next you're feeling upset. I'll pick it up on the way home. It's not a maul, sadly. Although I did see the most fabulous one and was tempted to buy it, despite not being able to swing it, or lift it for that matter. I guess I could drag it behind me, menacingly.

As for lying, my father taught me that everyone lies, to others and especially to themselves to varying degrees. Being young and wanting firsthand proof of his assertion, I had to test it myself but it proved more right than wrong, I have to admit. Most lies are born of frailty and sometimes kindness, where certain omissions and social niceties are concerned, while a dangerous few are truly malicious. Those you need to guard against most, but even the more innocent ones can slowly build up and cause damage, just as rust weakens iron if left unchecked for too long.

Discovering you've been lied to is never a great experience and often stings, even if the liar thought their intentions good or their reasons for doing so valid. Some people are easily forgiven and should be, while others are so dishonest about their own desires and lacking in good character that it may well be pointless to do so. Vipers can't help but bite, it's their nature.

Relationship Note on Archeron

Since leaving my father's house I've made it my struggle to be more sociable, to not provoke others so often (sorry Veronica), to be less capricious and not spend so much time immersed in my own thoughts. I can't say I've been entirely successful, but I think it's been worth the effort. For good or bad, it's our relationships with other people that determine much of our lot in life. I feel blessed by the ties I have now with family and friends, and am constantly amazed by all the fascinating people I've met in Arx.

So, I think it is worth a try, Lord Archeron. You may find people do and say the most unexpected things which can lift you up when you most need it or inspire you to do what you wouldn't have even imagined otherwise. Though they are often unreliable, full of secrets that imperil themselves and others, and do have a terrible habit of dying at inopportune times, people have many positive qualities that you'll miss if you never take the opportunity to open yourself to their discovery.

Oh, and I didn't find you scary. I'll also maintain that my small goat is preferable to a badger. You should see her run, it's majestic.

I completely forgot about my birthday on the 2nd.

I'm very sad I've missed my chance to guilt Veronica into wearing a pretty dress and having a proper tea party with me to celebrate the occasion.

Maybe next year. Lord Baby Talis Storm Keaton will be having his first birthday so it'll be easier to remember mine, since it's the following day. It's a shame he won't be old enough for tea by then, but I'm sure he'll look cute in a dress.

Relationship Note on Reigna

So exciting! Another Keaton baby I can spoil. You and Kael must be overjoyed, even if Aeryn isn't.

I imagine Aric reacted the same way when I was born, except I suppose it would have been less cute since he would have been about thirteen years old at the time. I think he's grown to tolerate me, so there's hope.

Welcome to the world, Lord Talis Storm Keaton!

I've some other very excellent books of laws, and the practice of law, and noted lawyers through history that I'd be happy to share with you, Mistress Morgan. They're riveting. Especially the one detailing the case against that dashing corsair and rogue, Captain Hardstone.

And now the scholar is looking at me strangely for winking at the journal.

I won't be entertaining any marriage proposals this week or the next.

Interested parties should instead submit their overtures, inquiries, and written proposals to Lady Margerie Keaton for review and later consideration.

I have a treatise on Economics to read through that's dense enough to crush a man's skull, so I'll be quite busy with that. Many thanks to the wonderful Duchess Ann Crovane for the ample study material and instruction.

The walled garden at Tyde Tower is quite an accomplishment. Duchess Margot Tyde and Lady Catalana Kennex should be commended for the beautiful design. Should I ever find myself in possession of a grand estate that needs an appropriately grand garden...

The party there was fun, especially the model ship races, even if the one I'd constructed did not make it much further than the starting line. It was a joy to spend time with new friends, and meet interesting people I might not otherwise.

I think I may name the sturdy Thrax vessel I was gifted, the Butterfly, to commemorate the event.
