We have done what must be done. While we celebrate, let us remember the sacrifices made this day. The price was higher than many will know. And there is more work to be done.

Today, we go to fight the Horned God. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Take heart, children of the Compact. We have allies. Some are seen, some unseen. We will not stand alone.

I attended my first Sip'n'Spar tonight. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was made to feel welcome right away.

I decided to compete in the archery, and it was an honor to find myself matched against Lady Titania Kennex. I would hunt with her anytime.

Valencia was very kind, and a wonderful hostess. Prince Patrizio was also very welcoming, and was a very good sport after being trounced thoroughly by Mirari Corsetina. I get the sense he is a bit of a regular there.

Princess Renata Pravus and Prince Theo Velenosa... well, let us just say I shall never look at wine in quite the same way. It was nice to meet them, too though.

I also met the Baroness Lucita Saik. She apparently wrote a song in honor of Petrichor that I would dearly love to hear her sing one day.

All in all, it was nice.

I also was gifted a tannery by my sister. I am looking forward to having a little more space to spread out, closer to the market. Tomorrow, I will spend some time moving in and getting it all set up.

Relationship Note on Raven

I'm not very good at insulting people. But I will tell you the stark truth about what I think, if given the opportunity. At least our birds seem to get along.

A few thoughts:

I joined the Society of Explorers, and I am already set to head out on my first mission with several other Explorers. I have my hands stuffed deep into the pie now. We'll see if they come out with any useful treasures. I suspect, however, that it's going to be messy.

I admit I am curious about the call for kites from the Nox'alfar Ambassador. What's that about? Regardless, I've found myself preoccupied with making kites. I also put my first leather set up in the shop. We'll see if it sells. It's not very protective, but I think it's pretty. Rarely do we get customers at the Harrowed Grounds. My sister's jewelry and glasswork is lovely too.

I recently attended a meeting of members of the Faith. While I am rather skittish in the city in general, I felt at home among my fellow disciples and the priesthood. I feel that we are all in capable hands.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Baroness Amari Redire. A lovely and kind woman. I think we have many things in common. I hope to see more of her, and share in our love of nature.

It was recently commented to me that my name has a strong semblance to that of a certain First Choice. Please do not make any comparisons. There is no comparison. I am trying to maintain a humble attitude, and bring honor to a name I was given. I am a disciple of Petrichor, who happens to be named Skaldia. I honor the First Choice as well as any other citizen. I was told I must be proud of my family's legacy, being descended from the first of the unchained. Yet, the story is nothing to be proud of.

It's good to be with family in times of trouble. And these are very troubled times.

Today, I set up shop in the Harrowed Grounds, opening my little section. I have decided to name my business Libera Leathers, in honor of my hawk companion. Even if she's a troublemaker, I do love her so.

Tomorrow is another long day of meetings and briefings. There is much to catch up on since I've been away.

I forgot how noisy the city can be. Yet, there are surprising pockets of peace within the walls.

I have returned to Arx after a short time away. I will not go into such boring details. Suffice it to say, I couldn't stay away when my family needs me.

Upon my return, I immediately joined the Society of Explorers, and I think that was a wise choice all things considered. I hope to resume my duties as a Disciple of Petrichor as well. It will be so very good to see my family again, though I suspect the birds and the trees and the unfurling of spring's glory will soon be calling my name. It is hard to enjoy such things as much as I normally do, however, when worrisome things are afoot.

My attention keeps being caught by roots lately. Thick roots anchoring ancient trees to the ground. Spindly roots tenaciously clinging to life along the roadside. Knotted roots that might trip a boot or sturdy roots dangling low to provide a helpful handhold.

At the docks there are ships with towering masts; trees without roots. What might it be like to be so rootless, cast to the whims of waves and wind? I spread the wings of my imagination and try to see-- but I am too entangled by my own roots to soar.

Well, I did it. I worked up my nerve and went to another gathering. There were so many people. But it was a delightful bonfire and I felt as though I was deep in the woods, which was balm for the mind. It was certainly outside my comfort zone, but I am glad I went. And I met several friendly types as well.

I am thinking of getting a dog, to help me on the hunt and protect me from more dangerous beasts. It would need to be a creature who could thrive in both the forests and the city -- not just the city, but the crowded alleys of the Lowers. I would not want to condemn an animal to spending half its life in an environment it is not suited for.

Two big events in as many days; I feel as though I might be a social butterfly after all. No, as much as I've enjoyed them (and I have!), I still must admit that I prefer the solitude of the forest over the bustle of the city. Still, it is good to get out and meet more people. And it may end up leading to more opportunities soon.

The moon is bright tonight. There is no need for a lantern. Again I am reminded of how the Gods provide for us, if we simply take the time to recognize Their gifts.
