Relationship Note on Hana

The finest weaponer and bowyer in all of Arvum, and a true master of her craft. Praise be to Jayus for her brilliance.

There are no words I could set to paper that aren't boasting, I think. It's so that our House words are that none are greater than Grayson, and in these ways is it true; I am rich in love, in friendship, in laughter stolen on the verge of grimness. I have work to do, tasks to set myself, a war to fight. In all these things, though, I simply feel all the more enriched.

Princess Lark, High Lord of Grayson, throws a hell of a dinner party.

I told Ainsley once when we were courting that I felt as though all of Grayson conspired to try to seduce me into marrying him. Between Cara's concern and caring, Laric's absurd sense of humor, Reese's warmth and generosity, Luca's sass, Lark's dignity and pure sense, Calarian's measured elegance -- so many of them reached out to make me welcome, to be my friend. Even those to whom I am not so close have never been less than courteous, even under strain.

I love you, my dear House, and I will serve you gladly, with all that I have.

Ainsley is very romantic and very ridiculous.

And I will happily pay Audric's bill. Even if he is terribly expensive! Staying alive is worth spending a little coin.

Relationship Note on Ainsley

My husband has returned to the city to be ridiculous and terrible and charming, and of course to immediately throw himself back into combat drills. I am happy to report that his homecoming did not result in the burning down of Grayson Manse despite his truly heroic efforts at lighting more candles than we have square footage.

Tiber and I have sat down and had a long conversation about what it means to have a warder. It's not the first time we've discussed it, but I thought the occasion of my husband's return a good time. Tiber being only 3, I'm not really that clear on how much he follows, but I think the more I treat him like a human who can understand, the more he'll act like one.

I'm very happy that our family is restored. And I look forward very much to the next dinner we throw together.

Ripping dresses should be done as a joint project, in my view. Something flimsy and inexpensive may be worn for the purpose. Communication is key!

My fellow ladies write of all of the implements, instruments and invocations they hurl at their husbands.

Personally, I find the power of my raised voice quite sufficient to get my point across.

This evening, I attended an absolutely charming masquerade at the Laurents' Manse in the Valardin ward this evening. Everything was splendid. I have a new taste for cherry-infused honey mead, and a new plan for a horrendous shopping spree upon the craftsmen of the city, praise be to Jayus.

Cheers!

Relationship Note on Malesh

The Marquis is good hearted in his description of me, although for myself I am not sure if I displayed derring-do or derring-dumb.

Still, Amanita, the balalaika, survived the adventure, and if I had actually made contact, I am sure this would not be the case.

Consider who we fight and make of ourselves something different. Be a candle against the dark. There will be no better time.

Raise your voice for freedom.

I will stand with you.

I am honored and humbled to accept the task that has been given me to speak as Voice for my House. I pray to Limerance for the strength to hold to all the oaths and duties I owe to serve in honor.

My most heartfelt congratulations to the Baron of Whitefrost for his engagement. He could not have done better than to secure Lady Carita Darkwater for his Baroness; a woman of style, grace, and wit, who will run his holdfast with all the verve and panache that she applies to all other areas of life. May they partner each other well, by the grace of Limerance.

Relationship Note on Audric

His lordship the Captain-General, Baron Audric de Lire, makes such a habit of watching my back I'm beginning to think I should just keep him on permanent retainer.

Except that even on the allowance of a Grayson Princess, I'm not sure I could afford it. . .

I stand here alive today to speak of it because of the furious courage of two men with whom I shared a battlefield, two men with whom I had never so much as shared a word before it happened so. One of them I knew by reputation; the other was a stranger to me entire.

Harald Grimhall, Duke of Gri'helm's Point. Lord Faelan Navegant. Defenders against the storm.

They were the blessing of Gloria incarnate upon that battlefield. If they had fallen, it would have been an end for song and story. And yet they _lived_. They lived to fight again, to defy the Abyss another day.

Bless you both.

I am humbled. I am grateful. And I yet live.

Some debts can never be repaid. This one will never be forgotten.

Between the feast last night and the hunts today, Dame Leola and Master Saedrus have really outdone themselves. It has been a wonderful respite, an opportunity to really embrace Petrichor, as well as demonstrate our skills in friendly competition. I am sure there is no greater way to honor the Lord of Dominion than to come together in the woods and put our whole hearts into efforts to feed all the hungry.

I congratulate Calaudrin Estardes especially on some very pretty shooting, and all of my fellow competitors on the stag hunt. It was a really a splendid good time, and I know the meat we hunted will be well used.

What a wonderful showpiece for the Lodge! I look forward to seeing how its works develop in the future.

I wonder, when he reaches adulthood, what my charming boy will remember of his third birthday. Playing in the snow with Thump? Eating orange and vanilla cake? Getting orange and vanilla cake literally all over the Grayson dining room?

I don't think I remember anything from when I was so small. But I will remember his third birthday, his brilliant smile, his shrieks of delight as he made the most appalling mess all over everything. In these halls, the greatest lords of our generation dine and drink and politic, and Tiber Riven throws goopy mousse cake at the walls.

When I look back now on how young and fiery Kelleth and I were, how mad and ridiculous and full of nonsense, I wonder at myself; and I look at Ainsley and I, and honestly I wonder at my absurd presumption, and a little boy exercising tyranny over a spoon, and the absurd light in my husband's silver eyes...

Good morning, March 15. Today my son has been three years old for an entire day. I am blessed with love and I embrace all the duties to which I am put with wide open arms.

Back to the city just in time to plan an orange and vanilla cake in the shape of a dog -- somehow -- for Tiber's third birthday tomorrow. Thank the gods for the Grayson kitchens, because I have no idea how else to provide "dog cake".

Sadly Ainsley will have to miss it because he is yet to return from Bastion, but I've assured him repeatedly by letter that there will be other birthdays for his ward. I mean, like as not at some point during the day there will be a meltdown anyways, and will it really bother him so much to miss a handful of cake to the face?
