Had the chance to visit the Archives of Vellichor. I have to remember to not fall asleep in the stacks...there's so many journals to review there.

Relationship Note on Cosimo

I found a curious shop that sells scribing supplies and keeps a small collection of reading material. That should keep me supplied well while here in Arx. What I thought would be a quaint, quiet place to put my thoughts to paper was busier than anticipated. During my stay, I encountered Lord Cosimo Tessere that suggested some ideas for a new crossbow. I will have to work out some designs to get the mechanical aspects correct. Firing multiple bolts will be a worthy challenge.

Why are we feeding wolves, Archlector Giada? After a long moment of consideration (in this instance, I am hoping this is just an analogy) I think the wolf that is being fed is the wolf that has been tamed, and is now defending its resource - its ally. Unless, that wolf isn't really a wolf. It might be something worse. If so, then the wolf attacking the home is an actual wolf - behaving as wolves ought. That would be the one winning, I posit.

With the quill caught in my hair, I can now call the mess of it a bird's nest.

Potatoes make for a poor substitute for a crossbow bolt.

It's been difficult.

The concept drawing is golden, of course it is, but as always it's the testing - and implementation process that's the best. Worst. The borst, which is a little of each. I figured out the cranking mechanism - finally! There wasn't any strain on the bow once the bolt is locked into place - but! But the loam still doesn't have the proper consistency to maintain the molded shape of the bolt. Needs a spine - clay? Dung? Something that will hold shape when dry, but can provide fertilizer once they've been watered.

The vegetable seeds (green peas for the sake of this experiment) at the tip of the bolt work just as well as I thought they would, but I would also like to - (requires MORE TIME to plan) - compose tips loaded with wildflower seeds that will release in a spray once the bolt is loosened in freshly tilled soil. Hopefully I will have a full set of seeded bolts to test by the time it's time to start attending the blessings of the fields for spring planting.

Imagine how much easier it could be.

You cannot spell discovery without cover-y. Take cover. This is an excellent reminder to always be safe while working on the trickery of a cranking mechanism of a crossbow. Such little space between just enough - and too much!

We must look at where we are and who we are, now, in this moment. The 'what-if' is a dangerous distraction. We must replace it with what-can and what-will.
