Written after the pilgrimage to the Heart of the Necropolis and after obtaining a black shield with an inverted white skull. He is preparing for the final battle, but arrives in the Archives to pen one more reflection.

Life is a gift, cherished and sought after. But there are times when the continuation of one’s own story must be weighted against the greater good. For me, that time has most likely come. IN the balance of all things, my single tale pales in comparison to the potential of countless others. Khanne, my love, my heart, our story has been one of profound connection and shared dreams. You have been my anchor in the storm, my guiding star in the darkest of nights. Our love will endure beyond the confines of this mortal coil.

By stepping into the void, I become a guardian of the future, a silent sentinel ensuring the continuation of others’ narratives. My sacrifice is not one of defeat, but of hope. In this act, I give life to the possibility of a tomorrow I might never see, to the stories that will flourish in my absence. Khanne, my heart, know that this is not an end, but a beginning. A new chapter for you, for those we love, for those we event hate, and for the world we have fought to protect.

To live is a blessing, but to give one’s life for the sake of others without second-guessing is an honour of the highest order. I go now to my fate, not with regret, but with the knowledge that in my passing, I pave the way for the tales of many. Khanne, my heart, carry our story on and let it be a light in the dark days to come. To the last, I love you, and through you, our story will endure.

In the thick of battle, where each decision can mean life or death, the old saying rings true: 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend.' As a knight I've come to understand the hard choices that war demands. This truth forces us to reckon with the duality within us—the clash between our ideals and the brutal realities of survival.

This unexpected alliance, turning foes into allies, is a stark reminder of the complexity of war. It's a testament to our ability to adapt, to set aside past grievances for a greater cause. But it also begs the question which isn't at all going to be popular or pleasant for people to think about: in seeking aid from former (and current) adversaries, are we compromising our honour? Are we unknowingly looking to Gloria for victory rather than upholding our unyielding honour?

These alliances, forged in the fires of war, confront us with the true nature of our existence. They remind us that while victory is paramount, the motives behind our choices are what truly define us. Our decisions, whether driven by necessity or honour, expose the tension between practicality and integrity.

As we march through these challenging times, we must remain true to the code you follow. We must balance our thirst for victory with a commitment to our principles. In standing alongside those we once fought, let's not forget who we are, but instead use these alliances to showcase our resolve, bravery, and unwavering honour. Or perhaps, it is time for us to change and grow which means these old enemies are now going to be new long-term allies.

May our actions in battle reflect the indomitable spirit of a true knight, leaving a legacy of honour that endures beyond the battlefield.

And think about what we will leave the future peoples after the battle.

Relationship Note on Khanne

Some fight for many things. I fight for a world that's worth protecting. You are that world, Khanne.

Be everything you can be, do all you can. While you're heading to the battle, remember those you grew up with. Remember those you've lost along the way. Remember that those who are behind you are there needing your protection. Those who are alongside you fight against a thing that would burn the whole world just to rule over the ashes. And those in front of you? They are your enemy, meet them with unyielding honour.

To the Last, my love.

If you are ever unsure who you should fight, think on this: the one who desires to burn down their own nation or world to rule over the ashes is the enemy of all. Stop them with everything you have.

To the Last.

Relationship Note on Khanne

Write about those you know of, of yourself. Commit to Vellichor's memory not just that you go to stand against the countless shards of darkness, of a mighty maw of the Devourer who wishes to engulf Arvum. Write about the little things which colour the names of who will one day become legends so people in the future know the lives that were lived and sacrificed for the many lives that will come.

For example, Duchess Khanne absolutely adores hairpins. She has probably over a hundred pairs and is always overjoyed and happy when a new pair is gifted to her.

I like to eat the Blueclaw Vine, it has a hot and peppery flavour and a velvet texture. It also has a faint glow of light blue in the summer nights, and if you were in Caldera you could catch a very rare moment when the nightbirds come to drink the nectar of those flowers and their feathers glow with a million different colours like little rainbows or auroras at night.

Relationship Note on Khanne

My Khanne,

In the dwindling sands of our hourglass, time's a luxury we can't afford anymore. The relentless march of days is bringing us closer to a precipice, beyond which lies a void, a day devoid of tomorrow's promise. Thirty days from now, Arx will stand on the edge of oblivion, facing a devouring darkness, an insatiable maelstrom hungry for the essence of our being. This abominable force, blind to distinction or rank, whether you're a Godsworn, a valiant Knight, a mighty King or a humble Cobbler, sees us all as mere specks to be consumed in its ravenous gluttonous fury. It threatens not just the great city of Arx but the Shining Lands beyond and aims to shatter the chains binding it to Arvum, to unleash its catastrophic hunger upon the world in a final, apocalyptic reckoning.

In this fleeting existence, as we walk our divergent paths, laden with triumphs and failings, we must live with purpose and integrity. Make sure the trail you blaze has a lasting mark with your essence, your resolve unshaken, your honour unblemished, and your determination to do what's right unwavering. Leave behind a legacy that echoes your final, valiant stand long after you've left this realm.

In this hour of dire need, let heroes emerge from despair's depths. Harness this moment; let it be the crucible that forges unity from discord, strength from weakness, and resilience from despair. Extend your hand to those you once opposed, for the entity seeking our annihilation is indifferent to our squabbles; in its eyes, we're but fleeting morsels in its path of destruction. Insects to squash.

Let's come together as one indomitable force. Bolster each other, fortify our resolve, and engage in this ultimate battle for the existence of all.

To the Last. Stand unyielding, united in the face of darkness. To the Last. Let our final cry be a testament to our courage and tenacity. To the Last.

If you've ever been lax at recording your life and thoughts in journals and the power of confession, now is a good time to start recording everything. You might die, this is true, but your words you write can live on for others to find. There is power in words, in memory. It shapes how people think and in shaping thoughts you have the ability to shape the Dream itself.

If you choose not to scribe your journal, you leave vast amounts of your life to be consumed by forgetfulness, lost forever to oblivion. That seems a poor trade when you're given such an opportunity to live a life how you want.

The last thing I did at Vaevici Compound was to visit the observatory and look up. The night sky grows darker, stars fleeing and being blotted out with an ever increasing void. That one constellation seems brighter. But those are things to think about for another night, not now.

The chest was small with my personal effects, and the other cases and chests filled with books and other articles. And slowly the next day, the wagon made way through the city of Arx to Halfshav Hall where I was greeted by my new family. Things are quite different than my old home, but I suppose that is the nature of moving isn't it. If we wanted what we had, why even step foot out of our front door?

I don't know what the future holds except that there will be far more struggles, challenges, hurts, tests, sorrows. And in between all of those negatives, there will also be moments where people will shine as they rise to the occasion whether that be to help others, fight common threats and perform any one of those tiny miracles that happen in daily life which might not be costly to the one performing but can be a life-changer to the receiver. That's life, isn't it.

I unpacked my simple belongings and began receiving messages of well-wishing and gifts from friends and allies. They all marked the change that was to happen, but that change wouldn't be on a path being walked alone. Even a rabbit appeared, a special one that apparently calls itself Joy. I hope Joy stays in this world.

With this new life as Titus Halfshav, the world changes and yet it does not. I might be a Loreweaver to collect and share stories so that no story is lost, I might be a Warmonger doing what that entails. I'm hated and despised, I'm loved and cherished. But my world grows larger, my view is bigger. No longer to a great isle in the farthest southern part of the Compact trying to keep the great Blood Beast slumbering in dreams so vivid and grand that it will not be woken, and I look to Whitehold guiding me for the future where bridges are built to the farthest ideas and places to connect us rather than divide.

And so to the unknowable future I say to any listening or reading:

Protect those who follow, assist those alongside, and be steadfast against any who oppose you.

To The Last.

Reflecting upon the talks of recently broken writs, it strikes me how history echoes in our current times. The saying, "the more things change, the more they stay the same," finds relevance here. The breaking of writs isn't a novel occurrence but a recurring theme through our history. From Dragons to Rex'alfar to Sylv'alfar and Nox'alfar and Humans and others, each breaking and binding over and over again. Just another swing on the pendulum from side to side. Even when Pyrite the Redeemed who used the novel approach that if one forgets what they are bound to, then they are free of it. But that created even more problems, didn't it.

Our past is important, traditions are important. They remind us of the cyclical nature of life we live in. The difference I suppose from the past and the now is the ink hasn't yet dried today.

It'll be interesting to see what strategies and ideas pop up to solve the current situation.

Many concerning issues, each capable of spilling out a terrible ending to everything:
- The Marin’alfar have been consumed.
- The Undying Empire dies.
- Cardia’s heart breaks.
- The Dune Kingdoms bleed.
- The Compact hangs in a precarious balance, ready to tip. When the Forgetful begin to remember, will the ideals they cling to feed and keep them?
- Choices removed and writs broken. Masters killed and others rise up to become what they replace.
- Magic revealed and yet people begin to lose who they are.
- The old being thrown out while clinging to the new. But there's no future without a past, there's no now without the journey of choices that had us arrive to today.
- Birds of a feather stick together, and the crows are going north. And in the night, the maw of darkness is growing as it consumes many brilliant points of light.
- A new constellation shining prominently, a giant sword upwards through a crown.

Change, just not in the way you thought it would be. Because how could you? Just like always.

And then what?

Written By Titus

Dec. 19, 2023, 1:32 p.m.(5/24/1021 AR)

It's a spring morning at the encampment near Harrow Hall and the Compact forces are stirring awake as morning activities begin. The red-tinged moon is bright, painting everything with a subtle silvery hue still.

As I reflect upon the question of unity - what truly binds us together in this tumultuous world - I'm drawn not to the common answers of armies, gold, or even divine will. Nor do I find solace in the raw, visceral pull of vengeance. In my contemplations I find a deeper, more profound connection in the power of stories.

It's in stories that we find the essence of humanity, a force far more potent than any army or treasure. Stories transcend the ephemeral nature of physical entities; they are the soul's speech, the heart's song. In stories, we find our fears, our hopes, our dreams, and our truths. They're the mirrors reflecting our collective experiences, our struggles, and our victories.

In the sharing of tales, whether by the flickering campfire or in the hushed tones of a war tent, we see ourselves in each other. We realize that our joys and sorrows are not ours alone but part of a grand tapestry woven through time. In stories, the stoic and the sentimental, the warrior and the scholar, find common ground. They are the threads that bind us, not just as members of House Vaevici or citizens of the great Compact, but as part of the human condition.

As I pen these thoughts, I'm reminded that our legacy is not solely written in the annals of history, but in the stories we leave behind - tales that will be told and retold, long after our physical forms have returned to dust. In this way, we achieve a kind of immortality, a lasting union beyond the constraints of our mortal existence.

We should then continue to share our stories, for in them we find our unity, our strength, and our enduring spirit.

Another week in Arx has passed and so another journal is committed.

There have been numerous proclamations and announcements, some of which puzzle me. There is a focus on distributing sweets and treats to the poor, which I find conflicting. Charity should be a humble act, but perhaps this is a way to shed light on the plight of the less fortunate and inspire others to help. It seems that social battles in Arx are fought differently, where Gild seeks to transform stored riches into blessings for others. In Sangris, we provide all with what they need to fulfill their purpose, without a desire for material opulence. Some may view this as all being equally poor, but we value contentment over excess. Knowing when is enough is important, as the more you take means the less someone else will have.

Lord Jasper of House Steelhart in the Oathlands is uniting with House Velenosa through his betrothal to Princess Ophelia. This union is not only beneficial for the involved houses and realms but also for the entire Compact. It forges familial bonds that encourage us to work through our differences rather than focusing on our disagreements. It allows the Compact to remain united against external threats without being torn apart by internal conflicts. To them, I'll borrow the motto from the Malespero: From tragedy, strength.

A figure named Watcher made a proclamation that resonated with me. Their words didn't bring peace but rather a sense that I feel when there's a fellow Vaevici beside me in battle, which is good. They spoke of hope, a flame that we must keep burning.

The High Inquisitor also delivered a lengthy announcement about reporting oddities. I can't help but feel that his role is never-ending. The inquisitors I've encountered are good people with challenging responsibilities.

In the midst of all this, I've been immersed in developing and reviewing strategies for the upcoming battles against the Traitor. It's struck me how similar many here are to him, willing to give their all when their own self, their family's, or their house's existence is threatened. It's a recurring lesson that we often prioritize the ends over the means, and sometimes we must accept that in this life, we won't always win or attain our desires, even when they are selfless. To look elsewhere than the ideals of the gods may offer a victory, but the cost will be paid.

It's a tough lesson, one I'm not sure I've fully grasped, or that I want to.

There is numerous literature devoted to the topic of the Compact and its enemies such as the Horned God, the Gyre, Tolamar Brand and more. Often the stories create monstrous depictions in which all humanity is stripped from the armies or leaders of our enemies when that is not the case.

Remember, seeing your enemies as mere monsters is a dangerous oversimplification. This mindset often paves the way to unchecked violence and destruction. It's crucial to acknowledge that they, like us, possess a mix of virtues and flaws. Every severe action taken against them is likely to provoke a comparable reaction and the reverse is true when they take severe action against the Compact which drives us to react. Strive for understanding and measured responses to avoid a cycle of endless unchecked hostility with no end in sight.

While I understand it's paramount to minimize violence and seek peaceful resolutions, there are limits to what diplomacy and restrained tactics can achieve. In situations where standing firm for our beliefs and values becomes inevitable, it is essential to engage with honour and integrity. This approach ensures that we rise above our primal instincts to fear and attack the unfamiliar. By maintaining honourable conduct in conflict, we uphold our principles and avoid descending into a mindset that blindly opposes anything different from us. It's about striking a balance - defending our ideals while respecting the humanity of all involved.

The Code and the god of war demands this.

Relationship Note on Petraea

The Vaevici do not mourn the dead, we instead reflect and weigh their deeds on whether or not it has helped those who live on to be stronger, and celebrate those who have done so. With solemn reverence on behalf of the Vaevici, I'm here to honour the legacy of Tribune Petraea Livy of Cardia and those she represented from far away lands, whose spirit blazed with a fervor that illuminated the paths of those fortunate to cross it. House Vaevici reaffirm our commitments with the Compact and its allies, not in the shadow of grief, but in the light of gratitude for the inferno of courage she has bequeathed us. Tribune Petraea was not just a keeper of flames or secrets; she was a catalyst of an enduring conflagration, one that sparked purpose and valor in the hearts of her compatriots as well as those she helped unseen from afar.

My interactions with Petraea, though infrequent, were profound. Conversations that stoked the embers of wisdom and kinship, and ignited a beacon of knowledge that will guide a lost people through further darker times. Her legacy, deeply rooted in the lineage she comes from, resonates with the essence of her being, a gift that she wielded with benevolence and might. A lesson we all can learn and try to emulate in the near future. I will miss her words and voice and looking at the stars.

We Vaevici acknowledge not the dimming of a flame, but the inception of a legacy as resilient and as pervasive as fire itself. Her sacrifice, emblematic of the eternal dance of flames, has kindled a resilience that will carry on beyond the ephemeral. A spark that has now been lit in many others who live on from her death and they too will carry that fire elsewhere and burn just as brightly. With each act of bravery, every moment of altruistic choice we make, Petraea's essence is sustained and perpetuated. She lives on through us.

In this moment of both sorrow and celebration, we embrace the spirit of Petraea Livy, a spirit that does not waver, a flame that does not falter even if it has faded to embers. May the embers of her spirit rise to the stars to help guide future peoples who might be wandering lost with her legacy to be found again.

Historically, we have declared, "As Arx Endures, We Shall Remember." Yet today, in the spirit of endings and beginnings, and in the indomitable presence of the fire that Petraea Livy has left for a world worth saving no matter if they are kin or stranger, I feel it is better to say "To The Last."
