Well I didn't break an arm at the joust. I guess that's better then winning especially if you were one of the ones to go up against my Uncle Norwood.

The Iron Lance as Princess Tikva called him.. I like it.

It seems bitter sweet to return to Arx. My duties in Oakhaven have been long overdue; I've trained many a huntsmen in my time at home since I've been gone. Whilst I was there, there was a twinge of sadness to leave behind what was in Arx. And now that I'm in Arx, I've that same twinge of sadness for home. However, my place is at my families side, Sword to Oakhaven, and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way.

There is much good I can do here as Inquisitor and Sword to my people. Not only that, but perhaps have a life outside training and fighting.
I just hope my Auntie Margerie doesn't read this and think I've some inclination to find a man. I'm sure she'll be knocking at my door if so.

Went with Marquessa Mia Riven to deliver stone to the Hammerstrike in return for the stolen armor. The Browntooth have apparently restarted their war with the Truebold, and the original casus belli is just tragic. Apparently the Browntooth were originally the Greenfields, farmers, and the Truebold acted as defenders for the area, being less good at farming--even marrying into one another. Then the current matriarch of the Truebold had her Greenfield husband executed and it's been war ever since. What a mess, really.

Also, been exploring the Shadowood with Amari and various Clements and Keatons and friends--there's a lot going on there, but much of it is marsh. The Mudfoot clan in the Greenmire swamp at least were willing to be friendly, even if I very much lost my composure at the hats they wear. Amari made me one of my own as a reminder of good manners.

The jungles of the Saffron Chain are kind of awful, but wokring with the Marquis Giorgio and others we managed to save several captives taken by Abandoned heretics during the war. Fortunately most were still alive, as we interrupted their sacrificial rite.

Met with Lady Medeia Eswynd today, it was good seeing her again. As well, met Lady Amelie Wyvernheart for the first time--she's a very determined character. I can see some similarities in our pasts, as we both lost family to murder.

Relationship Note on Rowenova

The people you can trust are the people who will catch your hound's leash and hold him for you while you dance at a party. It's a little embarrassing how much better Rowenova's hound behaves than mine, but on the other hand, he's a lot older, too.

Wedding receptions can be as boring as the day is long, but my cousin and his new wife did everybody proud. Good food, good company, great dancing, and that's really all you can ask for. Especially the dancing.

I'm happy for them both, too.

Always good to see a duel fought by well-honed warriors. I saw some interesting tricks of footwork I'll have to keep in mind for later.

Relationship Note on Kastelon

Kastelon's always been a little after my own heart. If I didn't have enough brothers already, he would have fitted in great with the family. It'll be good to have him in the city for a while.

Good as our work in Oakhaven was, I've come back to Arx at just the right time. The air is tenser by the day. The Keaton people are as secure as they can be for the time being, and I would no sooner stay behind without the family I serve than I would cut off my hand.

My sword hand. I might be able to do without the other one if I needed to.

Relationship Note on Padraig

Good to have you in the city with me, Sir Paddy.

I shall enjoy showing you around doubly since it means finally exploring more thoroughly myself.

Relationship Note on Apollo

Apollo asked some good, deep questions this evening that have made me pause to take an uncomfortable look into myself and my priorities. I would really rather have them answered sooner than later.

Relationship Note on Mabelle

What do you mean 'not a scholarly duty'? How can delivering my RSVP to Mabelle not be 'scholarly'? You have quill, you have parchment, you are a scholar writing down everything I say and I need her to know I cannot attend her- what?

Well, yes. Fionnuala is out there... somewhere. Perhaps at a tavern, perhaps with a friend, I hardly keep tabs on her the few times she fails to be underfo- what?

Oh, FINE. You hardly had anything to do anyway, a visit to Mabelle might have been the high point of your day but FINE.

A girl or a bird to send it.

Not a scholar.

Yes, yes, I get it now stop using that tone before I decide you need to learn how better to use a sword and that I am just the woman to teach you.

Relationship Note on Reigna

The whole of that village was changed by the steel in your tone and eyes when you called out the corruption of their 'elder' to lay it bare in front of their duped faces, then saw to it that real justice was paid swift and hard. The menfolk may have chased down that murderer and hauled him forth with his pants soiled as much as his soul, no doubt, but the people of that hamlet will remember the sympathetic, empathetic healer turned steely-voiced champion.

It was, as usual, a matter of pride and pleasure to ride at your side as your Sword.

Amari and I will likely be attending their first festival, when they have it, as... guests of honor, of a sort. Perhaps you will deign join us, should it happen.

Relationship Note on Amari

It's always a treat when one can witness your lawyerly chops getting tangled up with your willful, 'slap the justice into them' Keaton...ness. That would-be-executioner turned village elder is no doubt arranging, at this very moment, an annual festival which culminates with burning you in effigy. Perhaps we should join next year, volunteer our services as chairmen of the board or grand parade marshals or somesuch.

It is good... humbling... reassuring... to be reminded that no matter how dark the night or long the road, having hearth and family at the end of either is a privilege not to be underestimated or squandered. Those gifted such privilege owe a debt of honor of such magnitude that one could live a thousand years and never repay it.

Relationship Note on Amari

Cousin, you have always been the sister I never had. We fight, we annoy each other, yet after all these years we still share a room. I will miss you when you leave for Tyde Hall, even if you spread lies about my snoring... because I do not snore.
