It didn't seem that big of a deal, to begin with. Someone just accidentally walked into someone, but that someone was a Prodigal... Sable, to be exact. And the first person said some racial slur, already drunk. And then it all escalated from there, starting in one corner of the inn as a few start brawling, swinging fists and wrestling. But with a few thrown drinks and falling backwards into a table where there sits some menacing looking thug-like travellers? And then all hell sort of breaks lose...

Lots of people scramble out of the way as the fight crystalises. It's hard to tell at first, but it does seem like this is a Prodigal vs non-prodigal - somewhat. There's a few prodigals fending off some random people. The group of more menacing looking thugs, they're pummeling pretty much anyone and are the dangerous group here, four of them in total.

Sable immediately scowls when someone yells a slur at her. "Look, I don't want to be here any more than you actually want me to be here, but all I came for was a drink - I don't want to fight you!" Still, given the looks of her in her armor, this probably won't de-escalate the situation. And indeed, a fist comes flying toward her with prejudice.

The Grandmaster of the Knights of Solace isn't that unusual a sight in the Boroughs, and she's settled in at an out-of-the way table when hostilities break out. "Oh for fucks' sake," Thena murmurs and edges back a little, waiting to see how things shake out.

Ari is back from a trip to sea. Which brought his daughter along. That was a great thing, but it was also a stressful thing. Now to unwind. Smelling of saltwater, he pulls his weathered cape to the side, and looks for a place to sit. And that's when the mouthing off happened. Ari blinks,a nd does his best to dodge punches, and maybe even a chair, to get to the bar in a hurry.

Perronne is at a corner table, scribbling furiously into an unrolled scroll. She's so intent on what she's doing that she hardly notices when the shouting starts. It's the Unkindness - shouting isn't really that uncommon. But then someone is shoved back into her table, and the merchant yelps as the table rocks and there's suddenly a half-drunk thug sprawled across the wood. She snatches her scroll back and leaps to her feet, blinking around at the chaos. "Oh. Oh DEAR."

Just a small nip of whiskey before work, that's all Asher needs. And he's not about to do it anywhere but the Boroughs, he might get chastised. Which is why when the man walks in, he's wearing his leather armor - safety on the way to work! And when he enters the Unkindness, he looks completely blase about it. "...For fucks' sake," he says, not realizing he's repeating what his cousin has said, crossing his arms. He does spot Thena, and heads over to her, to stand and see what's going on. "Any idea what in the Abyss is going on?"

That drunkard that kind of started the whole thing has it in for Sable here - he throws a punch at her, and connects - even if it's hardly going to do much damage.

Chairs are flying or breaking now, mugs go through the air. So much alcohol abuse going on! The four more experienced brawlers are fighting some smith apprentices. The smith apprentices aren't doing too badly, they're strong after all.

1 inflicted and Sable is unharmed.

"Asher," Thena greets. "Been awhile." Yes, she is conversing casually in the midst of the ruckus. "Hell if I know, people yelling and then this." She gestures to the fracas, then lifts a hand in greeting to Perronne over in the corner there. Hi!

Sable gets smacked in the face, which she doesn't quite manage to get out of the way of. Sable's instincts take over, and her left fist darts out to deliver a jab at the man's head. Her gloved hand slams home.

Ari orders a simple ale once he dodges his way to the bar. But after he does, one of the brawlers is tossing a chair his way. He ducks, but not particularly well, splashing his beer, but managing to avoid the collateral damage. Then looking to the bartender. "Ari Corsetina. Good afternoon to you. I believe one of your patrons dropped a chair."

"Ooh! Yes! Nice shot!" Perronne calls out with enthusiasm as Sable hits back. This may end up inadvertently placing her on the pro-Prodigal side of this brawl, which she doesn't seem to realize even as she pumps her fist in the air. "Great form! Ten silver on the gal with the feathers!" Then she spots Thena, and waves cheerfully back.

The inn staff are getting involved now - a tender is jumping onto the back of a Prodigal and is banging him on the head with a large metal spoon, clinging on so well the other man can't get rid of him. Instead he is moving backwards trying to slam him against the wall - heading straight into the tables where some non-fighting inn-goiers are sitting. Time to dodge again! Or push them away!

The man fighting Sable isn't down, though he staggers back from that hit. He dives in though and tries to drive his head right into her stomach - which he fails spectacularly at.

Ari watches as his bartender joins the fight. Again, moving out of the way. With a shrug, walks around to get behind the bar himself. Pouring a refill of his drink, he sets down the coin to pay for it, and looks around to see if anyone else at the bar is still drinking.

That's.... that's an odd move, so Sable just reaches down, grabs the man's shoulders, and drives her knee up decisively into the man's gut with her lips bared in a snarl. WHUMP. And he does DOWN, like a sack of bricks. Sable glances up with a scowl which promises a similar fate to anyone else who wants to go this guy's route.

Asher chuckles a bit. "I wanted a drink, but it looks like..." Yeah, the staff are starting in. "Gods above, seriously?" He has to get out of the way of the crash, and decides that he's had about enough. "Thena, are you on duty at the moment? I'm about to play bouncer for this place and I technically don't have the authority. Do you have it?"

Perronne is about to cheer for Sable again - who doesn't love an underdog? when a brawling Prodigal and gods-only-knows who comes staggering her way. "Augh!" She tries to swerve to the left, bounces off of a dockworker who looks like she could probably just CARRY the boat to shore, and right back into the path of the fighters. Down she goes in a heap with the two of them, a tangle of limbs.

"Well she seems to be doing just fine," Thena notes of Sable, though her dark eyes take in the number of other combatants rampaging around them. She backs up a step or two as a body goes flying past. She half-shakes her head to Asher. "Solace isn't a peace-keeping force for the city, most of the time. But me personally...I wouldn't mind a break from paperwork." From the slightly wolfish grin she provides, her break could easily involve some peace-keeping. "Ahh, that's not good." She starts wading through the commotion towards Perronne.

There's a collective sort of 'ooof' seeing what Sable does to that man. Even those tougher looking guys, who have themselves knocked out a few drunk trouble makers, look at her with some awe. So, everything sort of freezes for a second or two, until someone who is too drunk to notice, goes swinging wildly at one of the tougher men and women... And things go right back to where it were, shouts, thuds, furniture breaking, things thrown, clothes ripped and bruises forming.

One of the prodigals in the group have decided to join up with Sable now, and others are working their way towards her too. Prodigals unite?

The duo of bartender + brawly type crashes into the table. The tender does lose his grip at that and stays down, the other one madly jumping up and roaring as he throws himself at the nearest target.

Thena checked dexterity + dodge at difficulty 15, rolling 67 higher.

A duo of smiths apprentices are fighting those prodigals that have decided Sable is their new hero; one goes after Sable with a chair. The other fights one of the prodigals.

Thena is mid-slog when the roaring jumping man clambers up on a nearby table and heaves himself at her. Except she's not there. Not even remotely. She watches over her shoulder, one dark eyebrow cocked, as he belly-flops onto the floor behind her. Silently she leaves him there and continues on her way, intent on digging Perronne out from under whatever refuse and people she's been trapped under.

Sable is not enthused about being the rallying point here, and she opens her mouth to protest. At least until she notices the man with the chair approaching her. The swing is slow, and Sable darts to the side. This doesn't seem to be letting up, so the huntress puts her fists up again and launches a kick at the man's midsection, which sends him staggering back. "Piss off, will you?" she demands, her low, husky voice irritated.

"Aye, just wanted to be sure. I'll handle these two morons, I suppose." Asher leaves Thena to her 'work', and sets about going for the apprentices that are attacking the Prodigals. One, he aims for the head. With an open-palmed smack from the side. The other seems to have been booted. "You two, what in the Dream is wrong with you? Get back to work! You're apprentices. You -represent- your teacher. You'll get a -second- beating after this if you don't get out now, and stop this foolishness. I'll see to it personally!"

Thankfully, neither of the fighters Perronne is in the middle of are actively targeting HER, as such, and she slithers out from between the two of them, popping up to her feet as Thena approaches. Her hair is in wild disarray, and she's grinning. "Hello, Grandmaster! Lovely day for it, isn't it?" Then she grabs a chair. Because next person who staggers towards her is going to get flailed at.

Jyri GM Roll checked strength(3) + brawl(2) at difficulty 30, rolling 12 lower.

The fight kind of sways back and forth like a wave in the inn at this point, so any one place can be perfectly safe one second and next it's got three brawlers right there. So Perronne picking up a chair like that? Wise move.

The two apprentice smiths keep getting pummelled. The one that both Sable and Asher are now pummelling, his eyes widen at what Asher says - and he suddenly just darts out of the place, leaving his friend. His friend is more angry. "Damn Shav!" he shouts and goes after Sable again, like this is near personal. He's not hitting anything though, instead just punching into a table.

The Prodigal that tried to pounce on Thena earlier has climbed to his feet, narrows his eyes at her - and runs at her like a bull, head first. He doesn't seem to have learned his lesson.

Thena checked dexterity + dodge at difficulty 15, rolling 53 higher.

Sable mutters something choice in Oathlands shav, but she just ducks out of the way and lets him punch that table. Her hands are up, but she's trying not to fight, at least this time. Sable has a quick glance around to make sure she's not getting flanked or anything, scowling.

Thena prods at one of Perronne's former squashers with the toe of her boot; hopefully he won't notice in the chaos. "Refreshing," she tells Perronne, wryly amused, and then with no obvious prompting, takes one small step to the side as her former foe comes barreling past at full tilt.

"It's good for the humors," Perronne claims cheerfully. Then scowls as the man attempts to bum rush Thena. She hefts the chair unsteadily, and swings it with - her whole body, really, spinning around to build up momentum - to smash into his head. "HEY! She's a Knight of Solace! Have some respect!"

Asher murmurs something along the lines of 'sorry about these children' to Sable, and with one apprentice gone, the other has had his warning. Asher attempts to take the man by the sides, and lift him... To toss onto a table. Whether or not it breaks the table, who knows. "Now, I know you heard me, don't make the mistake of trying to hit -me-, boy." Notably Asher is in his mid twenties. He's not exactly outside of 'boy' either.

Asher checked dexterity + brawl at difficulty 30, rolling 1 higher.

There's a sudden an inexpicable exodus from some brawlers. This might be because someone said 'Iron guard!' and that spread and even if there's no sign of the Iron Guard as of yet, some don't want to stick around and be fined, or sent to clean horse dung for two weeks. The smiths apprentice is one of those, now realising the trouble, especially since Asher is so physically reminding him of it as he gets pinned down, gives Asher a panicked look and just stops fighting. "I... won't! Just let me go before the guards are here!"

Quite a few drunk after-work people aren't so lucky though as the Inn doorway is suddenly filled up with three guards. The fight IS mostly over by now though, even if signs of it is still all around. People scramble to get out the back, too.

Ari is glad the worst is over. He glances back at the bottles he was trying to protect at the end, and starts whistling an old Setarcan sea shanty, as he pours himself one more glass, again leaves coin, then ducks back around to the proper side of the bar. Taking a knocked-over stool, he dusts it off with his cape, and takes a seat.

Sable immediately lowers her hands and tries not to look like an instigator. Nevermind that bit of blood on her knuckles. She surreptitiously wipes it off on the side of her breeches. She doesn't address the incoming guards, just tries to look nonchalant as she claims a seat at the bar. Will she get away with it?

Perronne drops the shards of the chair as soon as the shapes fill the doorway, and siiiidles away from the guy she just hit, bending down to quickly pick up her dropped scrolls and looking shocked, JUST SHOCKED, at the brawling in this fine establishment. Innocently shocked.

Asher makes sure to glare at the apprentice - with the guards at the door, Asher quickly pulls the kid up and dusts him off. Is there blood? That gets a grimace. "Who are you afraid of more, aye? Iron Guards? Or two Grayhopes in the building?" He taps his own chest, indicating himself. "There. Now, you were on your way to work, but stopped in for a bite to eat, aye? And happened to get into the middle of a fight... But weren't a -part- of it. Isn't that right?" A glance to Sable, back to the apprentice afterwards. "And never have you -ever- even -thought- about attacking a Prodigal, a Shav what has bent the knee to the -Crown-." After that, he pats the apprentice's back, and leaves him, passing over near Sable to get a drink at the bar. "We'll both have a pint, aye? I'll pay for hers."

Asher checked command + diplomacy at difficulty 15, rolling 1 higher.

"I'm former Guard!" Thena chimes in helpfully, like that's the scariest thing about her.

Sable eyes Asher for a moment, and the apprentice, but in the end she just nods to Asher. It seems she'll accept the drink. "Thanks," she tells the man. "Name's Sable." A quick glance around at the others - she's near Ari, and she nods to him, and Thena and Perrone are given curt nods, both. "Uh. Thanks."

Ari looks to Sable, as he lifts his drink to enjoy it properly. Then nodding to the woman in return. "Young men do not know how to control themselves."

Thena brushes off the front of her black leather trousers, then returns Sable's nod. "I didn't do a whole lot besides let that one fella wipe the floor with himself, but you're welcome. Dame Thena." Then she gestures to Perronne. "Mistress Perronne Amboise. She's the real terror."

As it is, the Iron Guards - Jyri included in the group - march inside and tries to make some sense of this. Whose fault is it? Jyri doing his best glower around the room, but to be fair, it's impossible to tell who started it by now. Nobody even remembers.

"Alright," he says, "anyone with a bruise, you pay five silver to the inn keeper. And everyone help tidy up." Swift justice, whether it's fair or not.

Chuckles from Asher. "Aye, Thena, but you're still a Grayhope. Isn't that scary too, in a way?" He waves it off, and then shrugs to Sable. "You're welcome. I just wanted a drink, not this trouble. It was..." He smirks at the bartender. "Unkind. Aye?" He then also snaps and points to Ari, noting that the man was correct.

"I wish someone would have taken me up on my bet," Perronne mourns to Thena, half under her breath. "I could have made a killing." At the curt nod, she waves to Sable. "Hello! Nice to meet you!" She moves awaaaaay from the Iron Guard, and towards Sable, although her voice lowers as she says in solemn, helpful tones, "Although, um...it would probably help if you got some real clothes? Did you not have any? Those are very...uh...provoking. Very shav-y. I'm sure we can find you something good to wear!"

The smith's apprentice? He's got bruises. He... pays up, putting some silver down on the counter. He does give Asher a murmured 'thanks' and looks a bit ashamed though - he avoids looking at Sable.

A few of the now near sobered up bar brawlers do the same, their bruises impossible to hide. The rest start vigorously tidying up, setting chairs back, tables turned up again, empty mugs picked up and put on the counter.

Ari watches the cleanup to make sure none of the money he put onto the bar is lifted, even if the bartenders themselves are among those who are instructed by the guards to clean and pay compensation. He drinks again. "Ari Corsetina," introducing himself to those speaking. "My life at sea was unkind. I could overcome it, or be consumed by it. I made my choice."

Sable's eyebrows go up. Way up. Then down, as her eyes narrow. "'Real clothes?'" she repeats to Perrone, her voice low. "These aren't real? They feel real enough. I live out at the Lodge. I'm not going to change into 'real' clothing just to come to a damn bar to get a drink." Wait, she's supposed to be tidying up. She reaches out and moves a mug about an inch. There.

"Terrifying," Thena agrees with Asher with a flash of a grin, then chortles quietly at Perronne's plaint. The briefest attention is paid to the Guard's orders but there's not a mark on her. And she's not tidying.

Perronne runs a hand through her hair, tidying it up a little. "Oh. Well. It just...it does look like you're about to, uh, raid a caravan or kidnap children or something. Just, uh, as a helpful note!" She clears her throat, and then adds, brightly, "But you're very good at punching people, so that was fun!" She offers the Iron Guard an innocent smile, and rights a few chairs.

Asher seems to think he's already cleaned up the attitudes of two young kids, so that's enough. He's got no bruises either, but he does put silver on the counter - for the drinks. "Mistress Amboise, though the attire may provoke, it is not her fault that they have prejudice. She is not the one who needs to change; the others need to embrace what Mangata teaches." A raised eyebrow, over at Sable. "...But aye, it does provoke in a way, because they're stupid. You say you live at the Lodge - as in, of Petrichor?"

The guard stride around, not too bothered - the Inn keeper is getting more money than what the furniture was worth, probably. One after the other, the brawlers slink out of the place - quite a few stay on though, especially those that weren't bruised. They still want to have a drink!

It takes only about five minutes and the inn looks pretty much as it did before, with a few broken chairs and a couple of tables in a heap near the hearth to be either repaired or just used as firewood...

The Iron Guard start heading out. Jyri, seeing Sable there - she is given a very respectful nod. But he says nothing, also leaving with the others.
